I had the same problem in my VDi. The complete cluster will be replaced. Cannot say what the cost will be since mine was covered under warranty.

However, you can try and aftermarket electrician / mechanic to see if they can repair. Though I doubt that it can be done.

My 2007 December Swift VDi is having strange problems with its instrument cluster.

I have started noticing that my fuel gauge goes offff the full mark and returns to half tank when almost empty.

The temperature gauge is also showing very high temperature even in the winter mornings even before starting up.

The tacho is also showing approx 200 RPM more than reality.

Can this be fixed or the entire instrument cluster needs to be changed?

How much would be the cost for the instrument cluster?

Also is it possible to fit the new Swift's instrument cluster if I need to change this one?

Will visit my MAAS next week so your inputs would be of great help before December 5, 2012.

You can try Mallikbazar. They sell used instrument clusters from totalled vehicles. Also, I was told that they also repair instrument clusters. But you need a reputed garage other than MASS first.

Not sure if I will try an after market used instrument panel. Also how integrated is the instrument panel with the car's electronics? I worry that a repair attempt to the cluster by a local car electrician can cause havoc to the ECU!!!

Any idea guys how much a new instrument cluster can cost?

I guess you didnt see the previous page. The technician banged my car when I gave it for service. A small dent with few scratches. Gave it for repairs. Got it back few hours back. Will post the pics of the work.

Even I'm planning to go for synthetic next time.

sorry:Naveen.raju

I didn't go to the previous page and read the trouble caused to your car by MASS technician.

So how does the car feel after the body work? Good work or shoddy work? Hope MASS paid for the whole from their pockets.

Anurag.

Yes. Got the car yesterday evening and the work is top notch. I chipped in some cash since I wanted the entire right side and front bumper to be painted. Shall try and post some pics of the work.

Here are the pics after the repairs. Got the right side completely painted and whole car polished. Good work by the MASS this time. I guess the complaint to the head office did shake them.

Car looks neat and without scratches now. Hope you are relieved now seeing the car back in good shape.

You shot a mail to Gurgaon office right? What was their reponse to the mail?

Anurag.

@naveen, did you give it to popular north, next to the hospital as usual? They are know to be quite competent with their work even though their drivers are noobs. They just cant park a park a car properly in my garage.

Yes, it's a lot better now. Especially the handles which were full of scratches. Also got the front bumper painted. Yes, that was where I sent the complaint. They said they will contact the concerned service station and do the needful. Recieved a call from the MASS the next day and said they will pick the car from my office and provide a spare car for the time being (the spare car was crap but glad I had one for 3 days)

Yes, the same place. I started going there from 30,000 kms service. Was completely satisfied with two services but the last one was pathetic. You can see the details in the previous page.

Yes, true about their driving style. lol:

Back in my Swift days, after a service, the car had to go back inside to rectify a small fault we found as we were leaving. The Guindy (Chennai) MAAS is huge, but hardly big enough to contain the number of cars there. The SA drove the car inside, taking us (wife and myself) with it. Really, I was glad I was not driving. There was so little clearance with even hairpin bends being obstructed. This SA did know his driving.

Their paintworkm though, was (later incident) lousy. Like a five-year-old had been given a brush and slapped it on. Wish I'd complained, really, but it's far too late now.

I paid 500 since MASS got it repaired as it was their fault (banged the car during the service). I got the entire right side painted.
I thought that they stick these protectors. I have protectors on the sides and got it painted which is way better than black.

The bumper protectors are screwed type since they always used to come out(had them in my old zen).Currently am planning to take them off.Since the protectors have glue also i have to get the bumpers repainted. Is there any way by which the holes can be filled in?

To fill the holes, I think it will better to leave to the mechanics. They might fill some putty and get it painted. But if you go to MASS they will ask you get the entire bumper painted. Try some local mechanics and ask them to touch that particular area. I had gone to local mechanic previously to get a portion of the bumper painted. They did a good job and cant make the difference.

Guys,

Please have a look at 40K service bill for our VDi at Mandovi, JP Nagar and let me know have i been taken for a ride? If so, would like to take it up with the higher authorities.
