First Crash - Ferrari 458 Italia ! (Already??)

Initial info - First Ferrari 458 Italia crash - BBC Top Gear

Pics & Description - Exotic Cars, Wrecked Exotic Cars, Ferrari, Lamborghini, BMW, Mercedes Benz

This is the first crash of a Ferrari 458 Italia on public roads. The accident occurred when the Ferrari 458 Italia crashed into the left rear door of a dark red Volkswagon Bora.
According to an eyewitness, the Ferrari was driving between 60-70 mph on "Armii Krajowej" street which has a posted speed limit of 30 mph. When the Ferrari approached the intersection, a small bus abruptly made a left turn in front of it. In an effort to avoid crashing into the bus, the driver of the Ferrari veered slightly to his left and crashed into the Volkswagon Bora.
Police apparently said the Ferrari driver was at fault due to the high speed.
The Ferrari had Austrian license plates and was practically brand new having been purchased in March 2010. The driver appeared to be in his early 20s.

Ouch. But it does not look to be too bad, as the rest of the body seems to be pretty intact, except for the fender area

Even if the damage is so little, it's still difficult to see the car in such a shape.

Whats the body made out of ?? Does carbon fiber break like that ???

The BBC report says that the car has been totalled. It doesnt look totalled, atleast in the pics, unless some serious damage has been done to the internals.

@stanjohn123, exactly my question as well, does carbon fibre break like this? I thought it would take the impact better than the normal fenders we see in our cars. anyone?

I am not an expert. But if i see right above the tyres it lookes like the fender broke from its joint. It doesnt look like carbon fibre broke into 2 pieces by seeing the lines are all the way symmetrically straight. Moreover i am a little bit surprised cause by no means it looks totalled to me. Fair enough the bill will run upto lakhs thats for sure but no way its totalled.

In the last the snap, the car looks truly exotic! Will hunt around for matt black color snaps in the rain for this car.

After the Gallardo i think the 458 also suffers from the same problem of engine causing fires.

Seriously, what is wrong with the new "baby" Ferrari? Someone(Lamborghini?) seems to have put a spell on it. "Thou shalt not venture outside. Otherwise thou shalt go up in flames or get hit by a bus"
@avishar: There have been only two engine fires. Rest are damages caused by accident.

Shamik i would not blame Ferrari entirely. Their fault lies in giving us the car, the rest of the fault lies in a few people being able to afford the car but not able to harness the power is throws at you. The Cars catching fire is considered a company error and i am sure the Brand would be looking into it. I somehow have a feeling excess fuel or fuel that has dripped out when you top the tank upto the brim and is not wiped from the body is the culprit against the engine heat. This is just me thinking aloud .

Wonder what will happen to the 458 in India?
