Re: Salute from the TankMan

Hey Tankman! Great intro there and congrats on the Endeavour. Can't thank the fauji folks enough for the sacrifices you make to protect us at the border!

I'm ready to drive from Bangalore to Jodhpur for a tank ride! I hope the CO is a car person and if he's a Team-BHP fan, it's easier for mini meets within the limitations of the Army

Salute back to the TankMan!!

Welcome to the community desertknight73

I absolutely loved your intro and your replies (not to mention this is besides what you actually do for our country). Now that I have been given a thumbs up by the wifey to drive all the way to Jodhpur (on a condition that I do not leave her behind), I'd be honored if I'd get a chance to meet you and your machine. If that leads to actually hopping inside that would be icing on the cake.

Kindly add me to the already long list

P.S: Wishing you all the best with your new on-road beast!

We solute you Tank Man. Its so great to have you here, welcome aboard. I grew up near the army area, where we would see the tanks very regularly. It is quite a sight to see the tanks moving along the road.

Yes! These behemoths weigh approx 42 tons, are powered by 1000 BHP, V-12, Turbocharged, multi-fuel engine, and can achieve speeds of upto 60kmph off road and 50kmph on the tarmac (or what's left of it after the tanks pass).
P.S: Also fires missiles on targets as far as 5km away.
P.P.S: This is generic info available on the internet too, so I'm not breaching any confidentiality protocols.
Welcome to the forum, great to have someone who has 1000 bhp, 12 wheels and two tracks to steer!

I couldn't help but notice the specifications you described closely matched the
T-72 "Ajeya" in Indian Army Service.

Looks like this too much heat problem has been around for years since the Babus and Politicians bought Tanks without ACs despite the Army telling them not too!

"The Russian T-90 tanks bought by India were rendered vulnerable as components showed signs of degradation under extreme heat as they were bought without air conditioners, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) said in its latest report. The CAG noted that the tanks were procured without the ACs ignoring the recommendation of the field trial teams."

Off Topic: If you Google "Tank Man" this is what comes up!

Salute from the TankMan-screenshot-20210606-2.21.17-pm.png

I believe those are a line of Chinese Type 59 tanks, a version of the Soviet T-54A tank during the Tiananmen Square Massacre stopped by a protestor.

Re: Salute from the TankMan

Welcome aboard Tankman.

Congratulations on your Ford and welcome to Ford family too.

My school is in close proximity to a DRDO laboratory. I use to see a lot of tanks transported into the complex. Also a lot of pointy things covered with tarpons. I always wanted to know more and explore but life took a different direction.

I still watch NGC’s megafactories and other documentaries on your machines.

Good luck to you sir.

Best,

Welcome to the forum, champ! Its an even bigger honour knowing you than it'd be knowing someone who drives a Bugatti, for real. Pleasure to have the real heroes on board. See you around.

Welcome onboard and salute TankMan!

You reminded me of an ex-colleague who was also a tank man and a special forces commando.

Wishing you safe miles on the Big Guy as well as your little Endeavour!

One of my trainers told me once, when I asked a similar question to him, "if you are inside and the tank falls off a height, say a cliff, you will come out alive." It was many years back and I was in a T 72 then with him.

Re: Salute from the TankMan

Welcome to the forum @desertknight73! I am sure you must laughing when fellow members describe their cars being built like tanks. I visited a tank manufacturing factory near Chennai as a college student. Apart from all the amazing technology, the most memorable part was the demo drive of the tank - everything around vibrates as if a train is passing by.

PS: A different "tank man" makes the news around this day of the year. June 4th. You can read about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tank_Man

Re: Salute from the TankMan

Welcome to the forum. Infact I also thought that "tankman" would be related to the brave heart standing in front of the Chinese Tanks.
Vijayants were sure fun to drive and a deadshot in static mode. Almost like the Lee Enfield Rifle or 303 but sadly got obsolete with the war turning all high tech. It sure does get a lot hotter than 48 on some days.

Jai Hind!
What an intro, TankMan !!
You might be the first one to receive such a biggest and wholehearted welcome to the Forum ever.
And why not? You ought to have, Man..

Every fellow member here seems to have gone overjoyous with your introduction to the community of Motorheads.
Special thanks for your prompt and disciplined replies, compiled neatly and proficiently.

The entire scenario over here has almost transformed as to that of a Republic Day parade when 'civilians' just get a live glimpse of the biggies on road, dreaming of riding one someday.

By the way, in view of your regular desert rides, I guess driving a Ford on a tarmac would surely be felt like an Oasis by the Motorhead within you.
So no any more guesses now, that's the name I would like to suggest for your Ford- OASIS !
Hope, you like it.

Wish you many miles of safe and happy driving in both your rides.
Regards,

Jai Hind !!

Hey desert knight. Welcome to the forum.

I think you will be known more and become popular as the tankman rather than your pseudonym desert knight.
