Sigh, your OE tyres lasted 3 times the miles than mine.

Close to impossible to get 225 tyres in India. Switching to 235 gives you lot of options.
Arent Yoko Geo's available in 225 ?

Not in India. The early gen GV came with 225mm tyres, which are not stocked in India.
Hi Samuria
How much would be price of Michelin 235/70/16 that you have mentioned. I guess you have bought a set before ? Do we get discount on MRF / quoted price (I mean never bought expensive tyes, so no idea whether one can bargain )
I guess it wil be somehwere between 7k to 8k and that would mean 40,000 for 5 . If I want to avoid this dent, would you suggest any cheaper tyre (from India companies- but no compromise on safety aspect)?
Thanks
GRV
Two years back Michelin LTX AT2 235/70R16 cost me 6400 per tyre. Not sure about the current price. Same time, the Yokohama Geolandar AT-S 235/75R15 for my Jeep cost me 4800 per tyre.
However, the tyre prices have gone up a lot since then due to the ISI stamp idiocy.
If you want to consider the tread width / foot-print, then the MRF 215/75 R15 may be a close match. It has a wider foot-print than all other 215's

You want him to change his alloys to 15 inch rim, and lose 9mm GC? Not a good idea.
@Samurai, just for calculations sake: he will not lose 9mm of GC, but much lesser.
Circumference of 225/70 R16 = 2175.69 mm. Dia = 692.67 mm
Circumference of 225/75 R15 = 2166.94 mm. Dia = 689.89 mm
Diff in GC = 2.78mm
IMO, 235/70R16 should not be so much of a problem. 10mm increase in cross-section is split evenly between inside & outside, and the GV should have more than 5 mm of clearance on the inside to prevent contact.
With most vehicles, 1 size up is quite safe - and hopefully should work here too.

Since you suggested 215/75R15, shouldn't you be calculating for 215 instead of 225?
I still don't understand why you want him to change the alloys to 15 inch.

I know 235/70R16 is not a problem, both sudev and I are running 235mm on our GVs since two years. That is what I suggested switching to 235mm, it also gives 7mm more GC.
Thanks for really valuable options. I checked Michelin price it is 7200/ per tyre. Samurai, to save money would you recommend buying geolander 235/70 r/16 rather than going for Michelin.
Thanks

I would say go with Geo AT, much better compared to the Michellin's from longevity perspective.
Yes, you will be fine either with Yokohama Geolandar HT-S G051/G052 or Michelin LTX AT2. Avoid Geolandar HT-S G053, that is quite pedestrian. Yes, not all Geolandar HT-S are same. If you don't get the right HT-S, go with Michelin. Remember, you are deciding the tyre for the next 50K kms.
There are other brands too, but I don't have first hand experience with them.

If you want something just for trail driving, the BFG Long Trail TA/KO is quite good.
If you want something for rocks, the Continental Cross contact A/T is a cheaper option to LTX, but its a slightly harder tire.
Have been using it for past 50,000kms on the safari, and its one tough tire!
GRV is specifically looking for highway tyres. That is why I am not suggesting AT. The Michelin AT2 is very road oriented than AT.

Thats why I was suggesting the long Trail TA/KO :)
Its a trail tire. Will do very well on roads, and handle some abuse too!
