With insurance, the outlay from you should be less.

HUGE BANG - Below the hood - massive impact...
The (TIE??) Rod which connects both the Left - Right
suspension - had Bore the BRUNT of the Impact. It was Bent so much so that I moved at least a feet aback and damaged the Exhaust Manifold.

I had a similar incident with my wagon-r. It was barely few 1000 KM old then and I was a new driver back in 2002. We were returning home from a trip to Konkan via Tamhini Ghat/Mulshi. Four adults in the car. Some truckwalla had left behind a stone (they used to stop the wheel from rolling down on a slope) in the middle of the road in the ghat. I failed to gauge its size from a distance as it was twilight. Banged it! Felt huge shudder and rattle while accelerating, trudged back home slowly. Went to MASS next day- fortunately not much damage. Only the exhaust header pipe had come loose. They connected it back. I am Still running the same exhaust no issues so far (now ~42500).
Plain lucky I guess. clap:

Please ignore the smiley icon. I replied on a cached page from my browser history. After reading the damage suffered by svsantosh, I can empathize with him and feel sad.

Took me some time to understand that you meant 'rip' and not 'RIP' (Rest in Peace).

Happywheels, Vijay, Tanveer, Greenhorn... thx for all your responses.
Back from TASS - things not looking so good... Tanveer was Spot on - the cross member has taken a hit and looks like they need to STRIP the car down to its BONES and weld out the bent cross member and fix a new one... the spares part is Ok (10K~) - the Labour is killing - he is quoting 10K @ least for the entire strip and rebuild process.
I am easily staring at least 5K out of pocket expenses which I think is the price I have to pay for driving in this country...!!!
And the time part is killing too - TASS is quoting 2weeks approx :(
Cant wait to get it back... |
:Frustrati two weeks is a pretty long time man, also the amount you gonna pay is higher, i mean with the insurance claiment, thats higher, keep updating.
Don't worry about costs.
All the parts involved are metal parts. Labour is 100% paid.
So you may end up paying around 1500-2000max.
Ask them no welding the chasis. Whats damaged must be replaced. Crossmember is a cheap part. I had similar damage(tie rod/ball joint/Crossmember) and cost was ~ 3000rs inclusive of everything, however I do not go to TASC for my indica any more.
You have an under warranty vehicle, so go to TASC, and claim everything under insurance.
Also make sure alignment(esp camber) is correct after the replacements.
Often these guys will do alignment hurriedly, and give you the car which leads to premature tire where, which they will obviously not take the blame for.
Camber check is simple, tie something like a heavy key to a thread, and touch the top part of the thread to the top part of the sidewall of the tire. The key will hang, however if its too far from the bottom sidewall, or the tire is bent inwards from the top. there is problem.
Google it up, its simple.
So better check camber yourself, or you will be looking as partially bald useless tires 3000kms down the line

yeah, dont weld the chasis, its to go with replacement and also its alingment which they offten mess up in hurry, so do check it before taking your car back, TSK me neither go to TASC anymore now, as i have felt that they mess up after your warranty is completely and jobs are not done satisfying.
In the indica the front crossmember is not welded to chasis. I guess indigo has different setup, or you bent something else(which is part of chasis)
this is what got bent - the circle is where the impact happened and the entire piece is where the steering system is fixed - i am not sure if this is called the 'cross member', thats what I thought TASC told me.
Update - all work is done below the car, engine, suspension, fixed. Electrical work going on, will take wednesday for the 1st trials on the road.
Nope this is not crossmember, crossmember is an iron rod, it costs around 200rs
yeah as tsk said this is not the crossmember, waiting for your test report.

We have one CS Dicor on forum but the owner has not updated the thread since July 2008. His last activity was on 2nd July 08. I am also waiting to hear from him on his cs Dicor.
Here is his thread:
