Re: Solving the alignment issue on my Rapid

I do not think that is true. If the wheel is well balanced in the first place, then by definition of that, all the rotational forces are equally distributed around the center of the wheel, and when the wheel rotates there are no out of balance forces anywhere! Then the change in angular position when you put the wheel on different wheel nuts will not change this. You can remove the wheel, and put back on different nuts (slight change in angular position) and the balancing would still be intact because the distribution of mass around the center of the wheel is not changed!

When you do need balancing again is when the distribution of mass around the center of the wheel is changed noticeably, and not merely because of the change in angular position of the wheel. The former happens when you buy a new tyre, or if the wheel gets bent or damaged, or if the balancing weights fall off, if the tyre gets damaged and developed noticeable bulges, or you add any noticeable weights like TPMS sensors.

P.S. In fact, the direct evidence in support of what I say is that when the wheel is balanced, it is balanced with no specific correlation to which nuts it goes on, and it is arbitrarily mounted on the nuts with no specific attention to specific nut positions, and that balancing still remains intact. By that same logic, if you merely remove it and mount on different nuts (merely a chance in angular position with no change in mass distribution around the center of the wheel), the balancing will still hold as in the first place!

re: Life with a Skoda Rapid DSG | 6 years & 110,000 km review

Leave the after service story aside, we have all been used to these horror stories. Skoda should at least hire someone competent to respond to emails without grammar/punctuation mistakes. I can't imagine how that email was even sent before someone in the higher ups proof read it. Or was it someone really senior that sent out the email?

re: Life with a Skoda Rapid DSG | 6 years & 110,000 km review

My Heisenberg is munching miles for breakfast, this month alone, we have done 5000kms. 1500kms were done by my dad on solo trips to Bastar, who by the way is 60 years young. As of 26th December, I have dropped my car for 1.1L kms service, I was expecting to get the car back today but they will keep it for a day. Following work are to be carried-
  • General service and check-up
  • Coolant is becoming black again, I got the water pump, coolant flush done few months ago
  • Paint is peeling from some areas where a denting painting work was carried earlier
  • Some jerks are observed on DSG shifts
  • Rest, the car feels tight to drive and engine is performing flawlessly

My car will get out of warranty soon, so I’m planning to purchase an extended warranty as an insurance for my DSG.

Also, I bought the Service Pack for my diesel Rapid DSG for 18k, which is a bargain I feel. The last time it was 19.5k, they have reduced the price by removing some items. If I get it serviced without the SMP, it will easily cost me 13-14k but with the SMP one service costs 9k, which is a very good price considering it’s a Skoda, a diesel plus the service interval is 15k. I will keep the post updated and hopefully they keep good care of my car unlike the previous times.

Don't even think twice grab the warranty as long it is available, most of the experienced members in here will tell the same

The reason I would not recommend the service pack is because I would change air filter and fuel filter at every 15000km which they don't in each one, they do so on the even number service.
Also, would highly recommend getting extended warranty as your clutch pack and mechatronics would be covered, even if not completely, but would save you a packet eventually.

I'm confident extended warranty would not cover DSG, I would suggest confirming this with your service advisor (get it in written [even better]) .

Life with a Skoda Rapid DSG | 8th Service at 1.1L kms

Dear fellow enthusiasts, as informed in the previous post, my car went for the 8th service. Lately, I have been using my Rapid as my daily and I did 15,000kms in the last 7 months itself, the Czech beauty is definitely seeing some good numbers on the road & I’m not complaining, I love being behind the wheels of my TDI beauty. I’m thankful to my stars that I was able to buy a diesel car with DSG before the BS6 era kicked in, I would have surely missed on the cheap thrills (read 20kmpl+ mileage even when pushed hard, no dpf or def headache).

Booked the service through call, because the website booking was not working, and also there was some confusion on the date & I finally got the appointment after a week for 26th December 2024. The car was returned to me on 30th December 2024, in the mean time, I also bought the service pack/SMP for just 18k, a bargain if you ask me as a Skoda owner. I also wanted to buy the extended warranty but the staff told me that the server is down/its not taking input for my car. I shall get this soon, I don’t want to risk with DSG shenanigans. The following work was carried-
  • General service, in Skoda parlance- 8th service
  • Rear left door painting because of some paint defects
  • Coolant flushed again, the last time I got it flushed few months back but the coolant was again turning black
  • Brake fluid was replaced, I don’t exactly remember the last time I changed it, must have been a very long time
  • DSG calibrations, this has made the gearshifts really smooth, earlier it felt jerky

I’m happy with the quality of the service this time, I know a lot of faces in the workshop now and they ensured that utmost care is taken for my car and they did everything to my satisfaction, e.g. initially they said the coolant seems fine but they still went ahead with the flush, it was a normal water flush though, the last time we did the flush with the kit and also I must mention the paint job, the paint match is incredible, the door doesn’t look like it is re-painted at all. 5 days is a long time for a car to stay in the workshop but considering there was a Sunday in between & also the quality of work was good, I’m perfectly fine with it. The total payment I made was Rs 18078 for the SMP & Rs 322 for the air filter, as air filter & fuel filter was not covered, it will be replaced the next time under SMP. Here are a couple of pictures clicked by the staff-

I actually went ahead with the service pack purchase because there were some discounts going on. I got the filter changed, it hardly cost Rs 322 & also brake fluid was changed under the SMP. As you said so, the logic with filters is beyond my comprehension, they do it sometimes & the other times they don’t.

I discussed it with my service team & they had to say that if Mechatronic fails, then it would be definitely covered under extended warranty. Also, one of my known got the mechatronic error in his 2019 Octavia 1.8 TSI equipped with DQ200, his car was out of warranty, yet, Skoda offered him goodwill warranty & covered 60% of the costs of the repair.
