1. Is it needed to get the EGR cleaned. I always change the engine oil after every 5k kms .
2. Engine flush before oil changes?
Im kinda confused with the same so wanted to get it confirmed .
Also please suggested if any other things needs to be done or checked .
My suspension also need to checked as the ride has become really harsh and also there is a thud sound which come if i go over any broken road or anything of that kind,so is there any thing which i have to ask the SA to check specially .
Please advise.

- Regarding EGR, please read my posts #2427 and #2418 above. My recommendation is to do EGR cleaning only when there is a DTC regarding EGR Flow.
- Engine oil needs to be changed every 10,000 km. There is nothing to be gained by doing it every 5,000 km unless your car's running is very less (less than 7,000 km per year, approximately). In your case, where running is around 15,000 km per year, you should stick to the Maintenance Schedule specified by Maruti and change oil every 10,000 km.
- Engine flush before oil change is not required, IMHO.
- Suspension needs to be checked by MASS. It is possible that the rubber-metallic bushes on top of front suspension struts need to be replaced.

Yes, EGR needs cleaning. It does not depend on the frequency of oil change.
However, regular oil changes means that an engine flush is not required.
The thud sound looks like a strut / bush problem. Get it checked. If you have extended warranty, both will be covered.
Folks - Whats the effect of siwtching between Mineral and synthetic oil back and forth? Is it something which can be done or is it not advisable? Am currently using synthetic and want to switch back to my regular Delvax MX 15w40 for my swift. Please let me know.

Not much of an issue, apart from loosing a bit of refinement (depending on the type/grade you use later). But ideally avoid shifting too many times since there are other internal items like oil seal that "MAY" not tolerate it well. As well as shifting to synthetic after many kms is not advised, since it "MAY" cause leak at oil seals.
After lot of thought i decided to stick to Mineral Delvac MX with 5k change, which has given me good service for last 65xxx kms or so. Comparatively cheaper also, to synthetics.

Thanks jaggu, the reason being am unable to source delvac mx 15w40, don't know where to get it hence had used synthetic oil last time during service. Otherwise mineral oil has been the regular brew for my swift and I want to go back to that during my 60k service which is due. I guess engine flush has to be done right?
I talked to Bimal motors in Whitefield about the 40k service for my swift. He mentioned that the labor charges will be around 1100rs, not including any brake overhaul/EGR cleaning etc, which I'm not going to get anyway. Are the labor charges reasonable? Any feedback about this dealer in particular?
Did 45000 kms service yesterday. Although the complaints were rectified, the service in general was pathetic.
Here's what went wrong.
1) Since I was busy in office, I had asked them to pick up my car from office at 9.30 sharp since I had to go out of city at 6pm. Numerous calls from their end to locate my office (which is right in the center of the city). Finally the service technician came to my office at 11am. He just wanted to run off with the car without even asking whether I had any complaints with the car. Finally reported all the complaints and he went around the car checking to see if there were any dents, scratches. I told him there's a big dent on the right fender which he noted.
2) Reached the service station at 4.45 and they asked me to come for the test drive. I had problems with the shocks for which I spent countless cash everytime I service. I asked them the reason why I need to spend atleast 1.5k for the shocks alone for each service. He said that Swift Diesel shocks have these complaints. I was like:Shockked:.
3) He asked me to wait for a while since polishing was left. I had to wait for 45 mins to get the car.
4) They wanted to push me off but then I noticed this huge dent and scratch on the right door near the fender. I asked him the reason for this. He said it was already there. I pointed the dent which was already there on the fender and told him to explain this new dent. He was speechless. He asked me he will repair it on monday.
5) Polishing was done for the namesake. There were hand prints all over the glass and on the interior. I had to clean this when I reached home.
Total Cost - 5300/- including tax
Terribly disapointed with the service. I was impressed with their service last time but not anymore.
One question - why are the rates so high now. There's a vento and Verna in my garage and I feel they are quite reasonable considering the results. It's high time I find a good reliable service station, probably a non maruti service station.

Naveen.
5k+ for 45k service which itself not a necessary one as per Maruti.
Could you please give a breakup of the service?
Whenever I go for the oil change every 5k kms I pay around 1.3k, so not sure why they charged you 5k + for the same.
I also got my 40k service done for my Ritz and the bill came Rs 10881.
The bill was on the higher side mostly due to labour charges which I needed to pay for getting the suspensions and the steering sorted out, there was some play in the steering and the suspension had become super stiff.
While fixing the steering they had to do the wheel alignment also.
The front brake pads also need to be replaced.
I compared the bill with my 20k service and found that for the 40k service the labour charges were itself 5k +
So I guess that's fine.
Could you please let us know more about the suspension issue that you are facing?
Cheers

Apart from the suspension and steering system repair job what could be the bill to be paid?
Naveen must be getting synthetic oil added so each litre of oil is 960 bucks so for 3 litres it comes to 3000. Labour + VAT and all left over taxes the bill could be near about 5K (Correct me if I'm wrong).

