Current ODO: 82450 km

Update on the major service done:

As posted above, replaced all major fluids and filter cartridges. Also I see a kit nylon mesh filter support @ Rs.351.
  • Other than the regular service [80k km], the following were replaced.
  • Assay hose radiator outlet : Rs. 480
  • Kit lined shoe crown assay : Rs. 2725
  • Total for Parts : Rs. 7809
Labour:
  • Evaporator R and R : Rs. 2730 [don’t know what it is and forgot to ask them too]
  • 80k km service labour : Rs. 3342
Total for labour : Rs. 6869
Vat + Tax : Rs. 1950
Total damage : Rs. 16,660

No more foul smell as they have cleaned the entire area after opening the dash.
Few things/issues that ‘showed up’ after the service.
  • Opening up the dash and re-fitting meant an awkwardly placed/refitted HU [ICE] which required a bit of input [common sense] from my side.
  • The rear camera monitor wasn’t working which needed another inspection and correction.
  • Both the ORVMs got paralysed = couldn’t electrically control from inside. The panel below steering wheel had to be opened again only to see those cables to ORVMs cut. Culprit looks like a hungry rat, but those were working fine before I sent the vehicle for the service.
  • Did a test drive and was annoyed with an irritating vibration noise somewhere from behind/under the steering wheel. Definitely nothing to do with engine and other mechanicals. That panel was opened again and a couple of hanging tubes/pipes were held tightly.
Am I satisfied with the service ? Yes. Have already done Palakkad- Munnar –Ooty on all sorts of roads. No issues at all and drives absolutely fine with super silent cabin. But then “Scorp” wasn’t behaving any differently prior to the service. Will update as I munch more miles.

re: Mahindra Scorpio SLE (M-Hawk) - Now, 6th Year & 90,000 kms

ODO : 84,000 km

Covered a significant mileage since the 80k km service. Did Palakkad- Munnar-Ooty-Mysore-Munnar-Palakkad = almost all sort of roads.
  • No issues except for a fused fog lamp bulb which was replaced, costing Rs.600.
  • Checked FE only once, returning a [ lower than usual ] figure of 11.2 kmpL with 100% AC.
“Scorp” will have another major outing in a week or so. This time Palakkad – Hyderabad, a few days of in and around the city and then back.

re: Mahindra Scorpio SLE (M-Hawk) - Now, 6th Year & 90,000 kms

Completed another major road trip covering around 3000km and now the ODO is close to 88,000 km mark.

Palakkad- Salem-Hosur- Anantapur- Kurnool -Hyderabad –[some local drive in Hyderabad= stay for 15 days or so] – Kurnool- Anantapur-Hosur-Salem- Dindigul- Theni-Bodi-Munnar [Home-stay for a couple of days] – Trissur-Palakkad.

The ‘Scorp’ stood strong and solid like a tank and performed absolutely beautifully in spite of experiencing some of those unexpected speed breakers in and around Bangalore . Since the majority of the drive took place on beautiful 4-Lane roads, I was consistently hitting the 120 kmph mark most of the time.

FE [ checked once during the trip] = 11.4 kmpL with AC all the time[high + 2nd]
Issues faced = NONE, just gave it a decent wash while in Hyderabad and after we got home in Palakkad.

Should get the routine wheel alignment + rotation [if need be] done. Not in any sort of hurry as the 'Scorp' won't have any serious outing for another 3 months or so in my absence.

Can you please post an updated service record (With costs) - updated version of what you had posted post 65k service.

Also, with respect to the anti rust underbody coating - was it done at a 3M workshop or was it a DIY for you?

Bought 3M and got the application done at a local garage.

re: Mahindra Scorpio SLE (M-Hawk) - Now, 6th Year & 90,000 kms

Update : 90,000 km Service + Pre-Monsoon inspection
Current ODO : 88022 km

The vehicle was picked up from home by a personal @ Mahindra A.S.S/ Trissur which is around 50 km away from home.

  • Issue reported: Some humming noise from under the hood while cruising.
  • The culprit detected : a faulty wheel bearing [front RHS]
  • All the fluids topped up
  • A general check up was carried out which includes the condition of suspension components. Found everything in shape. Some basic tightening of bolts/components to make sure the vehicle continues to feel ‘tight’ with no sign of rattles at all.
The cost of 90,000 km service :
Part : INR 1740
Labour : INR 674
Total : INR 2414

Got an e-mail from the SM with the service report/details today afternoon. As I was reading his e-mail, received a call from my parents back home saying that the ‘Scorp’ has just been dropped back home after the service.

Will be back in India next week for a longer vacation. Can’t wait for some monsoon drives to some of my favourite destinations in Kerala in rains.

Thank you M35 for sharing the 90K service update. Has the humming noise been fixed by replacing the bearing, because in your cost break-up I could not see that or does the Rs 1740/- includes the bearing cost as well.

Just that I am curious to know the bearing replacement (part and labor) cost. I have a same issue in my pre-worshipped Innova. After the recent trip to my native, I am experiencing a humming noise @ speeds of 60 kmph and above. So the service centre test driver had a longish 10 kms test drive and he acknowledged the noise coming from front at the said speeds. He said the front right side bearing needs replacement. The estimate for the front bearing replacement part and labor is about Rs 7,400/-. The bearing itself costs Rs 6,500/-, labor charges Rs 500/- and outsourcer charges for bearing removal and refitting Rs 350/-. The bearing for ABS brakes equipped car comes with a different roller and is costly from non-ABS one by Rs 1000/- I was told.

Not sure about the Toyota pricing, but on my Scorpio, they replaced ‘front RH inner and outer bearings’ which was billed at Rs.1740 + a labour charge of Rs 674 for the same . All other inspection + regular checks + fluid top ups for the 90k km service were done FOC.

P.S: The worn out bearings have been sent back home and shall update on it with a picture some time next week since I am currently out of country.

Thank you for sharing that. Seems to be very reasonable price for a bearing. Cannot fathom why Toyota is charging such a premium for the bearing.

re: Mahindra Scorpio SLE (M-Hawk) - Now, 6th Year & 90,000 kms

'Scorp', 6 years old ?!!

Will be flying back home in a couple days. The ‘Scorp’ will have some serious outings during rains this time around.

It was in 2009 in the month of July that ‘Scorp’ joined our family. Can’t believe that the beast is 6 years old. Today the “Scorp” looks about the same and drives even better.

This picture taken @ Mysore should be as old as the 'Scorp' itself.

re: Mahindra Scorpio SLE (M-Hawk) - Now, 6th Year & 90,000 kms

Did a quick drive to Munnar and back recently. Amazing experience, driving during rains in Kerala. Scorp feels as refined and 'tight' as ever.

Scorp on the way back to Palakkad from Munnar via Marayur/Udumalpettai.

Couldn't resist from capturing some wildlife from inside my 'Scorp' after rolling down the front window

Good job getting rid of that walrus tooth!
Can you post a pic from a bit farther away, such that the whole vehicle can be seen, after this modification? I always wanted to do this mod on my Scorp, but never got round to doing it, and then sold it.
