These diffusers are a major refinement this season and Brawn GP which was found legal to operate diffusers has seen the results.

Read the news in Planet F1.
Very very Shockked.

It cannot be just this liegate scandal as the prime reason to quit. Can it be?

I think Chinese Grand Prix will be very interesting to watch. Ferrari are not running KERS while Kubica (BMW) is going to try KERS for the first time. As far as the diffusers go Renault will debut the new (prototype) diffuser only on Fernando Alonso's car, Mclaren will also have a new diffuser and BMW on the other hand will debut their diffuser in Barcelona. Just as a side note guys, Red Bull's Adrian Newey is also developing a new diffuser for their car, if everything works out well for them, they could possibly give Brawn, Toyota and Williams tough competition.

McLaren already seemed to be running the double-decker for the Chinese GP and Hamilton posted P3 timings. I am sure they borrowed it from BGP, but it does seem to have a tremendous improvement in performance.

McLaren running interim double-decker diffuser - Planet-F1 News - from planet-f1.com

Some points from the Free Practice,
a) Kimi went wide - lack of balance without KERS!
b) Massa grained his hard-compound(!!!?) so much that he had to return to the pits earlier than expected
c) Button and Barrichello, P1 and P2

Edit: And stop. The one-two-three is Hamilton, Button, Barrichello, and that's the first time this season the world champion has ended a session on top.

I found an interesting link from another F1 forum on DDD designs.

Brawn vs Toyota vs Renault vs Williams

Click on the red button and then on "Comparativa" to see the differences. Eventhough the text is in spanish its quite understandable from the animation.

Did you guys read about the tyre choice for China. Damn, its the medium & supersofts. The supersofts in China will be worn out completely by end of 2 or 3 laps like it did in Aussie.

That takes the already-down Ferrari out of points.

Ferrari will have to go back to the drawing board as far as KERS and Diffusers are concerned. Its been a tough season so far for them and with this ruling it just got a lil tougher.
That said, they will surely fight this till the end and we can expect some innovation by the time the f1 circus reaches europe.
Atleast no one will accuse the FIA of a ferrari bias anymore!

Plus no Kers on both Ferraris this weekend. Will be interesting to see how they do. Not very well i predict.

Lewis was at the top of the time sheets in the 1st practise, but hes down to 7th now.

Looks like taking the Kers off, has affected the balance on the Ferraris as evident from Kimi running wide during the 1st practice.

Damn, the Brawns have hit the 1:35's. Good to see (and wonder how) RBR faster than the rest of the field.

Edit 1: Sad to see Ferraris in the dump, but hey that makes for a wonderful championship doesnt it.

Edit 2: BBC reportedly quotes Flavio telling La Gazzetta dello Sport:
"Our (McLaren, Ferrari and Renault) drivers are or have been world champions, and then you have a (Brawn) driver who was almost retired, and another who is a 'paracarro' (Italian for a roadside concrete post) fighting for the championship.

Kimi running wide or the Ferraris slower in the FP1 & FP2 are due to the unusually low track temparatures in China.

The F60 is still carrying the troubled DNA of the F2007 & F2008 which suffered in getting heat into the tyres.

The Non-KERS car should be nothing but an advantage to the car, since the weight distribution can be acheived to perfection with the ballast weights.

Ferrari will fight it out this season, they are already confident on getting the new diffuser and modified rear end by Spain. It should be a great season. Forza Ferrari

Not exactly shocking. Sad to see Ron Dennis go, but, I was expecting it sooner or later. Nevertheless, his achievements over the years have been great. Success, failure, scandals - he's seen them all. He will be missed. McLaren is too good a team to go down without a fight. They will bounce back. I just hope Martin Whitmarsh is good enough.
