No, that's not how EBD works. Foot pressure is immaterial here.

It works in conjunction with the ABS, and the ABS comes into play when there is a considerable amount of foot pressure and that's about it.

EBD varies the braking power provided to each wheel depending upon various parameters, one of them being traction. A wheel with lesser traction gets lesser braking force.

Electronic brakeforce distribution - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You will get more brake force for the same foot pressure at higher speeds. I know this from first hand experience.
This link does not mention speed and loading either. Maybe it's a psychological feeling that it works that way!

Thanks Lambda! Have you posted a review? Would love to read your experience with the S.

Hi DRV3R, thanks for the input. That seems right to me.

Re: Ford Fiesta 1.6 Sport - 1 year and 14,000 km Update

Hello All,

A good friend of mine has moved back to Bangalore from Delhi after 15 years. He has brought his Fiesta 1.6S with him. In fact, last year when he was in Bangalore on a work trip, he met me and told me not to waste time and said "Buy the 1.6S ASAP", and I did!

We met up a few days ago, and here is a sight that will surely warm your hearts!

Fiesta Double Delight front

Fiesta Double Delight rear

Lovely sight, isn't it? Even we were so taken by this sight that we simply stood and admired our cars for several minutes! I took these pics with my Blackberry and they are quite good quality even after re-sizing.

Meanwhile, car update.

Odo reading is 14,300 kms now. 3 services are over and only the routine oils and filters have been changed as per service book. No other running expenses at all.

One tail lamp fused and replaced. No other problem whatsoever.

The driving experience.

Well, what can I say. What a car! It's simply amazing that Ford actually invested huge sums and and sold this at a ridiculously cheap price. Yes, after a year of ownership I say, Rs. 8.5L OTR was A STEAL! Such a pity that they messed up the 2011 Fiesta pricing big time.

There is a 'chicane' on the road to our apartment colony, a 90 deg right, under a railway tunnel, then curving more to the right and suddenly straightening up followed immediately by another 90 deg right. (It is in fact a big 'U' turn with a railway line running overhead in between). The whole piece is less than 100 meters. Sometimes when there's no traffic on any side (like Sunday afternoons) I can do an F1 style ride through the chicane. It simply blows my mind each time I do it. All through the turn I can keep the Duratec screaming. Roll? Err, what's that? Cannot think of doing this in any other sedan in this price bracket I'm sure. Probably need high priced cars like Beemers.

I repeat myself, but can't help it - WHAT A CAR!

Other updates.

Did a few longish drives: Mammalapuram with my wife, Tirupati with friends, Davangere alone on official work.

We are taking her next week to Goa, just my wife and I.

A few screenshots of my GPS for the above trips:

Davangere: This is quite interesting. This is the return leg, DVG to BLR. The first screen shot is from Davangere to CQAL junction at Yeshwanthpur after getting off the Nelamangala expressway. I did 230 kms in just 2:38.

The next shot is the last 20 kms to my apartment, the 20 kms on the ring road from Yeshwantpur to Kasturinagar took 1 hour!

We have realised one disadvantage of the S. It is not suitable for travel with more than two persons. The rear seat is simply not made for long distance. The lack of head/neck restraints coupled with the upright back makes it uncomfortable for long drives. Even the seat back angle can be tolerated, but the lack of neck restraint/head rest kills any chance of anyone wanting to sit there for long. So sadly, the Fiesta S gets the thumbs down whenever we go out on holidays with friends. We end up taking our friends' Scorpio. But when it's just my wife and me, we enjoy it. This car is so totally driver-focused it sacrifices the rear passengers, and you realise this after a while.

Well, I'm not cribbing! So we decided to get ourselves a Scorpio for our group holidays and hope to keep the Fiesta for our own use.

Re: Ford Fiesta 1.6 Sport - 5,000 km Update

Fabulous pics with 2 Fiesta S models lined up! A rare visual treat indeed!

I have a couple of questions:-
  1. Can't the seats be modified to add head-restraints at the rear?
  2. How did you take those pics of the GPS readings?
By the way, your moving average was quite high on one of your trips .

Did you find an error between the speed on the Nuvi vis-a-vis the one displayed on the speedometer. In my case, the GPS showed 150 kmph when the speedo was at 160 kmph.

Absolutely!

The seat is fixed permanently to the back and does not allow modification I was told. Although I'm sure if I try some of the specialist upholsterers they would probably be able to do it. But frankly, I haven't tried. I like the original seat covering fabric very much (it's very good quality and 'breathes' very well in our climate) so I don't want to mess with it. Besides, I like my cars to be as original as possible!

Actually, the ladies are the ones who object the most, especially my wife who has gotten used to the extremely comfortable Ikon rear seat. I am okay with the rear seat although it is nowhere as good as the Ikon's, but there's no chance of snoozing at the back!

You still have your Garmin 265W isn't it? The option is under Tools>Settings>Display>Screenshot> options: enabled/disabled. When enabled, the screens will have a small camera icon and pressing that will record the screen image. These images can then be copied onto your computer through Explorer.

Well, I'll tell you, my own oft-stated policy is that the max speed should be 120 kph on any Indian highway. However, this particular day was a hot, very hot, March day and the highway from Davanagere to Bangalore was deserted. Not even an animal to be seen anywhere, and strangely, hardly any traffic. So I took the opportunity and gave her a loose rein! Actually I would have been even quicker but for the fact that I was following a XYLO (with 7 people in it) and was interested the way it was moving, so I was behind him for quite a while at his speed. BTW, I was very impressed with the XYLO.

Yes, I do. In the screen shots you see above, the max speed on the GPS is about 10 kph less than what appeared on the speedo. I have noticed this always is so.

Cheers!

Hi HummerGuy,

Nice to know you're an 1.6S owner too! Wish you many happy miles and smiles!

How's Gilead's car? Before buying the S in 2010, I consulted Gilead and Anachronix, whose ownership threads were of great value.

Have you posted an ownership thread? If not maybe you can post a photo of your car here. We can all enjoy it too!

Heading to Goa this week for a wedding in our 1.6S, just my wife and I. We won't be doing very many more long drives in the 1.6S as petrol price is simply too high now.

I have booked a Scorpio Sle and that will be delivered this week. That will henceforth be our long distance vehicle.

Hope to see some pics of your car.

Have a safe trip to Goa and post your trip so may be will try to drive from chennai

Bumped across this thread looking for a sedan, what's the current status? Is she still with you?

Sadly, Damu passed away few years ago.

He sold the 'S' when he picked up a Scorpio. Unfortunately, my previous car , a Figo 1.2, was bought just a month after he bought his Fiesta and was less than 2 years old when he sold the Fiesta, or else I would have picked it up.

He used to stay in the same neighborhood and his son is a good friend.

Oh man...sad to hear. BTW I am the one who bought his 1.6S. I had never seen any one who had maintained his car such meticulously. I mean when he sold his car, he had every little detail recorded and passed on to me. Its been almost a decade now since I bought the car from him and it has never let me down. Even today, every time I drive it, it brings a smile on my face.

Few days back I decided to part ways with it and go for a new car. Test drove a few cars/crossovers but nothing was convincing. There are hardly any drivers car now. So I decided to give my car a make over and keep it for some more time. As of today this is how the car looks:
