2012 VW Jetta Test Mule First Spy Photos - worldcarfans

Spied for the first time in mule form, here are photos of the next generation Volkswagen Jetta VI cold weather testing in Lapland. Wearing the body of a Jetta V model, it appears to have a longer wheelbase than normal, the front bumper fit is slightly off and the front wheel arches seem wider than normal too.

Known in most markets as the Jetta it also goes by the names Bora, Sagitar, Vento and Atlantic. The first generation Jetta in 1980 was targeted to the American market as a Golf with a trunk. Since then the Jetta has become the best-selling European car in North America unlike its more internationally famous Golf sibling.

Lately though, starting with Jetta V, VW has sought to distance the car more from the Golf's younger, sportier, compact image and closer to an Audi A4 by placing it a little more upscale as a family semi-executive sedan. The current model Jetta V was launched in Europe in 2005 and our spied successor is expected to launch in 2012.
I believe that the car will come out by end of 2009 considering the falling sales and tough competition.

Images.

Am I seeing things? Or rather, what am I missing? This looks no different from the current crop of Jetta/ Rabbit/ Golf.
If its the underpinnings that has changed, the pics are not going to show it. And if its the styling that will change, I guess it would gravitate towards the look the Golf Mk 6 has. ( Though Car & Driver does say that they expect the next gen Jetta for the US to be more downmarket than current).
More than the looks, I am waiting for the Chakan VW plant to crank out some decently priced products. And there is no mention of the Golf in VW India's plans. Only a Polo. One more over priced, underwhelming ecohatch.

Well the Golf 6 is not so much different from the Golf 5. Actually the roof pressings are the same. It was redesigned to be cheaper to make. VW were making lots of Golfs but little profit

I don't think it's the Jetta VI. Why should it be tested with the Jetta V body? Can a test mule have a proper registeration plate?

If you compare with the Jetta parked behind, the B pillar is stretched

Ajmat, looks like a Passat in the back and not Jetta.:)

This is just the test mule. The outside physical body is of present Jetta, but the basic body is different.
The reason for more down market positioning is because they want to even out even slightest overlap and for better sales and it again be targetting the younger crowd.

It is said that not the entire platform was developed from begenning. Mark 6 still has roots deep in Mark 5. Hence very easily one can come to know the similarities.

I dont know if it is supposed to have registeration plate, but the reason why it is tested with Jetta V body is to give soem camoflauge. Basic black covering gets excessive attention.

You know what they need? A 4-door version of the Scirocco.

basically a booted version with reworked mechanicals of golf VI.

2011 VW Jetta [Spied]

Looks a little chunkier this time around. Rear end reminds me of the 2005 Maxima, while the wheels have the Audi look, with the bland 5 spoke wheel.

Here are the illustrations released by leftlanenews of hte Jetta 2011. The front looks seem to be modelled on the Golf VI.

I jsut wish they provide the 2.0l TDI-CR engines rather than the noisy PD engines offered in the Indian versions currently.

That is one elegant, yet beautiful car! :thumbs up Rear shouts AUDI, but still its beautiful alright!

Hope they bring it to India with good engines, and a nice price tag! clap:

Yeah! The rear & headlamps remind me of some elements of Polo headlamp cluster as well !!

the tail lights somehow remind me of the BMW 3series and the Lambo estoque concept. looks better than the current version IMO. i just hope they change the grill.

The rear of this car reminds me of Audi A4, is it only me thinking this? Overall this new Jetta looks much fresher than the dated Jetta VW offers to us.
