Another Travelling Motorhead - Now Powered by TeamBHP

Salem to Chennai to Bengaluru to Germany to ???? My travel still continues. Wherever I go, the only unchanged thing was my Home Page "Teambhp.com", kudos to the whole team!

This is indeed a proud moment for me to be a part of this like-minded community. A sweet "Hi" to all fellow Motorheads out there!! I am here now & I’ll start my first travel with you guys here on the Time-Machine about my “Motoring” life-story in a slightly bigger nut-shell

29 Years old, I am an IT Specialist & Coordinator by Profession. My motoring dreams & passion grew with me ever since I was a small boy with my dad's Bajaj Chetak (Nostalgia: Most of us wouldn’t have forgotten the Hamaaraaaaaaa bajaj Ads on DoorDarshan) rides in the 1980's. That was the first "Motoring" equipment our entire family root had ever owned!!
It all started when my dad was running behind me while teaching “monkey Pedalling” on my first bicycle “Hero Ranger” . I still have some deep-scars that I received on my knee while attempting to tame it!

It then graduated to a “Mofa” and a “Luna” owned by our Building Engineer. Friends at school already had started bringing their own fleet of TVS XL / TVS Scooty / Bajaj Sunny, when I practically “Pestered” my dad to an extent that he bough my first bike, the “TVS XL Super” (the famous blue color) within just 10 days. Lucky me, we skipped all waiting periods on those days as the Sales Manager was my dad’s old student (Dad himself is a Head Master at high school). The pride and the Adrenalin pump I had on my first ride to school must be the second best all my life (THE best is when my new-born Son was handed to me at the delivery ward on 24th Feb 2008)!!

It was the summer vacations of my 11th grade, I started demanding for a RE Bullet. Dad was not convinced for it as I was Under-aged and this monster “would not” suite his Teaching profession in his opinion. Just not to shatter my dreams, I was gifted a TVS Suzuki Max100R – another blue entrant (exchanged at dealership for with the XL Super) during the initial days of my 12th grade.

Within less than a year, I had to move out from Salem to Chennai to do my Engineering. 1st year at College was at Hostel, quite an experience. I did miss my best pals back at home a lot but this is when life started teaching new lessons to all of us. By the end of First Year, I and my new close-buddies have decided to move out of the hostel. We took a house at Saidapet, Chennai and all of us bought bi-cycles for local commuting. A second episode on bicycling was a short-lived one for me. Dad has started using the Max100R extensively by then, we had to decide on another new bike.

Dad was very clear that the new bike will be for me and the choice came to me. After a deep-drill, I finalised the celebrated bike HeroHonda Splendor (red). Very quickly I and my best pal had taken our MCWG drivers licenses. We felt it was quite an “Achievement” to start driving with a DL! Took my regular KPN A/C bus from Chennai on a Thursday night to take delivery of the new bike. There was a surprise waiting for me on Friday evening after the delivery!

My dad asked me, “Son, how are you going to take this bike to Chennai?” for which I replied with my idea of parcelling it to Chennai. He just commented “I thought you guys are active young Motorheads & would be driving it”. “A 350 kms drive on bike!!!” Oh my Gosh, did he really mean it??!?!?! Unbelievable for my and my best pal, we decided to take the plunge. He too is a cool Motorhead and was doing his Engineering at Sathyamangalam. He faked at his home that he had some urgent work at his College and we hit the highway the very next day at around 5:30 AM. It was a great experience to us, we relish it even now!!
Years passed by and I got placed on-campus and my first posting was at Bangalore (not Bengaluru yet that time). My friend on the other hand got his job at Chennai & I left the Splendor under his care. Things did change at Bangalore and I started dreaming back about the RE Bullet. After brief discussions with mom, got dad convinced. An additional motivation was my (then-girlfriend) wife. She just said “Man, live your dreams”, what more do a person need? Soon, I got my RE Machismo 350 delivered from the RE Brand store at Jayanagar (near Jayadeva flyover). It really was a MACHINE!! I loved every bit of its ownership.

