Circuit Information:

Grand Prix racing in the US has a long history at legendary tracks such as Daytona, Laguna Seca and Indianapolis. In 2013, the new Hermann Tilke-designed 5.513km 'Circuit of The Americas' in Austin, Texas, joined the MotoGP calendar and become an instant hit.

The Circuit Of The Americas is the first purpose-built Grand Prix facility in the U.S. near Austin, Texas, with a 5.513 km track and a capacity for 1,20,000 fans. Construction of the 1,000-acre facility was completed late in 2012, with MotoGP lining up at the track for the first time in 2013. One of its more distinctive features is near 41 m-elevation change with an impressive incline at the end of the home-straight followed by a sharp left. The circuit is one of the most varied on the GP circuit, with a mix of fast straights and tight hairpins, with most sections mirroring at least some part of a famous track around the world. It was designed by well-known German architect and circuit designer Hermann Tilke. The driving direction is counter clockwise and has a total of 20 corners with 9 right turns and 11 left turns.

The US has a fantastic motorcycling heritage - with great champions such as Kenny Roberts, Freddie Spencer, Eddie Lawson, Wayne Rainey and Kevin Schwantz being amongst the best riders to have ever competed in Grand Prix racing.

Re: MotoGP : The 2018 Grand Prix of The Americas

Marc Marquez continues his dominance at the Circuit of the Americas by clinching his 6th consecutive pole.

But this joy was shortlived as he was found blocking Maverick in qualifying session and was penalised three positions. Marquez also suffered a crash earlier in qualifying, but that didn't affect his strong form and he went on to top the timing sheets. His 46th premier class pole will stand in the record books even though the stewards have elected to demote him to fourth place on the grid.

FP2 topper Andrea Ionnone also continued his good form on this weekend to see second on the grid.

This promotes Vinales to the top spot for the first time since last year's Aragon race, ahead of Andrea Iannone's Suzuki and Johann Zarco's Tech 3 Yamaha.

Thus, the front row will be:
1. Maverick Vinales
2. Andrea Ionnone &
3. Johann Zarco

followed by Marquez, Valentino and Lorenzo on row 2. Dani Pedrosa took a fighting 9th place on the grid as he is still not fully fit after his disastrous crash at Argentina.

Re: MotoGP : The 2018 Grand Prix of The Americas

4th or 14th, seems to make no difference when Marquez is at the Circuit of the Americas. He has got his sixth straight pole here, in as many years as he has been here - that's 100 percent! And he is chasing his sixth straight win here, and we all know what he is capable of on the tracks. Let's just hope he does not accumulate any penalty - which seems to be the only thing that can stop him in this track.

See, again it's yellow colored glasses on race direction. A real "maverick " would have carved out a new racing line completely.
Be that as it may, it's going to be a firecracker of a start to the race.

Good time to plonk in some money into Dornas shares.

Re: MotoGP : The 2018 Grand Prix of The Americas

After securing his 46th pole ( for the books ), Marquez wins on the eve of his 93rd premier class race. He repeats the pole-win, for the 6th time at COTA.
Podium finish for Vinales and Innone.
Brave job by Pedrosa finishing 6th.
Championship leader Crutchlow crashed, making Dovizioso the leader, leading Marquez by one point. The top 4 leaders are separated by just 8 points.

Re: MotoGP : The 2018 Grand Prix of The Americas

It was an awesome race. Right after the first lap, Marc was nowhere to be seen by the rest of the gang. Here is a pic of Marc taking the winner's lap. I was seated in the second row, so had to take pics through the fence. Most of them crappy/unworthy, I did not take many either.
