Re: Old is Gold - Tale of Two Toyota Corollas - AT and MT

Another update on another 2006 Corolla at 96000kms.

The left front wheel bearing on a friend's 2006 Limited Edition H6 model was making a huge racket ; only the left one was replaced as the right front wheel bearing was noiseless.

The faulty bearing was Fu-Gen make and was replaced with an original FAG bearing.

Cost
Rs.1200 for the bearing
Rs.250 to fit it into the hub using a hydraulic puller Rs.700 for the technician's labour.

Re: Old is Gold - Tale of Two Toyota Corollas - AT and MT

Update on both the oldies for the benefit of Corolla owners

Both the cars are past 1,05,000kms.

The blue one(automatic) has gone past 15 years and its registration has been renewed.

It was a chance meeting with the old buggy after 6 years and the car, although not greatly kept, is keeping the owner happy. He claims the car returns 14.5-15kmpl on highways.

The car needed just oil changes, AC compressor refurbish, and one change of tyres. Plus I was told there was a link on the AT lever that came off and needed a refitment.

I inspected the car and found that

1.the steering boots were gone, but the rake was sans any leak

2.the engine rear mount needs replacement

3.Struts and shock absorbers are still intact

4.Minor corrosion has set in at the place where the roof meets the front windscreen

The paint finish is still intact; one round of polish and it will be ol' flame all over again.

Clutch replaced at 1,16,000kms after 13.5 years; OEM replacement clutch cover plus disc plus release bearing was 9k.

There were no scoring marks on the flywheel.

Posting images of the old cover plate and disc here.

Hey buddy! Congratulations on by passing the 1 Lakh Kilometers benchmark with your Corolla twins I too own a 2004 Corolla 1.8 E. Might I add that your cars are well kept too and the Metallic Blue shade of the AT is quite rare these days! I'm sure you will easily be able to clock some more lakhs with them both!
Keep Revvin!

Here's my 'Silver Streak' . It hasn't clocked even half the miles that your car has clocked though

^^ Nice looking car.

I liked the first facelift of end 2005 more because it featured a darker wood finish, which seemed more appealing; ABS was an added advantage in 2005 and later models.

Just to add, the AC on the white Corolla has NEVER been serviced till date(13.5 years). All that has been done is to periodically clean the cabin air filter periodically.

Now that's the Corolla for you Nothing major has been changed in my car either. We recently gave it a suspension overhaul, as the old shocks had worn out. I've changed the AC gas a couple of times. Apart from that, it is the way it has been since day 1!
