Few Things:
1) Is cleaning the catalytic converter a tedious process?
2) My TCIC EX 4x4 2004 (86K on odo) had a sluggish response sometime back but it got solved by engine decarbonizing- 1 hour process and the engine is extremely smooth now.

One query though:
1) How do I know if the clutch plate is up for replacement (Of course wanting to avoid a breakdown on the road)

-AVR

1. No, its recommended atleast once in a year. But give it to a professional.
2. 86k on ODO doesn't need any manual decarB Work. Bardhal or BG is enough.
3. As your Engine RPM increases, your Speedometer should coincide with it. A slipping clutch is a symptom.

Hi Jennifer,

You seem to have great deal of information about Tata spares.
Could you please let me know how different are the Indica V2 parts from the Indica Vista TDi parts? Do they share anything in common or is everything completely different?

Cheers,
Nitin

I am sorry friend, I have nothing to do with TATA.

The information I have posted is only applicable to TATA Safari and its only for a TCIC Vehicle. I have a TCIC Safari and I gained this information from my personal experience as almost all the TCIC part suppliers in chennai like VAS, REC, Gupta, brakesindia, Victory, Arunkumar, Murugan, POOJA, Cool Sales, VST, Manipal, Concorde knows me very well.

Thanks!

Was wondering if 89k is a good time to get the suspension overhauled?
Any comments? Would like to know what things would need to be replaced!

Very informative thread - Ready reckoner for all TCIC owners!

Cheers,

Yes, but its better to check the status of your suspensions first. Do you feel bad while off-roading? Do you get any noise while over steering? Do you feel any slope in the car?

Do not forget to renew your Anti-roll bar bushes (totally 8 pushes) while overhauling suspensions. If you need to change the Tie Rods, prefer Rane. I hope you don't need to overhaul your rear suspensions at 90k.

SUSPENSION & STEERING:

Front Shock Absorber: Rs. 834/each

Shock Absorber Upper Wishbone: 2878/each

Shock Absorber Lower Wishbone: 3828/each

Rear Suspension Spring: 846

Rear Shock Absorber: Rs. 912 (cabriel)

Suspension Lower Ball Joint – 780*2

Suspension Upper Ball Joint – 470*2

SAFARI Front Suspension Kit – 1330

Tie Rod – 850 * 2(Rane), 700*2(Talbros)

Idler Arm with Push – 500 * 2

Idler Arm Push only - 160

Pitman Arm – 500 * 2

Thanks again!

Don't see any issues in offroading yet but I know there are a few creaking sounds in the suspension. Full turn used to be an issue but was resolved.

Had replaced the tie rod 15k back as it had got damaged somehow.

This pricing list should be very helpful.

Then better show the car to a good mechanic. Don't go to the TATA dealer.

Suspension part cant be considered under scheduled maintenance as its completely based on your driving style and road condition. You may need the suspension overhaul even in 50k or it will go upto 1.5k. I have done it around 65k, but TATA recommends it around 50-60k. I advice you to atleast change the complete "Bush Sets" which cost you around 2k with labour and leave or change other parts based on the condition.

Just ask a mechanic to test drive and decide whether you need overhaul and decide the place where to do it.

I agree - The bush set should surely be replaced.
Fortunately, Gujarat thanks to its lovely roads might afford me a longer life for my suspension :)

My Indigo needs a replacement of brake booster assembly. Can you please get me the part num and other details so that I can get it outside of the dealership ? The dealership is quoting 8000 for the same.

I have zero knowledge about Indica/go parts. But for Safari BrakesIndia is the manufacturer for Boosters and the actual cost if 6500 which TATA is selling for 11,500.

If you have any TVS Part Supplier in bangalore you can contact them for booster brakes.

I had a brake booster problem with the Safari but luckily found one for 4000 from a totalled Safari that's worked perfectly since. The cost mentioned by the Dealer is prohibitively expensive.

Is it that the Tata dealer buys it off the part dealer for 6500 and just jacks up the price to 11000?

My 4000 included the labor also!

I don't know how much and where from they are buying. But the company who is manufacturing Safari brake Booster is near to my house and their MRP is around 8500 and they are selling it for 6500 to TVS.

I have an example.I recently brought a head light assy RH for my safari TCIC. The price of it in the showroom is 3086\- incl of taxes but it is 1571/- incl of taxes with a direct dealer of LUMAX i.e., direct from the lumax company.same with other electrical parts of safari. So never buy elctrical items from the company.try finding direct dealers and buy from them.

I agree and I dont recommend any TCIC owners to buy anything from TATA other than the following replacement units:

1. Mascot/Monogram
2. Window Regulator (KAMCO/IFB w/o motor)
3. Timing Belt Cover
4. Rear Axle Bearing Set(TELCO)
5. BRAKE Disc
6. Engine Gasket Set
7. Shock Absorber Wishbone

Almost all other TCIC consumable products are available in better price outside.
