Thanks ashish. Things are having a precarious scenario here with the spread of this dreaded disease. But with god's grace all well till now.

Another month of lockdown went by and the car spent most of the time in the basement parking.

Over the weekends, I took him out for grocery runs and while at it, took a longer route back home to ensure a 10-20 km run.

Today was special. So we took some time out and went for longer drive. Started early and headed to the nearest highway. After some time, stopped for delicious puri sabzi breakfast at a roadside Maruti van eatery. The drive was more of a relaxed cruise but few bursts of speed and of course, the Bangalore city traffic which is back to showcasing their strength.

While on the highway, I saw a souped up a Porsche Cayman S, a Merc C63 AMG, a Skoda vRS, a RR Vogue and a souped up Octavia. No pics as I was driving and my wife couldn't care less!

Some pics of the day. Excuse the dirty car, it was washed a little more than 2 months ago and then dusted once today before the drive.

Last week, on a single day, I encountered two road rage incidents but no fault of mine. Luckily, I kept my cool and and the incidents got diffused. But that day, I felt the need for PROOF.

I was planning on getting one and hence, it was bucket list (along with couple of other things). My wife had asked me what gift I wanted for our anniversary and so I asked her to check-out these items.

That inflator is excellent, but do check once if the maximum power rating of the inflator is less than the combined ratings of all 12V ports in your car. For example I have seen some very nice inflators in market, but in MSIL cars they recommend a total of 120W whereas those inflators were around the 150W mark. Some don't even reveal their power ratings.



When used, either they blow off the fuse immediately or cause some issue in the long run(have even come across wires with molten insulation/molten fuse box base.

Hence I'm sticking to the average MGA inflators. They are noisy but do the job.

Good call out there!

While I couldn't find the power rating on the box, the user guide inside says 120W. Compatible with the 12V outlet in my car.

So, I put the inflator to use. Topped up two front wheels, for trial sake and inflator did its job while powered from the 12V socket. It was already dark, after installing the dashcam and hence, I put off the remaining tyre checks for later. No pics too, for the same reason.


I plan to get the 5th service done this week and I hope I can keep my word this time!

Finally got the 5th service done yesterday @Epitome Kia, Whitefield. Booked the service a day in advance and reached the spot by 8:30am. While they wanted me to leave the car and collect it by 4pm, I insisted on staying back. Finally, I got the car by 1:30pm.





The wiper rubbers were found to be hard and were replaced. The older set had come from factory and lasted 1.5 years.

One of the holding threads of the rear parcel tray was broken in Dec '19. Since the spare wasn't available, the service center in Hyderabad had done a nice jugaad fix. Yesterday, during the inspection of the car, they found the jugaad fix and offered to replace the thread with a new one.

Overall, I am happy that they're paying attention to detail.

The total bill was 10790.



There was an ECU update available for the diesel engine. They applied it (takes ~30-40 mins for the update). I have shared my initial experience, post the update, on the below post. Once I drive more, I can confirm my findings.

Only complaint, the quality of waterless wash which is inadequate to clean a mud covered car. And while cleaning the interior, they had removed the dashcam wiring. I fixed it temporarily but will have to redo again today.

I noticed it while the SA was creating the job card but I let it remain as I felt the AC could do with some cleaning.

Back from a 1700km drive. Drove down to Hyderabad over the weekend. And then onto to Vijayawada and back to Bangalore today.

Few issues and observations during the trip which I will jot down over the weekend.

Vibrations!

During the last drive, I noticed a mild vibration creeping onto the steering at high speed though the car remains stable without any pulling.

While braking at high speeds, again I could feel some vibrations on the brake pedal. Brake bite itself has been very good. During the last service, the service center had performed brake bleeding, tyre rotation and alignment. One of this should be the culprit. Will get it checked again.


Water seepage

During this trip, I drove through a lot of rain - 2 hours of drizzle on Day 1, 2 hours of pouring rain on Day 2, few city drives and finally, 9 hours of light rains on Day 5. On this last day, I noticed some water drops seeping into the driver side through the weather beading on the door. Altogether, I must have seen 10-15 small drops of water come in over the 9 hr drive.

With every wiper sweep, the water is pushed to the end of the windshield, which then flows over the A pillar onto the side window and roof. Due to wind blast, this water is pushed into the door. This never occurred earlier.

Though the seepage was less, the beading will need to be replaced probably.

All that rain and muck has made my Coyote a single tone car - all grey!!

Imbalanced Tires: If you face vibrations at speeds in excess of 80-90Kmph. The vibrations would vanish below these speeds or above higher speeds too. This has no relation with your brakes.

Uneven Disc/Rotor wear: You will experience vibrations, including the brake pedal whenever you brake at highway cruising speeds (100-120kmph) and the vibrations would vanish when you release your leg off the brake pedal.

Bent Rim: Certain times, even a bent rim can result in vibrations both during regular driving and during braking but this should be the last possibility. You could get this checked by putting the car on a ramp and check for any bends on the inside and if you find any, get them swapped and test.

Uneven tire wear:This will result in more of a wobble than vibration and more precisely at lower speeds. You can actually test this at a basement or a flat parking area at speeds less than 20 kmph and the wheel wobble can be felt on the footwell area as you rest your leg and also the steering wheel would tilt left and right in sync when you take your hands off. However, this will not cause vibrations at highway driving speeds.

Loose linkages/fasteners related to steering and suspension: Perhaps one of the other reasons if you are unable to isolate the above. Get the fasteners for lower arms, link rods, stabilizer bar bushings checked.

To me, It looks like a simple problem related to imbalanced wheels.

Thank you, Parag. Even I suspect the imbalanced tyres BUT, the vibration is higher during braking. Which points towards uneven disc/rotor wear. I had no such complaints before the service and makes me wonder how those can go bad within 50 kms of driving (post service). Let's see what the service center finds out.

I had three complaints since the last service -

1. Juddering which applying brakes at speed

2. Juddering of the driver side wiper, again at high speed only (butter smooth otherwise!)

3. A minor seepage on the driver door through weather beading

So I paid a visit to Epitome KIA last week and explained these issues. The service advisor and the Manager listened and then requested to drop the car for a couple of days so they can diagnose. That day I couldn't dispense with the car (it's my only ride) and so, they arranged for a pick-up from home in a couple of days.

Since Coyote was going away, I thought this was an opportune moment to take care of his dent too. 5 days and Rs.10,047 later, Coyote is back.

I went yesterday to pick it up myself. While waiting, I found this Seltos hoisted and was surprised to see the limited travel of the rear suspension


My service advisor, Yashvanth explained the work they had done. The brakes had been reopened and cleaned up thoroughly. Incidentally, the KIA Technical team was visiting their workshop the same day and they verified it too. They took two trial runs and found nothing amiss.

For the wiper, they adjusted the arm and mentioned the issue has been resolved. And for the water seepage, they have added 'tubes' under the beading. This seems to be a known issue as KIA provides these upgrades.

All these work and the home pick-up was free of cost, I was given a zero bill. I have been asked to drive again and report if the issue persists. I even received a follow-up call from my service advisor if I got a chance to take a long test drive.

The 10k was all denting and painting charges.

So how was the paint work?

At first look, the paint work was good but the clean up was bad. I identified several spots of overspray. Pissed off, I gave them an earful. The paint booth in charge immediately acknowledged the issue and asked his team to clean them thoroughly. Took them 30 mins but they did a good job.

The moment they were done, it started pouring and car was dirty by the time I was home.

Today, I did a round of waterless wash and took it to an open space to have a clear view. Paint match is good.
