Re: 2014 Austrian GP - Red Bull Ring - Race Thread

Hamilton - P9 to P2, Perez - P16 to P6, awesome drive by both these guys. Both, took out 5 positions on the first lap.

Last lap overtake by Ric on Hulk was the best.

Roseberg - 165 points
Redbull -143 points

The above points says it all about the 2014 championship.

Re: 2014 Austrian GP - Red Bull Ring - Race Thread

Strong possibility that Pit Stops are going to be the bane of Lewis. It's not the first race this season when Rosberg has had a substantially faster Pit stop compared to Lewis! Is there a strategy inside Mercedes which we are not aware about?

Well, Vettel's done a similar thing in 2011 and 2013. Turnabout is fair play

Yes, I think that was towards the end of the season. But here it has taken only 8 races and Hamilton is not far behind as well to overtake second placed Red Bull.

I think he meant Rosberg's points are even more than RedBull's constructors points.

Vettel is far behind at 60, headed by Alo, Ric and Hamilton at 79, 83 and 136 respectively.

I personally don't feel he has scope of turning the tables around this time.

Re: 2014 Austrian GP - Red Bull Ring - Race Thread

Excellent track. Good to see the F1 circus return to A1 Ring.

Mercedes 3+ second pit stop is a worry. Almost in all races, Hamilton's pit stop was more than a second to Rosberg. Hamilton could have leap frogged Bottas with the help of tidier pit stop. Hamilton suffered brake issues yet again. His brakes were on fire during one of the pit stops.

Williams started the race great however faded in second part. Massa's pace was lackluster.

Force India again showed good pace. Perez is really shining this year with a podium already in his bag.

Alonso had a lonely race and fifth is still encouraging.

In the end it was a good race with lot of overtaking. Rosberg extends his lead to 29 points. Now Hamilton must win at Silverstone.

Re: 2014 Austrian GP - Red Bull Ring - Race Thread

When it comes to race day, Mercedes is still King. As is the norm, Massa faded away on sunday after an impressive saturday. Vettel continues his Weber-esque streak of bad luck, while Force India continues their good run.

"Race Monster" Alonso was super as usual, with his under-performing Ferrari. His frustration is beginning to show. If he does not win a race this season, he might have to look elsewhere. http://en.espnf1.com/ferrari/motorsp...ry/164077.html

Re: 2014 Austrian GP - Red Bull Ring - Race Thread

Quite an interesting race with few amusing incidents.

Mercedes pit-car radio transmissions. They tell Rosberg to push then immediately tell Hamilton the same.

Hamilton's message from pits "OK Lewis, it's hammer time...."

Rosberg asking pits if he can use overtake button to keep Hamilton behind. Reply from pits is yes but immediately they radio Hamilton and tell him to use overtake button to catch up to Rosberg.

TV commentator who said "Looks like they have given Mark Webber's car this year to Vettel"!!

Good to see Webber on podium taking interview but man does he speak fast. Barrage of questions in one sentence.

Yes, I noticed it once, felt suspicious of Star Sports HD's advertisement within close intervals, when switched to Star Sports SD as guessed they were telecasting the race. But then I noticed it during end of the race hence don't no was this case all along the race.
Also Star sports HD & SD lost commentary during Saturday's qualification, Alex Yoong pitched in then.

Cheers!

Hey! I felt this too. I thought it was only in my head initially : P.

Enjoyed the Race overall. Nice to see Merc 1-2 again. Surprised Hamilton didn't beat Rosberg despite the flawed pitstops though : 0. Rosberg is impressing me more and more as the season goes on...

I'm a fan of the Prancing Horse, but their lackluster over the past half a decade almost have been quite frustrating.

I pity Alonso; man with so much talent and skill is being held back by the severely under performing car. Maybe, if Alonso wasn't raking in the points for Ferrari as he has been, Ferrari would've been pushed enough to really look into the development of the car. Maybe his performances are making them believe that the task is smaller than it actually is.

I think Ferrari's performance should be calculated using Kimi's performances. The Iceman is no slouch, but he is struggling, very very badly in this year's Ferrari. Maybe if the focus is not on how well Alonso is managing the poor Ferrari and is rather on how a driver as talented as Kimi is struggling with the car, Ferrari will push for some much, much needed development.

That said, super drive from Perez. Would've been interesting to see if he could've really pushed for the podium if he didn't get pushed down 5 places in the grid. The pace on the Mercedes is surreal. They are in a league of their own and shows that if they are free from mechanical troubles; they cannot be touched.