I had to start travelling around Europe for official deputations and very soon my marriage was finalised. This is when dad decided to buy a car & he was very clear that whatever it is, delivery must be before marriage. I thoroughly started searching for technical and other aspects of a car and a random google search brought me to Team-BHP. There was no looking back from then on, every day and every logon was learning. It was at Team-BHP where I discovered the Motorhead in me. With unlimited information at TeamBHP, I decided that Alto LXI must be the right choice and we booked it. 1 month before my marriage came the next surprise from my dad. He took delivery of the car and drove it straight to Bangalore and gave me the keys and RC and said “This is your parents’ gift for your marriage. Keep the girl you have loved safe and happy”.

The Alto LXI was an Amazing first car to all of us. It was quite a reliable car, more than half our times were spent travelling on it. Bangalore – Coimbatore, Bangalore – Salem, Bangalore – Chennai, Bangalore – Goa, Bangalore – Mysore and a lot more of driving fun – This Alto LXI was the perfect marriage gift to us!

I and my wife felt that dad’s Max100R is nearing its life and has to be replaced. I knew dad was a core TVS Motors fan and would argue that there is no match to their bikes. So decided on a TVS Star City (Purple – my wife’s favourite color) and gifted it through my Son on my Dad’s birthday. He was quite happy with it and the “Button Start” was the most interesting point for him.

Very soon, I was deputed at Germany for 2 years. I travelled with my wife and Son and told my dad that it is high time for him to start owning a car for himself. I had maintained the car quite well and it had 36000 kms on its reading after 2 years of its usage. We knew that the car still has more than half of its life and should not be sold. Its been 22 months now since then and he continues revving with it. The Speedo shows 60000 KMS mow & the Alto is still pristine! Slowly, I am pulling him into Team-BHP reading too for getting better understanding about the machine & driving techniques.
I had been regularly visiting Europe on short trips even before my marriage. SIXT is my favourite renting company at Europe. Main reason is that we have very lavish discounts with Sixt through my employer that includes unlimited kilometres, a very minimal loss-damage / theft protection waiver, etc…

A very special point with SIXT is that their entire rental cars are less than 20000 kms run and must probably will be less than 1 year old. Their fleet is extremely impressive & I have enjoyed numerous numbers of drives with them. The best cars from the lot I have driven are BMW 320D, VOLVO XC60, BMW X1 AT, Nissan Qashqai+2, Mercedes B180, VW Passat, Opel Insignia, Pugeot 5008, Audi A4, Mini Cooper, and so on. The Top speed that I have achieved till date is 240 kmph at the German Autobahns. Each rental itself is a memory; I shall share a lot of it in my due course at this Forum. I do hold a German Drivers License (Klasse B) and this itself was quite an experience. I shall find some time to post more about it in a different thread.

In 2 months from now, I will be back at Bangalore and I do not want to disturb the car-ownership of my dad. Presently I and my wife are ok with a New Jazz Select but couldn’t decide yet on it due to petrol price fluctuations these days. Scorpio, Xylo and Nissan Sunny are also on our Diesel list. I am unsure regarding my short-term travel plans that may impact a long-term ownership if it is going to be a new car. So considering the recent price situations of pre-owned petrol cars, we are even drilling down at good options in pre-owned petrol sedans.
I hope you guys did enjoy this travel on my time-machine and here are we now. I am not an experienced Blogger. So, do post your comments / feedbacks – I would really appreciate them & try to improvise wherever possible. As a member here, I shall try to be as active as possible with a lot of “Gives” and “Takes” with you guys. As Team-BHP stickers say, “I Drive Safe” & “Live to Drive”.

Happy Revving guys, see you all around!!!

That's just awesome! I'm a huge believer in pre-worshipped cars. Would highly recommend a used Civic or Altis to you. One is fun to high-revv, the other immensely practical to live with. Life of over 2.0 lakh kms, and going really cheap (starting at 4 lakhs).

Hope to bump into you over on some interesting discussion.

Thanks for this, I will definitely convey this to him. Hopefully he gets himself registered sometime (I am sure this is going to take me atleast a few months to convince him on such e-blogging activities)

I have read your threads on your pre-worshipped Civic, man - what an ideal deal was it!! I am not sure if I would be so lucky like you to strike a good deal like yours, nevertheless I will definitely consider this option when I reach Bangalore (Aug end).

And, whatever the progress be, I shall make sure that the same is updated in its relative threads.
