Formula 1 is back and the 2023 season kicks off with the Bahrain Grand Prix! :)
Where to watch: With Hotstar and Star Sports not broadcasting races this year, F1 TV seems to be the only option left. :Frustrati More discussion
here.
Qualifying: 4th March 2023 from 20:30 to 21:30 IST.
Race: 5th March 2023 at 20:30 IST.
Details of the track from Formula1.com
When was the track built?
Ground was broken for the Bahrain International Circuit in December 2002. Like the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, the developers had a blank, sandy canvas to work with, and with that fashioned the technical, 5.4km track designed by Hermann Tilke.
When was its first Grand Prix?
It was 2004 when the drivers first lined up under an unusually cloudy sky for the inaugural Bahrain Grand Prix. The race was dominated (like many in 2004) by the two Ferraris, with Michael Schumacher winning out from Rubens Barrichello, while the crowds were also treated to a fantastic dog-fight between the Jaguar of Mark Webber and the Renault of Fernando Alonso.
What’s the circuit like?
You can usually expect great racing and decent amounts of overtaking in Bahrain, while the drivers have to contend with wind, racing under floodlights and the difficulty of finding a decent set-up with the wide temperature fluctuations between sessions. The track’s most challenging point is the tight, downhill, off-camber Turn 10 left-hander, while the fast run through Turn 12 is another highlight, allowing the racers to really feel their cars coming alive.
Why go?
Given the nature of the track, race-goers in Bahrain have always got a decent chance of being treated to a 'duel in the desert' or three. Away from the race track, Bahrain, as you might expect, is a great place to catch some rays, with the 33-island archipelago kingdom featuring some jaw-dropping resorts. And if you want to do some racing yourself, the Bahrain International Karting Circuit, located right next to the track, is one of the world’s top karting facilities.
Where is the best place to watch?
Your options are slightly limited in Bahrain, given that the organisers understandably don’t want loads of fans having to traipse out into the middle of a hot desert to watch the action! We reckon your best bet is to get a place in the Batelco grandstand, giving you a great view of cars charging into Turn 8, hammering through 9 and 10 and then passing you on the run down to the short-apex Turn 11. Otherwise, the grandstand on the outside of Turns 1 and 2 will allow you to watch overtaking aplenty on either track layout.

The new season is up on us!! But is it going to be another year of RedBull / Max domination? Well, all initial reports from the trackside point to such a scary scenario! Purely on race pace, they seem to be anywhere between 0.3 to 0.5 seconds ahead of Ferrari and probably even Mercedes. Of course we cannot now discount Aston Martin, especially with Alonso! They seem to have made such significant gains!
I know its only the first race, and some things maybe even track specific, but with cost cap in place, no team can make massive improvements during the season.
Being a ferrari fan is tough. I cannot come to terms with another year of disappointment, its already been 15-16 years since 2007/08 when Ferrari won drivers championship and constructor’s championship respectively.
I hope the Aston Martin pace carries onto qualifying and the race itself. Would be awesome to have Alonso in the fight for the title.
Drive on,
Shibu
It's going to be a weird season with no telecast on TV or OTT. I am not gonna support Liberty media's greedy posture by subscribing to the over the top cost of F1TV Pro.
Such a shame that Hot Star-Sports dropped F1 from their sports coverage this year. I was frantically surfing through Hotstar app for F1 live but a quick google search revealed that the only way to watch F1 in India is through their OTT app F1 TV Pro.
No other way but installed and subscribed to the F1 TV app. Costed 2499 INR this year which will be increased to 2999 INR next year. I think the cost is justified for fans @ 200 INR per month with many races and extra content you get to see.
The telecast is OK but missed David Croft's superb commentary. F1 TV commentators are underwhelming and were hyping a bit too much.
With no F1 coverage I don't see any reason to keep Disney+Hotstar OTT subscription. They just lost a loyal subscriber.

There’s a 7 day trial option, you can try it out and decide. I’m currently on trial period, and may opt for monthly subscription for good races. It’s more to do with busyness during Sundays rather than about cost.

I too was missing Sky commentary, the realized that we can switch to international commentary option by pressing center console button. International commentary features Crofty and Martin Brundle.
What a jump have Aston made! As a Vettel fan I would have lost it if Alonso had bagged pole. Would have been a major goof up to retire. Although I think Fernando is finally happy after driving around in shitboxes for ages. Some top class job done by Dan Fallows. They'll only get better hereon.
Although the highlight of the quali today is Nico Hulkenberg. Got into Q3 and missed out the Q3 time due to track limits.

You should find a 'Globe' icon on the right hand side on the video stream. That's the one which streams SkySports commentary, where you'd find Croft, Brundle and the likes.
What a close and exciting Quali session!
Red Bull on pole as expected and Ferrari close behind.
Aston progress is real. P5 is an excellent result!.. ahead of Mercedes!! With that race pace and low deg, should be a full on battle with Ferrari.
Impressed with Hulk as well! Top Quali for him!
Gasly/Piastri will take a bit of time to settle down. Though I do not see either consistently beating their team mates.
What is worrying for Ferrari is race pace and high degradation, I cannot remember when a driver on P2 sacrificed another shot at Pole just to save a new tires for the race.
Clearly they dont think P1 or P2 is on.
Really looking forward to the race tom!
Quite impressed with F1 TV. Able to toggle between cams and onboards is a treat!
Super happy for Alonso who for once in his life made the right career choice:Cheering:
Can't wait to see Alonso vs Hamilton duels.
Q2 is where a lot of potential Q3 qualifiers lot the plot. The track improvement in the last 5 minutes was quite substantial. If it were not for that I think Bottas and Zhou would have been in the last session.
Looks like Ferrari have decided to keep a new set of softs to ensure that they are well placed for the race tommorrow. Makes sense in as way and hopefully this is evidence of a better performing strategy team.
Aston seems to be the best of the rest after Red Bull and Ferrari. Hope this form lasts through the season. By the end of the race tommorrow it will be clear which cars are kinder to their tyres and which eat them up.
Drive on,
Shibu.
Missed the qualifying as hotstar doesn't have the broadcast rights which I found out yesterday. Won't buy F1tv subscription unless Ferrari has shot at the titlerl: So pages like team-bhp is my hope for following the races.
How did Aston Martin made such a leap? AFAIK engine development is freezed apart from reliability upgrades, Mercedes engines don't seem to be that good based on last year. With right budget caps and regulations around different development freezes it is astonishing that Aston Martin made such a leap. Or is it just track specific?

Two words for Aston's improvement:
Dan Fallows!!!

I saw it on online tv streams, missed sailing the high seas for a long time as the OTT platform had been good, now they are just greedy.
Just a question to the folks who are watching this via the F1 TV app, it was mentioned we can listen to driver radios but I am not able to find that option here, has it been taken off or am I looking at the wrong place? help
Another way to see the races is to see them physically. Jokes apart, our family had already planned to come see the Season opener at Bahrain and boy oh boy, it hasn’t disappointed!
Like most events, the thrill of seeing an F1 race live on the track is unparalleled! Back to our room after a long day today, tired but raring to go for tomorrow’s race. clap:
