Re: My Maruti Baleno 1.2L Alpha - A Journey of Ups & Downs

Came across few Baleno owners who faced tyre burst in Baleno. Current Baleno gets Apollo Alnac 4g. Many are saying tyre bursted within two years of ownership and some are saying that they noticed cracks or bubbles on tyres within a few months. I found this issue in a Facebook group of baleno owners club, India. Apollo seems to be not listening to customers. They are ignoring these issues. Instead of providing solution, they're blaming customers for their driving. Maruti, in most cases, changed tyres as a good will gesture or offered to pay 50% cost.

My Figo also has Apollo Alnac 4g and I've completed 22k kms but never faced any such problem. The only thing that I don't like about them is that at high speeds, there is a lot of tyre noise filtering inside the cabin. I'm going to upgrade to a new car within a few months and I've TDed the Baleno MT petrol few weeks back. I liked most of the car but as I had not heard about tyre bursts till then I didn't ask RM about it.

My questions are:
  1. Baleno owners, have you also faced tyre issues in your Baleno? If yes, what was the solution provided by Maruti?
  2. If I book Baleno and ask RM to change tyres, is this done free of cost? I mean, shall I get exchange from dealership itself without paying extra?
  3. Do you suggest changing tyres on a new Baleno? If yes, then what are better options other than stock Apollos?

P.S.: I don't know at this moment if I'll buy Baleno or not because I've scheduled Figo TD for next week followed by Amaze and Nexon. I'll be checking out these cars to understand which is the best buy for me.

@HighWayMan, sorry buddy checked your message late and couldn't inform you in time. We did finish it last week. For the next drive meetup, I'll surely inform you in advance.

1) I personally didn't face any issues with stock Apollo tyres (clocked 22k km so far), but many other Baleno owners complained about bubble issues and side-wall cuts. Solution was on a case-to-case basis. It depended on several factors like manufacturing date, no. of kms driven etc. A few members got 100% replacement of tyres under goodwill warranty and a few got 25% to 75%. Most of the owners, whose Baleno was more than a year old and / or clocked more than 10K kms, did not succeed in getting free replacement under warranty (as far as I know).

2) No, there is no such option.

3) Again, it's a personal choice. As I said, I didn't face any issues. The only problem with them is road noise tend to seep into the cabin. IMO, good dampening can solve this. If you want to change stock tyres then I'd suggest Yokohama Earth-1 series. Heard good reviews from fellow Baleno owners.

Re: My Maruti Baleno 1.2L Alpha - A Journey of Ups & Downs

Fifth service (30K km service) done at only 22769 km as my car had an underbelly hit just 3 days before the (Summer drive to Hampi, Dandeli, Murdeshwar & Goa in two Balenos). So got it checked at Kalyani Nexa in Karmanghat, and also asked them to do servicing so as to make sure everything's fine during journey.

Luckily, no damage to underbody:

I happened to be reading the Maruti Service is cheap thread before reading yours and noticed that they have charged you Rs 50 for caliper assembly greasing. From what I understood of the Maruti Service is cheap thread, this should not be charged extra and is part of the consumables that are included in the service cost. You can browse through the last few pages of the thread for more information. Even if its 'just Rs 50', its your hard earned money. I'll suggest you talk to your service advisor or drop a note to Maruti to clarify on this.

I think consumables are to be borne by customers only, even in free service also. Please provide me the link of the thread that you are referring.

Spoke to service advisor, and he told me that greasing of calipers is done for every 10K km and is chargeable. He also told me that they'll charge Rs.600/- (labour charges) for checking the calipers and greasing. But if done as part of regular servicing, the same is exempted. I've checked a few Baleno friends' invoices to confirm this and it is mentioned albeit a bit differently. I'll have a word with RKS GM (where I give my car for servicing regularly) over this matter.

Hello,

I guess I've spotted your car many times at Habsiguda area.BTW,impressive review from your side and at the same time,I felt sad when your Baleno was the victim of waterlogging when the car was new. But,anyways, your review on Baleno is impressive.

BTW,I stay at Tarnaka and regularly come to Habsiguda area.

Thank you for your post. I am planning to change the bulbs on my Baleno fog lamps as the stock ones are useless. I am a complete noob here. I see you have fitted H11 bulb, but the stock is H8 socket. Are these compatible?

Also which one to go for Fanless or fan based LED bulbs?

Any other recommendations regarding watt, colour temp (6000k, 6500k) and brands etc?

How about these ? Looks like it is not fan based.
