2017 Skoda Octavia vRS: 25,000 kms completed

Even though the car is in recirculating mode it is designed to still take in air from outside. No internal circulation is 100%. Car ACs are designed to pull in a certain amount of external air along with the internal air in recirculation mode.

That has always been my take. Could be wrong though?

A few minutes later, it wasnt as stuffy as it should have been! I could also feel a light breeze inside the car. I put my hands near the AC vents and could definitely feel air coming from there.

The volume of air coming through the AC Vents increased as I sped up. My theory is that while the AC compressor and everything is switched off, there is a simple channel to funnel air from outside the car into the car's cabin through the vents. I doubt it's just air from the engine bay too as that air would be very hot. However the temperature of the air coming out of the vents was very close to the outside temperature.

I have never experienced this feature in my other car, the Civic. I wonder if all European cars have this? Can anyone check and confirm?
Funnily enough, since my RS was cancelled and the BMW upgrade was some way away, i decided to go in for a pocket rocket in the mean time and booked a Polo GT.

While casually browsing aliexpress for things i can do for the car, i came across this..

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/air-...ceBeautifyAB=0

It seems euro cars do have this feature to let the air into the cabin. Maybe your RS has the same.

No, not necessarily - this depends on manual AC or automatic, and algorithms in the car. Both my Superb and my wife's Ritz will keep on accumulating CO2 if in full recirculation (regardless of whether it is taking little amounts of fresh air in). Need to test over more driver, though.
I believe Maruti even recommends recirculation for city drives, and fresh air mode for highways - I guess it assumes that city drives will be shorter (<=1 hour) and in more polluted areas. Its another matter that in BLR, you can spend 2-3 hours in city easily :-(

The best way to flush out the stale air fastest is to roll down one front window and the opposite rear window at speeds above 50 and roll back. Hardly takes 10 seconds and all the stale air will be replaced with fresh air. The downside is the AC has to cool this air to the set temperature. I am OK with this and prefer this way especially on highway drives with 4 ppl on board.

re: 2017 Skoda Octavia vRS 230 | 4 years and 83000 km

My biggest complaint over the past 2 months is that I am simply too busy with work and am unable to go on any long drives. It is driving me crazy and the itch is getting stronger.

Unfortunately, my work requires to me to go far off places and it is not possible to drive the vRS in the short time tht I have! I hope next month is better and I can get back to clocking kilometres on the vRS!

I feel bad looking at the rim damage! Since yours is a diamond cut finish, hard to rectify with touch up paint too. Have to live with it like I am with my BBS SR in matt grey since I was dumb enough to kerb it once. I don't want to mess up the original colour and finish.
Thanks Adi. They did use a pressure wash but they were careful about it. I know the risks of using water in the engine bay. I normally dont do a pressure wash but this time, it was the best way to get the engine bay clean.

Now that the coating has dried, it still looks glossy but it is not sticky to touch.

Another friend also suggested I get the water pump looked into. I will keep the coolant level under observation and if the coolant again starts to drop, I will definitely ask TAFE to look into it.

I am just afraid of them opening up my car. So, I would like to avoid it for as long as possible.

That's what i found in my Superb (the Climatronic seems to have some issues also) - and I am measuring this with an air pollution meter. So, you should alternate between fresh air and recirculation.
There is a setting in the HU to allow the Climatronic to "auto-recirculate" but this failed to work on my Superb - CO2 levels reached above 5000ppm. I haven't done long drives (due to work and other topics), so still observing the behavior.

PS - CO2 above 2000ppm is undesirable, and much above that can cause drowsiness, fatigue, headache etc ...
Thanks buddy. However, in the vRS, there is an "Air Care" mode that draws in fresh air from time to time.

Also, thanks to our highways, we have to roll down our windows every 50 kms or so thanks to toll booths, so fresh air always enters at those times. Plus, I anyway stop once in 200 kms or so for a short bio break. Again, more opportunity for fresh air to enter.

But your advice is good and on point.

You're welcome. AirCare function actually removes RSPM (2.5um and 10um etc) particles including pollen, dust, soot, bio-particles from inside the car - when it does this, the CO2 level rises as all air inside the cabin is recirculated through the pollen filters, I am assuming. So, it does clean the air of RSPM, but CO2 will not reduce, rather go up. Also, its not worthwhile to keep Aircare running for long (in my judgement) because pretty soon RSPM reaches close to 0ppm, so nothing to be gained in sending such air continually through the filter ...

It seems you get both premix and concentrate. G013A8JM1 is concentrate. G013040M2 is premix.

Tip for next time. after you're done with the entire wash, clean it by moving regular hose water over the surface slowly. should remove most of the water without even wiping.

Playing around with my new camera today and I clicked this pic!

I really liked the final result of some random clicks!

Unfortunately compressing it to fit on TBHP's servers really ruins the picture!

Also, just some assorted pictures taken post a nice wash session. Below pics courtesy of an iPhone.

And another screenshot of a slightly longish drive on NICE Road.
