If you are worried only for the tranny shift linkage, you can convert to cable shift mechanism, but again it calls for lot of R&D. IMO it is worth re-engineering to cable shift mechanism than modifying the existing linkages.

This stuff is sure possible, but why use a M800 why not an esteem?

Doing that to the esteem plus some more mods can make it run very nice numbers in a drag.. all you need to take care is of the suspension setup and the structure of the car!
