There are too many similarities to the Polo - door handles, mirrors, front door shape, headlights etc, which begs the question - is this a Vento?

No way is that a Vento. The Car spied is way larger and not anywhere near the size of a Vento, besides a Vento would never be sold in the USA. Boot added to small hatchback= VFM Sedan is unique to India and some emerging markets.

clean typical VW design, but looks pretty outdated even before release, maybe they wanted to play it safe.
The rear looks more like an Audi than like a VW. I don't find this impressive.
If this is the next gen Jetta, I would say looks might be deceptive. But in this case do still waters run deep?
Personally, from the appearances perspective alone, I'd prefer the current gen available in India. I would label the latter as 'quiet'.

NEW JETTA?
How can they call such a 80ish design new?
Rightly put by longhorn, it looks more like Audi (more from the rear).
Why cant the designers be more creative and make it a bit curvy.
Look at the Hyundai, their fluidic design is just awesome.
However, looking at the interiors, they look pretty impressive. The two seater concept for the rear passengers is neat
Looks like the old old corolla design with really low front lip. Scirocco'ish...Boring is one word that describes current VW design direction when it comes to form. We can really debate with words like elegant, understated, conservative, safe etc till the cows come home but wonder what happened to handsome cars.
Here is what the 2002 Jetta looked like. I used to own one while in US. Also added a modded car just to show how handsome it looked. The current Jetta doesn't evoke similar emotions though it may be well ahead technically. Speak as a one time owner whos comparing the old & the new.
I dont know why buy the front looks a lot like the current gen Honda Accord. Overall, this car is really boring to look at ! I just saw the new VW Beetle commercial on tv and it said 'Curves are Back'. What i want to know is that why couldnt VW save some curves for the Jetta ???:Shockked: Looks like they used all the curves on the Beetle
New Jetta puts the boot in | Auto Express News | News | Auto Express
VOLKSWAGEN has unveiled an all-new version of its Jetta saloon – but this time it’s not based on the bigger-selling Golf hatchback.
By making the four-door an independent model, designers have been able to work from scratch. The result is a stylish shape that is better proportioned than the previous Jetta’s, thanks to a 90mm increase in length.
At the front, bold horizontal lines give the four-door a mature face, while the shoulder line running from front to rear is lifted from the stylish NCC hybrid concept coupé, unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show in January.
Inside, the longer wheelbase has allowed for a more spacious cabin, with extra rear legroom. There’s also a new engine line-up. It kicks off with a 104bhp 1.2 TSI petrol unit, followed by a 121bhp 1.4 TSI and a range-topping 200bhp 2.0-litre TSI. Diesel options comprise a 104bhp 1.6 TDI and a 138bhp 2.0-litre TDI.
All bar the 1.2 can be specified with the twin-clutch DSG gearbox. BlueMotion versions of the 1.2 and 1.6 will include a stop-start system and brake regeneration. The petrol car promises 44mpg economy and 124g/km of CO2; the diesel 69mpg and 109g/km.
The front and the back styling reminds me a lot about the Polo. But arent they a segment apart?
Or am I missing something here.
A VW Polo front end and Audi A4 rear. Hmmm.. Interesting. I was hoping the front end would be nicked of the new Golf. This looks more like the Polo sedan rather than a Jetta.
The new Jetta looks very good! But why has it been designed on the lines of Polo? If the Jetta looks like this, then how would the Vento look like!
This clearly indicates that VW is putting a lot of emphasis on the Jetta lately, from the fact that it now shuns the 'Golf with a boot' tag. Maybe VW's gearing up the Jetta to pivot sales in the North American and European markets. Waiting for this one to make it to India.Should be a comprehensive performer!