The regular 40K service bill which includes change of all fluids etc and regular service should be between 6.5 to 7k , 20/40/60 etc are major service, so the labour charges are higher than the regular service, so the bill comes abit on the higher side.
Not sure if Naveen switched to synthetic recently , see his 40k service breakup below.

I know dude. This is way too much. Verna and Vento in the garage averages around 3k for the service and why so much for maruti. I reported this to maruti and the local service station is facing the heat now. They will take my car tomo for repairs and provide me with a spare vehicle for couple of days (as told by the SA).
The suspension problem is mainly due to the fact that I use low profile tyres and when driving on bad roads I feel that cars got no shocks. But why this happens after every 4k-5k KMS? I service the shocks each and every time (check my previous service history). I told this to the SA and he said Swift Diesel got this problem. I dont know what he meant but told him that kindly have a look at the sticker on the rear bumper and talk (GOT BHP sticker).
Anyways, here's the break up.
Part Number, Description, Quantity, Amount
41710M75J30, Support Comp Front Strut, 2, 460.72
42431M75J10, Mount Front Stabilizer, 2, 32.72
90900M10151, Noise Suppressor Sheet, 2, 70.48
99000M25020, Grease caliper assy, 2, 56.38
Now comes the best part
LABOUR
1) Paid Service - 935
2) Drum Brakes cleaning - 345
3) Disc Brakes cleaning - 360
4) Vehicle washing and cleaning - FREE (pathetic)
5) Body Polishing - FREE (wasnt polishing, it can be called oil massage)
6) Front suspension arm both side R&R - 465

8) EGR valve and gasket R&R - 500
9) Gear lever bush lubrication - 365

Anshurao,
1. Go to Basha Wheel Alignment - near Thom's Bakery. Meet with the gentlemen called Aman Basha (9342828093 - dont know if its obsolete)- and he'll have your front left suspension removed and centered to take care of the problem. No references needed.
OR
2. Replace that front left suspension with a new piece from Maruti.
I had a similar problem of uneven wear on both my left tyres- they were wearing out only on the outside while the right-side tyres were fine.
This took care of the issue permanently. Vasu of SAG put me onto Aman Basha. |
Have been facing this problem for quite some time now and was at my wits end! I was going to give my car for service at Mandovi, JP Nagar tomorrow and ask them to fix it. Thanks to your post, I know where to go to if Mandovi isnt able to resolve this. One question though, Would Basha's Wheel Alignment center be able to do this safely on ABS equipped cars?
This is what they did to my car when I gave for service. They will be taking my car today for repair. I guess the complaint sent to Maruti did shake the SA. He apologized for the mistake and promised he would repair the damage.
The dent seems small in the picture but it's quite big. Also, the side skirt has some dent too which is not visible in the pic.
I gave my car for service at Mandovi JP Nagar yesterday. The primary complaint was to check the alignment and fix the suspension as I was facing outside edge wear on both tyres on the left side. I also asked to change to synthetic engine oil that is being used in the New Swift, after an engine flush.
Got back the car at 7:30 PM in the evening with total damages of Rs. 8200 (approx). The breakup of the major charges were:
1. Engine Oil (5W40) - Rs. 2572
2. Engine Oil flush - Rs. 786
3. Gear Oil - Rs 790
4. Paid Service - Rs. 1065
5. Stabilizer Joint -Rs. 407
6. Stabilizer Joint Labor - Rs. 240
This was one of the services where I was very unsatisfied. The SA told me that they couldn't check the wheel alignment on my car because I had aftermarket alloys (I have Honda City 14R 6J 100 PCD alloys). I cant imagine a dealer service center saying this! So they just checked the suspension, found the left stabilizer joint to be weak and replaced it but asked me to get wheel alignment done outside. :Frustrati . Just waiting for the online feedback that I get from Maruti to write a stinker on how they can fix suspension problems of the kind I face if they cant check the wheel alignment at their big dealer service centers. So, I essentially spent the entire day without getting any resolution to my suspension problems. Today, I plan to go to Basha Wheel Alignment and get the problem fixed.
On the other hand, can a worn stabilizer joint cause such uneven tread wear?
Our car is due for 40K service, and as such called Mandovi, JP Nagar for the list of items and approximate estimate. I have been told, that the car needs engine oil, gear oil and coolant change and also fuel and diesel filter would be replaced. They quoted around 7K as approx. estimate.
Are all these warranted for 40K service? Is there anything else to look out for?
Is the approx. cost estimate reasonable?
Please advise.
