Maybe in a straight line 0-60 CLS might take the lead (I have my doubts) but if you want total driving experience (awesome around corners) then its BMW no doubt.

I would have gone for M6 in that price range. There are lot of options in that price range... but I guess it all boils down to individual likes and dislikes.
The CLS is aimed at the m5 since its a 4 door...i guess it can be compared to the m6 also because of its styling....about the BMW having a better driving experience, i have my doubts since my cousin has owned a 540i,m3 and an E60 545i....clearly he would be the best judge to that statement and still picked the AMG i guess its unfair to tag mercs as being worse of on the driving experience.
Well we will have to wait and watch.......will give u a first hand review when i get my hands on the car in august.

But since the person concerned is young a M5 or E63 will definately suit him better.

Well, everyone has their own tastes..and the only Mercs i fancy are the SLR and the SL55. And yes, i have seen the CLS up close.

Actually, i'd prefer the old BMW M5, not the bangled one.

My friend like I said earlier it all boils down to individual likes and dislikes. I am sure your cousin will be happy with AMG its one of the finest machines. I wouldnt compare CLS to M6 for its styling... i would compare the two cars for their performance.

And I never "tagged" merc as being worse of on the driving experience.... i just said when compared to BMW handling BMW is superior, this again is based on my personal first hand experience with both cars.

Also when comparing cars in that price range I think you have a lot more choice/options.

I'd go for the CLS.... it's much better looking, and does not have the super complicated i-drive system. Also, its ride is much better than the M5 - a point which counts if the car's going to be used as a daily driver.

Young guys need room for their friends.. the CLS is only a 4 seater and there isnt much room in the back anyway.. the M5 is great... the software glitch has been removed after the first gen cars and as far as the rough roads are concerned. I have driven my M6 38000 kms in India and trust me, it can take it.
MERCEDES was 9th from the bottom in 2004 J.D. Customer Satisfaction survery and that is when they announced the CORE PLAN. to get back to their over engineering standards and the only cars that show that in 2010 is the CL and the new E... but the CLS is still from before the core plan was initiated and the new one coming out will be phenomenal.
On the other hand.. Both the M5 and the CLS are at the tail end of their lives, they will be replaced withen the next 2-3 yrs so if your cousin wants a car that will be in style for atleast 4-5 years ( Average time for college or university in the U.S.) then I would suggest the new E63 AMG.. way better looking...than either the M5 or the CLS63 amg

Buddy you have brought up this thread from the dead,it's been 4 years! Since then the CLS63 AMG was bought used in Boston for a few years and then shipped to Dubai where it currently is being used.
