Ahlein! ahlein! welcome to the forum! we are but mallu's from the gelf and proud of it once you go about the forum you will see many a person referring to themselves in such a manner all in good humour and to give others a more accurate idea about us not looking to offend you or anything, its just a stereotype so playing along with it is more fun. hehe!

hope to see lots of stuff from your side! have a nice time around the forum! take care and drive safe!

Welcome Dr_know. Enjoy your stay here and tell us more about your cars.

Regarding the accent thing, it is best to smile at it, let it pass and move on, rather that getting riled. If people started getting offended at these little jabs, the Sardars would be rioting most of the time.

Thanks for the welcome all.

Hey I aint pissed off or something.

@ nitroxx: I had the chance to drive to Saudi but it was not a very pleasant experience to make it worse my lack of knowledge of Arabic made it worse.

As you might have noticed I said Ahalan Wasahalan where the right thing to say was Ahalan.

Anyways thanks once again.

I would think we should learn to laugh, even on the rare occasions when the joke happens to be on us. Anyway to each his own.
Yes, i second that.
We should learn to laugh and laugh at ourselves (more often than laughing at others). The world will surely a better place if everyone knew how to take a joke.
BTW, i'm a mallu (if i can use that word) who grew up in Palakkad with roots in Kollam.

Enjoy your stay here.

What do these terms mean ?

Are you referring to Cochin as the cleanest city ? Because my impression was the opposite based on what I read in Malayalam newspapers, which mentioned overflowing garbage bins etc. Maybe things have changed.

Short for Malayali - easy to say/type. Like Gujju for Gujarati. I hope you do not see something demeaning in this term also.

Alappuzha aka Venice of the East, though IMO, Amsterdam of the East would be a better fit.

My last post was just before I hit the bed, so please excuse the gibberish.

The message I was trying to get across was that I have no problems with all mallu or gelf stuff as long as the intention is not derogatory. I work in an office where there are guys from all over the world and its especially guys from our own place (India) who use these words with such intentions (not all of them but some of them to whom I have made my point very clear).

I have been here in Bahrain for a long time but just know a few words in Arabic as my interaction with the Arabs or locals are limited (studied in Indian School & work with a US company now).

Ahalan means Hello and Ahalan Wasahalan means welcome, so I guess you guys get an idea of my knowledge of Arabic.

Yea I am hoping on making a trip to Dubai probably before the end of this year or early next year don’t have a fixed time frame yet. I have official trips that are in planning stages for which there are not dates yet but I will surely get in touch with TBHPians in Dubai if I do come that way.

Also would like to know if any TBHPian is there in Kings Bay, GA might be heading that way in Jan.

Cheers All!
