Ahalan wasahalan!

I have been on & off this forum for more than a year, never posted or commented till now. The quality of this forum speaks for itself and is the main reason I decided to join in.

Anyways here's some info about myself:

Am not a doc as my name might suggest but a guy who is in career dilemma as I studied computers but work in Safety!

Not much of a tech guy but I will contribute in all possible ways that I can.

Been interested in cars, motorcycles and all things related for as long as I can remember.

I am located in the middle east right now, originally from Cochin and been here for almost whole of my life (was in India 1998-2002). Love traveling, have had the opportunity to go to a few countries.

Previous cars: Esteem 95/96 bought 2nd hand in 98 and owned it till 2002 before I turned it over to my brother and left the shores. He sold it to my friend in 2005.

BMW 525i 93 bought 2nd hand in 2002 and owned it till 2004.

Present Car: Mitisubishi Galant 2.0 2004 purchased new (Use this sparingly now).

Mazda 6 2006 purchased new. OEM Sport Kit, No mods to engine. Audiobahn amplifier & Subwoofer, rest of the car is stock pretty much!

Here's a sneak peak of my Mazda 6:

Welcome aboard dr_know,

What exactly do you do in the safety field ? Why the career dilemma, arent there a lot of areas (these days) where safety and computers intersect?

cya around,
R

Thanks!

I do general industry safety, fall protection, traffic safety etc. Well the dilemma because I am still very interested in getting back to IT in spite of being in safety for more than 5 years but I guess its a long shot as I do not have work experience to get back or else I would have to do further studies.

With the present job I am in charge of database management of an application we use to track safety issues (to include trainings, mishap reports etc) so I guess you can say that is where both intersects.

Yea I did forget to mention in my previous post that my other interest is photography not that I do a whole lot of it.

A very common combo given the link between Mallus and the 'Gelf'.

Thanks for the welcome supremeBaleno.

I see this attitude all the time just because a few or even if most guys from Kerala (or for that matter from any part of India or world) have an inappropriate accent that does not warrant such discriminative statements.

Its unfortunate that we resort to squabble among ourselves while we are here on different purpose.

Not trying to start another argument or debate here. Once NO HARD FEELINGS, just that I have come across such statements too often.

Hey dr_know, I did not think you would take the accent part so seriously.

It was supposed to be in jest - especially with me being a Mallu myself.
I would think we should learn to laugh, even on the rare occasions when the joke happens to be on us. Anyway to each his own.

Sure buddy, I did not take it seriously but just wanted to make sure I made my point on this issue and is sad how people generalize everything!!

I never did understand how and why a person from Kerala can be called a mallu and I will leave it at that, as this is not mine or your intention of being a member here.

Yea very true statement that at times we should learn to laugh even when the jokes on us, it helps keep things in a balance.

And if its not too much to ask, could you tell me where in Kerala are you from?

Thanks rippergeo. I hope to be in Cochin atleast a couple of times in 09 and will defintely get in touch with all if possible when I am there.

He cannot. He will have to drive through Saudi Arabia - not what you might call a recommended experience. Perhaps he will be able to drive down in about 3 years when the Bahrain-Qatar-UAE sea link is ready.

On the upside though, he can always take a budget flight across and rent a really fancy car.
