2008 Toyota Innova - Modded

Hey there!

I was away from India for a couple of years and my dad decided to buy an SUV. Inspite of my complaining that an Innova was an MPV, something that soccer moms would be driving around in, he went ahead and bought one! I resented that for a long time. But I moved back to India and started driving around, felt how comfy the ride is, and I slowly fell in love with all the things she does, without ever complaining. I’ve put close to 70,000 kms in a little more than two years, and she hasn’t troubled me even once. So I decided to give her a mid-life “wheel-job”

Wheels: Evo 15” Multi-spoke – Black
Tires: Yokohoma C-Drive 225/60 R15
Blacked out chrome bits: Side view mirrors, front bonnet chrome, rear spoiler, rear bumper and Toyota emblem (couldn't black out the door handles, no painter would give a guarantee)

I’m in half a mind to get a Pete’s box for it, but something tells me that it’s not very smart to get it chipped when she has 1,00,000 on the odo.

Heads-up:
- The style of the number plates keeps changing in the pictures
- Picture quality isn’t the best

Cheers!

Nice.
Somehow front grill is looking out of place,a mesh one would do a nice job

Re: 2008 Toyota Innova - Modded

As good as your modded Vento is, sorry, this one gets a thumbs down from me.

For one, I think it's silly to try & make a van like the Innova "sporty". Second, the black effect (especially on the radiator grill, fuel tank lid & rear number plate garnish) looks awful. Lastly, what on earth is that contraption you have fixed on the rear bumper??!!

A fine Innova is one that's stock with the right tyres. To me, that's a true, very purposeful Innova.

I second that. Your vento looked fabulous. The tire looks too small for the wheel well looking like a innova on high heels. Well then everybody to himself.

I would humbly beg to disagree here GTO. Just remember seeing a nicely done Innova in our t-bhp classified.Copied the pics below for reference.

Though I have to agree that Sledge has literally spoiled the looks of his Innova. The black colour combination looks a bit hideous.

Re: 2008 Toyota Innova - Modded

@ akshay4587: I know what you mean but I decided to do as minimum work as possible on the car, and I don't know if I'd be getting a mesh grill for it.

@GTO: LOL, I'm sorry this one didn't hit spot for you! I had to work with a gold Innova, and I've seen some pictures of a gold GTR with black effects, and I thought it looked amazing! Gold+black. Even gold-old amby's can be made to look sporty! (though I wouldn't do that personally)

@ 999, Alter_ego: The OD of the tire+wheel hasn't been changed, that is the natural stance of an Innova, and I quite like how hopped up it looks. The car flies over a lot small speed breakers, so I decided not to get 16" wheels on it.

Re: 2008 Toyota Innova - Modded

The blackened grille would look better if the Toyota monogram was untouched.

Completely agree with the others on the front grille part. Adding chrome highlights and restoring the Toyota monogram could improve the looks.

The rear, however, looks a little "untouched". Are bumper extensions possible for your version, considering they're OEM on the new version?

Innovas are best left stock. No matter how many racing stripes or mufflers added, the Innova is ultimately a people carrier.

Re: 2008 Toyota Innova - Modded

Wow, so much opinion!
@ DRIV3R: I tried what you suggested - leaving the chrome monogram untouched in the front. But I didn't like it, it was going against my intention to de-chrome all the chrome bits. Maybe I should get it hand-painted in Red and see how it looks? :/ I don't know!

@abiDas: what do you mean by 'bumper extensions'? Is it the same as the rear bumper guard? It's usually dull steel - looks like aluminum. I just painted it in matt black.

@ petroguzzler: I see what you mean, MPV's are never meant to look sporty, but I simply grew tired of how ordinary my wheels looked. Besides, I see no wrong in making do with what you have. I wanted to 'sporty' her up, that's all, and I like the way she looks now.

Nope. I meant the bigger bumpers that the new Innova has. The ones that reduce its ground clearance and make it look somewhat aggressive. Given that the chassis layout of the old and the new versions hasn't changed (AFAIK), you could have them installed in the fitting color.

Re: 2008 Toyota Innova - Modded

Sledge,

Remove the rear bumperguard & get a mesh grille. It will look better.

If i were you, would remove the rear spoiler & stickers and fix front, rear, side skirtings as well. OE skirtings cost a little short of 75K if i remember right.

my friend has an innova with all these done except mesh grille (he got an aftermarket grille) & looks good to me.

But if you like it don't touch it.

@cityvic: Is the black colour also after-market? I see the new Innova does not have black as a colour option at all.

Black was available from the factory till a few years back, it was discontinued in 2009 I think. I know 2 people who had Black Innovas.

As for customizing Innovas, well I feel it is not a vehicle for modding, other than alloys and a tyre upsize. (as GTO has already stated), but then each to his own I guess.

Cheers
