I have never understood the logic behind Toyota developing a new car namely Etios when they had the YAris and Vios which they could have launched here. They could have stripped them down and sold them at the price they are selling the Etios and Liva. I have anyway always felt that the Liva and Etios are nothing but stripped down old gen Yaris and Vios. They have made some tweaks and changed the look so that people dont compare them to the Yaris and Vios abroad. IMHO the older Yaris and Vios look much better than the Liva & Etios!

It was not more cogs gracing a more advanced transmission; the Yaris makes due with a 4-speed automatic and a 5-speed manual. The extra length is what required the exterior redesign. This gave Toyota designers the opportunity to toughen up the Yaris's styling. More sculpted fenders help give the subcompact a bolder stance, as does the heavily angled rear-most pillar (C on the three-door, D on the five). The Yaris still won't attract longing glances from Ferrari enthusiasts, but at least it's not a totally milquetoast design like the outgoing 3-door and 5-door editions.

Available only as a hatchback, the Yaris is now large enough to be considered a trunkless alternative to the Corolla (available only with a traditional boot). Riding on a 98.8-inch wheelbase that's 2.9-inches longer than 2011, nearly all of the stretch was added to make the trunk more useful. Cargo volume now stands at 15.3 cubic feet for the 3-door and 15.5 cu-ft for the 5-door. These numbers conveniently expand by folding the split rear seatbacks, adding useful versatility."

2019 YARIS Sedan in US gets updated with a new name - "Yaris iA". Toyota will have the 2019 Yaris Sedan on sale this fall.

The Toyota Yaris Sedan gives buyers the freedom to pick from three different trim levels (L, LE, XLE), unlike its predecessor offered in just one specification. Regardless of the the trims, all come with power side mirrors and a somewhat sportier front fascia featuring a honeycomb insert for the grille. There are also a bunch of piano black accents and a chrome trim.

Step up to the LE or XLE grade and Toyota will reward you with fog lights, heated mirrors with built-in LED turn signals, 16-inch wheels with a new-for-2019 dark gunmetal look, along with a lip spoiler at the back.

Standard across the lineup are active safety systems able to mitigate low-speed collisions by alerting the driver about what’s up ahead with audible and visual warnings. Should the driver ignore those warnings, the car will automatically apply the brakes.

Power is provided by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine hooked up to either a six-speed manual gearbox or to an automatic with the same number of gears.

The naturally aspirated four-cylinder unit delivers 106 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 103 pound-feet (140 Newton-meters) of torque from 4,000 rpm. There’s even a Sport mode “for more spirited driving” by boosting the torque feel.

Seeing some similarities between this and Mitsubishi ASX.

I also find it highly inspired from Mazda 3. The side and the interiors looks a straight lift IMHO but than it is not looking bad overall. A good sub-compact sedan/hatchback for US market.
