Thanks! Do you face the problem of end can(muffler) rusting? Although the muffler in Chevy Spark is of Walker make, it doesn't stand well against conditions in India. My SA reported that, mufflers on 2007,2008,2009.5(?) are rusting badly. I temporarily got it welded. You got it replaced?

I did not face this problem. It is still running on stock muffler.

It seems to be a norm that the suspensions of the Spark HAVE to be replaced at least once around 30-40k KMs. Your is the 3rd Spark on TBHP which needed a suspension change. It looks this is a manufacturing fault with all Sparks. Whats your take on this?

I did not face this problem either. It is 70K KM, and still running on stock suspensions. In fact, I really love Spark's suspension than my wife's Estillo's suspension.

Also, since the last few months I've been experiencing a lot of issues with the brakes! At speeds of 15-20kph the car would screech to a sudden stop even at the slightest tap on the brake! Got it reported and checked twice, chevy guys clean up the brake drums & pads which seems resolve the issue for a few days but then the same thing happens again!

Has anyone else faced the same issue?

This is common. I did not bother to get it checked. This happens only Rainy season. As StrangeWizard has suggested above, I try some braking before joining main road. After first few braking, there won't be any noise. But initially it was embarrassing. Most of the people on street would stop and look at my car expecting some accident.

Main problems I faced were -
1. Driver side door opening lever (inside) was replaced
2. Coolant assembly had leakage. Some parts were replaced.
3. AC Condensor was replaced. But it was because something hit the condensor from below.
4. Turn indicator setting was adjusted, earlier, unless it is 90 degree turn, it won't auto stop.

Other service expenses are routine.

@radek

That is encouraging to know. Even I found Spark's suspension better than EON and most other cars in this range.

Thanks a lot Eminenttismo.

The current LT model has beige all over the place, which is going to be difficult to maintain. Also, did you get single DIN system as stock? We've got a double DIN system. I wish Chevy hadn't removed the rear wiper+washer. It doesn't make sense to remove features without reducing the cost. Secondly, is that the stock gear lever? What I saw in our Spark was totally different and a bulky one.

Is that rusting near the exhaust? If yes, its some serious amount of rusting. Can't we do something about it?

Otherwise, your car looks awesome at 41k. Great job maintaining it so well.

Thanks Ajay_Satpute. Congrats on your SPARK.

I didn't get any music player with the car. Yes, the 2012 model offers 2DIN system. They removed the Rear Wiper and Washer, that's bad. No no, it's not the stock leveler. It's an aftermarket one by Sparco.

About the rust, it's the rusting of the welded piece of metal! I'm thinking whether to buy a stock exhaust or source a Magnaflow from USA, hence delaying.

Thanks again. Please let me know if you wanted to know about anything else.
:)

Wonderful and very detailed review. I too own a White Spark PS from Mar 2010. Done close to 30k kms in nearly 2.5 years and going good. Mine is fully modified as below:
  1. 4 x 2 x 1 headers,
  2. BMC DIA cold air intake,
  3. Iridium Spark Plugs,
  4. Fully Synthetic OWS oil.
Most of this was done when the odo was at 8k kms. Car feels much better and the sluggishness with AC is present but not very obvious. The growl now at low RPM is pleasing while at higher RPM is racy and am just loving every bit of it. Thankfully, my suspension is holding strong and no issues so far. The only major issue which I have to address is power steering oil leakage. They have to change the entire rack or probably the steering box itself. Apart from this, touch wood, no other issues so far and after a wash, the car feels fresh and new. :D

Hey, I've gone through your Spark, One of a kind thread. I must say, it's one of a kindagree:. May be it's THE ONLY Spark in India with such extensive mods. Can you please post a video on your spark? Thanks!

Good review!
I own a Spark LT purchased in August 2011 and it's running alright! Done around 15k on the odo.
Overall the car has been really good, but i do have a few complaints:
1. The NVH levels go awfully high above 80kph

At speeds >80 - Nosie? In my case... Yes, cause I've a broken muffler, and an Aftermarket Air Intake. Vibrations? Except the very slight vibration of clutch pedal, none. Harshness? I don't know what that is in a car.

@Eminenttusmo:

The Spark is home. We took the delivery today morning and all went well. Have already driven about 55 kms and the feeling is nice.

The ownership report is underway and should up soon.

Thanks for all the info.

Guess the car behind!

While i was doing my routine checkup, I found the air intake hose loosely held. Fixed it promtly. Thank god, nothing serious has happened.

PART I:
I happened to open the Glove Box today, surprised to find there is NO AIR FILTER on the blower. There is lots of fine dust around the blower, and I'm a bit worried now. Should I start DIYing an Air filter? Gurus help!:deadhorse

PART II:
I'm afraid I'll have to buy some Daewoo badges! And there is no doubt, some of the components are made in Korea. See the Glove box is made by E-HWA Industrial Co. , Clearly a Korean supplier(Source)

@Eminenttismo, the best mileage I have got in city is 16kmpl. With intermittent AC and varying traffic condition it hovers between 13-15 kmpl. In highway with intermittent AC it gives between 18-20 kmpl. I have never driven my sparky with 100% AC. method-tankful to tankful.
