Re: Luxury SUV – 2015 Toyota Landcruiser vs Volvo XC90

I've been traveling in my cousin's 2013 V8 TLC in Dubai for the past few months and here are some of the inputs I can provide:

Pros

Reliability - Cousin has owned the car for 3 years now and he's never had to visit the service center other than for regular service which is every 5000 kms here. Car has run ~65000 kms.

Space - Acres of space. Fold the 3rd row and you could probably fit around 7 or 8 golf kits in there. Middle row is very spacious too.

Engine - The V8 motor pulls like a freight train.

Off roading - Haven't done any major off roading other than a bit on the desert. But I don't think anybody doubts its off roading capabilities here.

Massive size - Gets a lot of road respect even here where everybody has huge cars.

Cons

Interiors - Looks alright on a 10 Lakh car, but on a 1.5 crores car? No.

Features - Again just the regular run of the mill stuff available on cars in the 10-20 lakh price range. Lesser things that can go wrong, so good for reliability I guess.

Handling - Lot of body roll. Catches wind on highways and hence lot of wind noise.

You should either consider G63 AMG or the Land Cruiser. The Volvo XC90 is a size smaller than the Land Cruiser.
G63 AMG is not in shortlist since I don't trust reliability of Mercedes. Also it looks like Trax to 90% of the crowd.

How would be option of importing a GMC as it costs around 50000$ fully loaded in USA(including 180% duty it would land around 1crore on road)
Which variant compares closely or betters the Land cruiser.
What things i would have to keep in mind regarding warranty, ARAI certifications, A.S.S.
Any other Trouble free full size SUV import option which you can suggest.

Certain members have suggested the G63 AMG. But how practical a choice will it be given it runs on 97 octane petrol.

Luxury SUV – 2015 Toyota Landcruiser vs Volvo XC90

I found this video on YouTube.

However, i bought the GL 350 over the Landcruiser due to the exorbitant pricing.

My best friend asked me repeatedly to go in for the Toyota as it was more reliable however, my only defense argument was that in India, the price difference between the two is about 50 lacs and I am certainly not going to spend 50 lacs in 5 years on the Mercedes' maintenance.

If Toyota is reliable, then they are also asking us to pay for it as well.

However, among the two choices given by you, tge Toyota Landcruiser prevails.

O.T.: I completely agree with your opinion on the Audi Q7.

Cheers!

-Rishi

Thanks for the links , these looks good , Lexus looks far better then Toyota - have a look at comparison video , now only if these guys were to sell here at some reasonable markups like Germans ( and all the guys blame Germans that they sell at higher markups ! )

It really makes you wonder, if they sell the Landcruiser at such an exhorbitant price, can you imagine what they would do with the Lexus counterpart? I wonder how they would co-exist in the market if Lexus ever set up shop in our country.

I agree with your Logic of price difference. Can you elaborate ,how many kms have you travelled till date and experience with the car and build quality. Does anyone know experience with GL350 with long term usage of around a lakh kms.

Re: Luxury SUV – 2015 Toyota Landcruiser vs Volvo XC90

Well My car is still in initial days, done just about 5,000 kms in about 6 months.

Have no complaints except the ride quality which sometimes catches you out suddenly on rutted roads.

The car I had test drove had done about 22,000 kms and was rattling. Upon closer inspection, I found that the Aluminum glove box lock was broken in that and was rattling on poor roads.

I have had no problems or rattles, have just found the brakes to be too spongy for my liking.

It cost me approx. 1.60cr on road. Some accessories worth 40,000/- were offered as freebie since there is a 4 month waiting period.
