With the BMW X6 proving to be a resounding sales success, Audi is reportedly developing a Q6 crossover.
Details are limited, but Audi CEO Rupert Stadler told the German press "We can imagine a model between the Q5 and the Q7 . . . a coupe-like, four-wheel-driven model." If approved, the crossover would feature sporty styling and ride on the same platform that underpins the Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne.
Engine options would likely carryover from the Q7, but rumors suggest the model could also receive a hybrid powertrain as well as the turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 from the upcoming Audi S6.
No word on when the Q6 would be launched, but it would likely debut after the redesigned Q7 is introduced in 2012 or 2013.

I honestly find no difference at all in the face of the Q7 and this model being developed. While i like the looks of the Q7 i surely feel this model needs to have an identity of its own and not get termed as a slightly shrunken Q7. The Q5 already holds those honors and this looks like its going in the same direction.
Common Audi, something unique and different for gods sake.

For once we agree on some thing. :-) If audi want to really challenge the (love me hate me) X6, they will have to go out of the box. They need to develop something out of Audi's comfort zone (like the R8). I personally love the x6's design but not as an suv, as a four door crossover. But i am looking forward to what Audi comes up with. And the sketches look like Q7 for sure. I am pretty confident that these are not Q6 sketches.

Perhaps 34" . But yea as Mike said, good chance these sketches are from when the Q7 was introduced itself.

It's high-time Audi does something slightly different. This car needs to have its own character, otherwise people are going to be mighty confused when they step into an Audi showroom!

Audi already has a sport back i think it will compete with the X6 and the bmw GT. It is the A7.

WoW! you actually think A7 competes with the X6???
A7 is introduced to compete with the likes of cls and 5er gt. while X6 is a whole different animal. It provides a sedan like performance in an suv but lacks in off roading capabilities.

The A7 is pitched against BMW 5GT and Merc CLS. The X6 is a whole new breed which BMW calls SAC (Sports Activity Coupe), a segment BMW created to fit in the X6. Till now, there is no rival for the X6.

These are sketches from a very preliminary stage. The production version will be a lot, lot different, or it has to be a lot different. The wheels in the rendering are always larger-than-life sizes, may be to amplify the design.

But I still am a bit confused cos I can't see anything other than glowing DRLs when I walk in Seriously, last time I was there, all the lights were heavily dimmed and the SR was illuminated only with the DRLs.

sorry i meant to say wont compete with the x6 but it is a huge competitor to the gt

The second last sketch and the one above it look like something that can compete with the x6. Bmw launched the x1 and audi to follow with the q3. Bmw launched the x6 and audi again to follow with the q6. These germans just love one upmanship dont they.

Interesting thing to see would be if bmw can come up with the smaller cars that audi is about to launch like a1, a2, a3 sedan, may be q1.

Well at least as far as the A1 is concerned, i think BMW have the perfect product - The Mini. The A1 vs Mini rivalry is going great guns so as of now i dont think BMW need to rush to manufacture another A1 rival with the BMW badge. Yes, a2,a3 rivals from the BMW stable would be interesting to see.

Indeed. And if you notice, the Audi grill have a slight change in shape - starting from the A1. And this is seen on the new upcoming A6 as well.

Not sure if X6 can be termed as an SUV. From what I know, its just butch looking sedan.

+1 to that. Mini is the right match for A1. And I guess the 1-series is a good competitor for the A3.
