You'll notice the NBU advantage when you drive on a highway with proper reflectors and road signs, the way highways should be. These bulbs are able to light up reflectors and signs that are literally a mile away. This comes really handy on overnight drives. Referring to the high beam here.

Also, I find that the color of the light is such that the eyes do not tire out as quickly. You can drive longer.

re: 2014 Honda City | My Diesel Rockstar Arrives | EDIT: 10 years completed and running strong

Its been a long time since my last post. Car is going well - planning to head for the 30K service along with the Honda Recall this weekend. Meanwhile I got the 3M Interior Cleaning done on the car today at 3M Car Care on Bull Temple Road.

Here are some pictures from the 3M Center on Bull Temple Road:

Under Body Treatment Bay:

I had got the UnderBody treatment done for my car at the JP Nagar 3M - when I asked if they can do a top up - they refused and said its franchisee owned only and I would have to go to JP Nagar 3M again for top up. Need to double check if this is correct as at the time of sign up I seem to remember that I was told that I could go to a 3M store anywhere.

Overall Experience
The Interior cleaning costed me Rs.2,622 all inclusive. The work done was good. They promised to deliver the car in 2.5 hours and called me 30 minutes before time and said the car is ready. The work done is as per the 3M quality and I would say this Center is also on par with the other 3M shops.

Above is picture of the window handle before the 3M Clean up. As can be seen there was quite a bit of dirt that had gathered. This was something that I could not easily get rid of on my own.

Will post more after the 30K Service and the Recall Replacement of the Fuel Return Pipe is done!

30,000 KMS Paid Service and Fuel Return Pipe Recall Updates

Went in for the 30,000 kms Paid Service and also requested for the Fuel Return Pipe Recall to be also completed along with it.

Gave the vehicle for service at 9-00 AM in the morning and mine was the first car in their bay. The SA promised to deliver the car by 4-00 PM in the evening.

The only complaint I raised was the rattling noise from the dash which had re-appeared. Got a call promptly at 3-45 PM saying the work has been completed and the bill was for 2535/-

Find enclosed the details of the 30K Paid Service below:

Find enclosed the details of the Fuel Return Pipe Recall Below:
2014 Honda City | My Diesel Rockstar Arrives | EDIT: 10 years completed and running strong-recall01.jpg

The SA confirmed that the rattling noise has been fixed. He said if it re-appears again they would have to remove the whole dash and do a much bigger check which he said would cost a couple of thousand rupees.

He also suggested that if the sound is not so loud then given the diesel engine noise that can be ignored

Anyways - except for that last comment, I was happy with everything else - the work done was good and on time. Hoping to do more long rides soon...

Thanks vsrivatsa for an elaborate information with pictures. I saw your post just now while searching about headlight upgrade.

Comparing the two pictures you posted (stock bulbs vs NBU), I felt that stock bulb gives better illumination. The throw seems to be same for both.

What is your experience over last 6 months? Are you still using NBU?

I did not find it to have improved the illumination too much but still sticking to the NBUs. I think to see realistic improvement one needs to consider Xenon HID type of an upgrade.

Thank you mate for sharing the 30K service details. I noticed the invoice showing oil quantity as 5 units of 100ml. Does this mean only half a litre oil was put or is it 5 litres?. This question arises because the charges for the oil change seem to be too low.

Yes, what you have noticed is correct - the charges for oil change is low since majority of it is free as part of the Recall from Honda. The SA said only some additional volume needed would be chargeable - so that is what got charged.

Thanks for the reply, that was lightening quick. However I didn't get you. The recall was for fuel return pipe replacement, if I am not wrong. Are they giving the engine oil free as a part of this recall?

If you see on the previous post on the image related to the Bill - there is an item in the Recall Task Sheet called: "Replace Fuel Pipe, Pump and Engine Oil". So the Engine Oil is replaced as part of the Recall.

The SA claimed that since I am clubbing the Service also with the Recall - they may require some additional Engine Oil some minimal amount which they would charge and that is the minimal charge on the Engine Oil which has been made.

Can you advise what is the tyre pressure you've been maintaining on your XM2 195/60/R15 tyres, front and back.

I've upgraded to the XM2 195/60/R15 tyres and filled 33 PSI but felt that the ride was a bit bumpy.

Earlier on the MRF ZVTV 175/65/R15, I had maintained 34 PSI (Front) and 32PSI (rear).

re: 2014 Honda City | My Diesel Rockstar Arrives | EDIT: 10 years completed and running strong

People following my posts on the Official Review would be aware that my car is now back

The original car mats I had purchased from Honda had completely worn out in the front. The rear ones remained in good condition. Now I thought was a good time to replace the Car Floor Mats.

There were four main considerations I made:
1. Maxspider 3D Kagu - These are the best ones and cost a bomb. I enquired prices in JC Road and got a best price quote of Rs.5,700.

2. Coozo 5D Mats - These are mid tier and cost about 3,775/- and come from an Indian brand Coozo (www.coozo.in).

3. Star Mats - These again are mid tier and cost about Rs.3000/- (URL)

4. Coozo 3D Mats - These are entry level and cost about 1,275/- and come from Coozo again. At this entry level price segment there are a multitude of brands.

I had seen the 3M Nomad Mats when I purchased the car but had decided to go for the 3D Mats as against the Nomad Mats so this was not on my list now.

After dilly-dallying between the options - I decided to go for the Coozo 5D Mats. I placed the order on the Coozo.in website. I did not receive any email notification even after 3 days and so I emailed them and promptly received a response back saying they are preparing shipment. I also got a phone call where they checked the model and also if the car was a manual or automatic.

