Thank you. I ll try out Suraksha as they are closer to my work place.
My Swift is completing 2 yrs today. A brief ownership update:
Model: Swift Ldi
ODO reading: 31424km
Average Monthly running: 1309
Average FE: 17.3
Tyres: 185/70/R14 Bridgestone Turanza on stock steel rims (stock tyres were replaced at 14k on ODO)
Most of the running was between Ernakulam and Thrissur with some occassional trips to Tvm, Calicut, Munnar, Thirunelly, Idukki etc.
Service history:
Regular service + Engine oil and filter replaced at evey 5k.
Struts overhaul and bush replacement at 25k
Steering rack plunger replaced under warranty at 30k
Partial tyre wear due to incorrect Wheel Alignment by MASS. One tyre badly worn out.
Likes:
Excellent driver's car with great reliability.
Reasonable FE even when driven hard or through some of the worst roads/traffic conditions.
Comfortable front seats.
Dislikes:
Poor build quality and endless rattles.
Very hard ride - especially over poor/uneven roads. Not good for rear passengers and elderly people.
Increasing service costs and inconsistent service quality by MASS.
My 2010 swift VDI will turn a year old by mid of august(total km done 10k).Off late i am seeing excess black smoke.I am aware that under hard acceleration all crdi engines emit black smoke, but in my case i find it a wee bit more than normal.I recently got the third sevice done, where the svc replaced the engine oil with oil filter and the air filter(so a case of choked air filter can be ruled out).Any specific reason as to why this is happening?Could the diesel filter be the culprit, where its supplying more diesel than required?
please: Help.
What fuel are you using ? Normal or Premium ?

Hi All,
I own a 2 yr old swift vdi, i want to fit vaccum gauge on A pillar, as of now i have oil temperature and volt meter, i want to know where i'm suppose to connect the vaccum pipe in ddis, any inputs will be much valued. mechanic from one of the famous place in indiranagar has screwed up by punching a hole in air filter box imagining that will help in sucking the air. please help

Could be case of adulterated fuel. Try filling fuel from a different gas station. Since you rule out air filter clogging possibility, the fuel quality seems to be the culprit here.

Do you drive loads in city? Try doing some long runs sometime the particles get deposited due to slow speed driving which comes out under heavy acceleration. Also there is no point mashing the pedal for acceleration, rather it has to be modulated as the engine responds. This can considerably reduce the black smoke in your rear view mirror. Right gear also matters.
But do check fuel quality. Normal diesel from a reputed COCO pump is the best. I am sticking to IOC for years now.

jaggu,my dad usually takes the car for office commuting(25km in city). He normally doesent do above 50.So the particle deposition theory holds true.I have been taking the car to office now since last two weeks(60 km commuting,40%city,60% highway). On highways i touch around 100.Incidently from past two days i am seeing lesser smoke emission, and moreover i feel the car has become more peppier. So this further supports your theory. Thanks for the reply.
HI Jaggu,
My cousin has swift ldi purchased 1 month back. He says that his car is giving very low mileage of 10kmpl. He tried diff fuel stations, no luck. Also the dealer(pratham) support at first service was unsatisfactory. Hence require your inputs on the same.

10 is really low, hope your cousin is not a new driver. If he is unhappy with the current dealer take it to another dealer. Mandovi at JP Nagar is quite good.
I recently got the 50K service for my Swift VDI 2007 done at Mandovi Motors, Wilson Garden. With lots of talk going about EGR valve cleaning in this thread I was hell bent on getting this done as this job was never carried out previously on my car. Also asked them to get the Engine decarbonized. Its not a mix it in the engine oil and run the engine thingie, but they actually hook up something to the injectors and run the engine for some time. Also front suspension noises slightly with poor braking had me convinced this service was going to make my wallet much lighter than the regular service.
After delivering the car to the Service Station I was promptly called around noon with the diagnosis.
Worn out front suspension and brake pads. Estimate of about 10k for both these jobs. I gave the go ahead. Also reminded them of EGR cleaning. Was told its going to take about 3 days for them to finish the work the deliver the vehicle back to me. Gave the go ahead.
Got the car back by afternoon on the 3rd day. The front suspension noise is gone and the ride over bumps is smooth with no rattle. Acceleration improved I guess due to the EGR being cleaned and also the engine decarbonized. Brake bite is better but was told I have to run the car for couple of hundred kms for the pads to work efficiently. The engine did sound much louder, I think due to decarbonizing. The car was cleaned very well and I would rate the work 7 out of 10. Following is the cost I want to share in case Swift D owners have an approx estimate in case they plan to get a similar job done.

Total Bill came up to 14k after service tax.:Shockked:
But in the end I expected this kind of bill and was completely satisified with the job done by Mandovi Motors, Wilson Garden.
The car has had a fair bit of abuse over bad highways, but makes me think about whats the fuss about Rally Based Suspension design in the Swift compared to other cars which end up with same suspension job around the same 50k kms??
EDIT:
Next day after the service at Mandovi Motors I had a planned run to Alleppey. The handling of the car was much better and the brand new ER60s added to the superb handling over dry and wet. Nearing Coimbatore, with lots of deviations at Avinashi the Hand Brake Light (Brake System Warning Light) on the dashboard started turning ON intermittently even with the handbrake disengaged. After 50 - 60kms the light was ON steady on the dashboard. Headed up to the nearest Maruti SS on Coimbatore - Avinashi road and issue was diagnosed as almost empty Brake Fluid level. The Brake fluid reservoir drank almost 3/4 of the 250ml can of DOT4 fluid. I guess the guys as Mandovi forgot to top up the brake fluid after fiddling around with the front and rear brakes. Well the Hand Brake turning ON gave me a temporary scare..

Do you have extended 4 year warranty? If yes you should have demanded warranty replacement for all your suspension related parts

Do we need to do the above things? I have never opted for these. Completed 70 K service in May 11
I have a Swift Ldi (2010) and plan on taking it to some remote areas in northern Himachal. I know nothing more than cleaning the air filter of my car. I'd read a lot about people carrying spares for their vehicle when going to remote areas for a long time. However I didn't want to over-prepare by carrying spares that I wouldn't be able to change hence my question.
As of now I only plan on carrying 2 fuses (each type), screwdriver/plier etc. and a tubeless tyre puncture repair kit. My swift has done 23k on the odo, anything else that I must carry in case there's some trouble.
^^ Sufficiently strong rope for towing the vehicle, cable for jump-starting the vehicle, extra headlight lamps and though not a tool but a bottle of System D helps to counter the problem of low quality diesel somewhat.
