Re: The 2019 MotoGP championship thread

That was vintage Vale!!
Absolutely joyous podium for him. Apart from that, that Suzuki, and the ducati power are still the wild ones in the mix. How much power do the dukes have and it's been so many years, I think since stoner, that they've been yards ahead. Why hasn't it been negated by anyone yet??? Anytime it's a drag on the straights, the ducati always comes out on top by some substantial margin.

Anyway, the Doctor still fights VRS. And that's good enough!

Such a nice moment to see Valentino Rossi finish 2nd, snatching it from Dovizioso on a much stronger Ducati. Dovi did mention about tyre problems and how he just couldn't fight it in the last lap.

Tragedy for Vinales and Morbidelli as they crashed on the very last lap after putting a really good race pace. Feel sad for both of them.

Cal Cruthlow was given a ride through penalty - and that looked extremely unfair. It ruined whatever podium chances that he had. He was seen rushing to the race Stewart's room, but the damage has already been done.

Jorge Lorenzo has a disastrous start as he couldn't launch properly and went into the first corner in the last place, which is diametrically opposite to his teamate.

Marquez took pole, lead every single lap and won with a huge 10 second lead. But it was b-o-o-o-ring, and for the sake of the sport I hope he slows down and makes races interesting!

So Marquez also takes the championship lead, yet again.

Re: The 2019 MotoGP championship thread

There was Marquez and then there was everyone else. He was so good that he was hardly covered during the race.
Great scrap between the Doc and the professor. Good to see Vale so excited being on the podium. Awesome drive by Rins, finishing top 5 ! Crutchlow was the biggest loser, he had the pace for podium, shame he had the penalty which to a naked eye looked harsh.

Re: The 2019 MotoGP championship thread

A truly entertaining race for everyone apart from Marquez who was riding lonely and cameras ignored him for the full race distance. Well, they tried keeping him in frame for first couple of laps, but that was it. Honestly, Marquez was in a league of his own and seemed to be running different tyres all together.

So good to see Rossi back to normalcy, his celebration and happiness was a sight. All Yamaha bikes seem to be performing well and I hope they have finally buried the demons of past. Rossi and Marquez even shook hands after race so that was an added bonus.

Rossi on the front row in a traditionally strong circuit for Marquez. It's going to be interesting tomorrow.

Re: The 2019 MotoGP championship thread

Well most the people probably didn't watch the race, thinking Marquez will stroll to win. But no. 93 had something other in mind. Having comfortable lead at the front, Marquez crashed as soon as commentator commented that the number 93 didn't had a single moment all weekend.
What followed was anxious moments for the Doctor fans , who was chased by Rins. While others faded, Rins had the pace to follow the Doctor, and finally made the move 4 laps to go.
Marquez had his first premier class win at COTA, it was another first win for a rider. Absolutely brilliant ride by Rins, who didn't crack under the Rossi pressure.
1. Rins
2. Rossi
3. Miller

Absolutely disastrous race for Honda. Marquez and Crutchlow crashing out, whereas Lorenzo had a mechanical failure.

What the Marquez crash did, was give Ducati a massive lead in championship, and the riders table is now even more tight. Top four riders with 9 points difference.
1. Dovizioso
2. Rossi
3. Rins
4. Marquez

Those commentators truly jinxed it! They went around singing paeans as to how MM isn't having even a single nervous moment this year and Marquez obliged. Wife was distraught but quickly consoled herself noting that no rider can beat Marquez and he can only be undone by his mistakes.

All that while, I was trying to keep straight face while I was dancing inside since Rossi was poised for first win in nearly two years! Sadly, that was not to be since Rins found a way past him and kept pushing.

It is extremely disheartening to see Yamaha not have any answer to Honda, Ducati and now even Suzuki. Rossi is still the best rider on a Yamaha but that is not enough.

Re: The 2019 MotoGP championship thread

What an impressive race from Rossi with a bike that is only half as impressive as the legendary racer is!

I felt sad to watch Marquez go down - especially when the bike fell the other side when he tried to pick it up, and when he was really desperate trying to push start the bike. But had he won with a huge margin yet again - making it 7 poles and 7 wins at this track, it would have literally ruined the sport. This unpredictability is what makes MotoGP interesting for the millions who follow the sport.

Would've loved to see Rossi on topp of the podium, but Alex Rins was too good and Suzuki really have found a way to manage the tyres, which gives them an advantage during the crucial last few laps, and hence it is a well deserved victory for both Rins and the factory Suzuki team!

The last time Suzuki had a win was back in 2016 with Maverick Vinales it seems. But poor Vinales had a disaster with that jump-start putting him out of contention for the Championship already, as he is trailing the new leader Dovizioso by 40 points.

Re: The 2019 MotoGP championship thread

This was actually a monster mistake from Marquez; not having experienced the extreme heat in the previous three days. I believe every other rider was in the same state, but Marquez should not have pushed not having found the limit (which he does in practice usually) in the previous outings.

My heart goes out to him, but a mistake that could have been avoided.

An entertaining race. Brilliant fight between Rossi and Rins.
Poor Marquez, tumbled the bike on the right, then picked it up and tumbled it again on the left. Then, after a desperate attempt, fell down with the bike and gave up, finally.

Re: The 2019 MotoGP championship thread

Good race. A little unnecessary from MM but that is to be expected. I love the guy.

Spectacular race by Rins. Easily beating Rossi in 2nd. Kept a cool head about it too. Lorenzo should retire.

Damn, I miss Pedrosa.

Re: The 2019 MotoGP championship thread

Fabio Quartararo becomes the youngest ever pole sitter in the top class , beating Marc Marquez's record. The two Peteonas SRT riders will start on the front grid, Marquez being the third rider.

Re: The 2019 MotoGP championship thread

Marquez wins Jerez, and now is the championship leader. Another great race by Rins who finished second, also second in championship. Vinales finally makes a comeback to podium, courtesy a good start, which has been his achilles heel.
9 points covered top four riders before the Jerez race, its the same now, just that the positions have changed. Its Marc, Alex, Andrea and Valentino now.
Poor Quartararo, who looked set for a podium had a mechanical failure. He was completely heartbroken.

Re: The 2019 MotoGP championship thread

Well.. it's now very clear. It's going to be Marquez all the way for 2019 world championship. Neither Dovi on Ducati nor Rossi on Yamaha can challenge him for championship for this year (or next). Lorenzo is languishing on a bike that doesn't suit him. In my opinion, the only combo that can beat Marquez will be a Yamaha+Lorenzo combination. Else, it will be a 9th world championship for Marquez in 2020.. 2019 is already decided..
