Is the Esteem's clutch compatible with the Baleno?

Modification Guru's,

Since my Baleno is almost 7 years old now have decided to shift from MASS. I have narrowed down to a good and reputed garage near my place.

The mechanic is claiming that the Esteem Clutch and pressure plates are a 100% match for the Baleno.

He claims he has fixed it to over 4-5 Baleno's where I live, any ideas is this will work.

I was hoping for a few reference/contact numbers of the other owners from my mechanic, however in the mean time wanted to bounce it off on the forum.!

Re: Esteem and Baleno Clutch

Not sure completely but should work. Maruti has been sharing its parts with most of their models.

Where you getting your work done from?
There is one mechanic at Bandra, who is a Maruti specialist as he had been working there.
See this http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/mumbai...st-mumbai.html

May be could be helpful for you. You can call him up and ask if it can be done or no.

Re: Esteem and Baleno Clutch

esteem's and baleno's clutch can be interchanged but its not recommended due to the power/ torque difference,
There is no need to go for this downgrade since there is no price difference between the two. Get the 4 spring one(its actually 8, there are two inside each)(baleno), not the six spring one(esteem). I recommended ceekay to valeo since i found valeo wearing off faster.

Re: Esteem and Baleno Clutch

Why go in for a mechanical component that is not correct and suited for your car? Always get parts that are meant for the particular car. I'm not sure what the price difference is, but I'm sure it's not much. So it shouldn't be a problem.

The 1.3 in the Esteem makes about 85 horses, while the G16B in the Baleno makes a little more. Around 90 or so? The Torque isn't too different either. But that shouldn't mean that you could go in for a component that isn't entirely suited and made for you car.

It isn't worth the risk, even if your car has notched up the miles.

Re: Esteem and Baleno Clutch

What's the saving you are aiming at (for another 7 years?) by the clutch?

@gigy,

Obviously, the 4 spring Ceekay clutch plate should be procured from a non MASS setup.

Any pointers as to where should one pickup these from.?

@kutlee, the MASS numbers are atleast 4K apart, however with ceekay plates that difference might be reduced, hence will stick to Baleno 4 springs setup as suggested by gigy.

I see the point you were trying to make, got me thinking as well. Not sure what I was trying to save 4K for.?

Cheers!

Re: Is the Esteem's clutch compatible with the Baleno?

I have seen MASS guys picking up ceekay clutches from prakash automobile, santacruz. It was about 2400 for clutch set only. don't remember bearing cost may be 400-600. another thing commonly swapped is the clutch cable with esteem, its slightly shorter in length and after installation makes clutch very hard, getting original cable for baleno may be problem, so retain the cable if its good and don't lubricate it with oil.

Clutch has been changed twice on my car at MASS. At 22k kms and at 75k odd. On both occasions I was charged around 4k. I was told they used the esteem clutch.

Presuming the first one was also an esteem clutch, I have had no issues with it for 55k+ kms.

@Thrust_in_thrust, would you know the recommended change interval for the Bearings.?, I know for sure the pressure plate needs to be changed along with the main clutch plates, However not sure about the bearings.

Re: Is the Esteem's clutch compatible with the Baleno?

It is easy when you open up the clutch remove the bearing and bring it close to your years and if you hear noise while it is rotated(by hand) go ahead and change it .

When you change it is better to change
1.) clutch
2.) Flywheel
3.) pressure plate
4.) clutch bearing
5.) Clutch Cable in case it is not hydraulic
6.) Gear shifter rubber bushings , incase of cable activated gearshifter the housing of shifter along with cables.
7.) Clutch pedal springs should be checked too

This sounds too much but every part here makes sure you enjoy shifts like when your car was new.

The SGP make is NTN if i remember correctly while it was installed in mine.
You can buy from outside also which cost 400-500 Inr but there is huge difference in finish of the SGP and what is sold outside.

I just had to re open this thread because I’m stuck with a situation.

I am in possession of a 4 spring Baleno clutch disc. But I’m not able to find the clutch cover for this.

I’m rather offered the OES Valeo Esteem’s clutch cover as attached in the picture.

Does this (a) mate together on account of compatibility and (b) cause slippage as I do not want high rev slips as I’m heading in the stage 1 tune upgrade.

Re: Is the Esteem's clutch compatible with the Baleno?

Just an update to the previous post by me,

The Baleno will accommodate the Esteem's Clutch kit.

But I was suggested the Swift 1.3L Clutch kit as a more available option.

I have installed an Exedy version of the Swift's clutch and works good. Will update on life span in the coming days.

I would like to know the present status and your experience on the Swift clutch kit on Baleno. My baleno is almost due for a clutch change.