Post that, it was again a wait of another 4-5 days and I finally received the shipment:

Overall fitment to the model seems good and I am happy with the purchase. In terms of durability - that is a wait and watch mode for me as I did not receive any real feedback from TBHP on the questions I raised on the 3D Mats thread in the forum.

Hi,

I ordered the same coozo 5d mats for my and my dad's city. I have been using these for the past 6 months approx and they seem to be quite durable. They are easy to wash, just wipe them with a wet cloth and some washing agent.

On the side I felt the road noise decrease slightly after putting these mats.

Thanks

re: 2014 Honda City | My Diesel Rockstar Arrives | EDIT: 10 years completed and running strong

It has been more than a year since the last update on my thread. I have been using the City as my Highway vehicle these days and using my other car the Ignis AMT for city runabouts. ODO is at about 43,100 kms.

The car is doing fine with no major issues. During a recent Service the SA pointed out that the Battery is weak and would need to be replaced. Told him I would do it on my own and asked him to leave it as is.

Consulted few articles on teambhp and found that the CarBatteryExpert website provides a good pricing. Logged on to CarBatteryExpert.com - URL and checked the pricing. Compared with local vendors nearby and found that they were offering the best deal. I called the number provided on the website and they said the delivery would happen within 3-4 hours and that I could do Cash on Delivery. No one called and I did not hear from them after that phone call. I called again the next morning and they apologized and said someone from Bangalore would call me. The Bangalore contact person called me and fixed up the appointment. I asked him the Date on the Battery and he confirmed that it was Oct 2017 and fresh stock. Gave the green signal. The guys came on a two wheeler and installed the battery.

At the time of change the battery done about 3 years and 11 months. I did not wait for it to fail and this was a proactive change based on input from the authorized service center. Enclosed is the pictorial details of the Battery change.

The whole replacement activity took them about 30 minutes. Happy with the overall experience with CarBatteryExpert.com. The older battery had the provision to fill distilled water. The new one from Amaron is a 100% maintenance free battery and does not require any refill of distilled water. The guy who had come to install did say that his shop was in LalBagh road and if anyone calls him directly he can possibly provide an additional discount of Rs.250/- as compared to the CarBatteryExpert.com Website. Refer the image of the bill for details of the shop for people in Bangalore.

Thanks for reading my post - happy motoring

Honda City - Low Beam Upgrade to Lasfit Dual Color LED

I had upgraded the Low Beam on my 2014 City in late 2014 with Osram NBUs. More details regarding the same are available here: URL

I decided to change these to LED this time round. A friend of mine was returning from the US and I searched around for some options on Amazon.com USA.

Narrowed down on the LASFIT LED Bulbs which supported Dual Beam which means it has the Yellow Beam as well as the White Beam and one can flip between the two colors. Ordered these in the H11 Model as that is the Low Beam model for the Honda City. Received these from my friend yesterday:

Closer View of the LED Bulbs

The Bulbs are priced at $99.99 and there was a $5 discount at the time of purchase which works out to $94.99 (Approx: Rs.6175/-) for the pair.
The Amazon.com URL for the same can be found here: URL

The reason for choosing the Dual Color LED Bulbs was based on some of the reports related to LED Bulbs which state that the White light is not very effective during bad weather and rainy conditions. This option of being able to flip between the two colors brings in the best of both worlds in being able to use the Yellow Light in Bad Weather and going with the White Lights during normal weather.

Fitting the bulbs was straight forward and I was able to do it myself given the plug and play nature of the installation.

Here is an initial view of the Honda City with the Dual Color LEDs fitted on them:

Comparison of the NBUs with the LASFIT LED Bulbs
Tried some comparison of the NBUs with the LASFIT Bulbs. Here are the results:

Existing NBUs

Lasfit LED White Beam

2014 Honda City | My Diesel Rockstar Arrives | EDIT: 10 years completed and running strong-03_comp_2.jpg
Lasfit LED Yellow Beam

Analysis: The Lasfit LEDs in both colors seem to emit the beam across a larger area given seeing the level of illumination levels on the house in the front. It is very evident that the beam is illuminating objects across a larger area. The question does arise how far will the light travel as it appears to be more of a 360% scattering of the light. For Low Beam scenarios I do not see much of an issue from this behavior.

Comparison of the NBUs with the LASFIT LED Bulbs for Throw
In order to gather some evidence on how the throw works over a distance, I next tried capturing some pictures of the throw of light over a distance. Here are the results from this:

LASFit LED White Beam

2014 Honda City | My Diesel Rockstar Arrives | EDIT: 10 years completed and running strong-03_comp.jpg
LASFit LED Yellow Beam

Analysis:
Here I have a mixed opinion, the Halogen does seem to have a good throw. Despite the more powerful wattage on the LEDs, they seem to match the throw of the LED. If the LEDs were of a lower wattage I think the Halogen Bulb would win the battle easily.

Here is another comparative view of the same three images:

Thanks for reading my thread, do share your opinions. Given this behavior does it make sense to stick to Halogens itself for the High Beams? Do let me know your thoughts...

Also, the Bulbs do have the "Made in China" tag on them although LASFIT claims to be a US Brand. I had messaged some of these photos on a Honda City Whatsapp Group and someone from Delhi claimed that these are available in Delhi in the local market at a lower price. Request people on TeamBHP from Delhi to comment if you have come across these lights at a lower price in Delhi.
