I guess this is something which most Optra owners are still not able to find a solution to the headlights. If any one has please give me one.

Optra has 2 Fogs H-1 and 2 Low Beams - H - 1 and 2 High Beams H - 7 and two parking lights. Now the thing being the light in the City is just about adequate wheras on the highway it seems to be quite poor. So i did my reasearch and i was told that fogs cannot be updated more then the stock ones as the plastic will melt.

Now the problem being that i went to my chevrolet dealer and he told me that they do upgrade the headlamps to 100W with a bosch relay for Rs. 2000. But later he told me its not possible as the bulbs fuse as the wires melt due to the fact on high beam even the low beam glows due to which there is too much wattage for the relay to handle. The Crystal Visions come only in 55W so they will be of no use for high beams. Wheras HIDs are just out of reach at Rs. 18,000.

Please throw some real valuable suggestions. Anyone Rudra Sir, Help!

I think the 100W should be alright with proper relays. Many have done this mod. I guess dealer, as always playing safe.

But, Are you successful in sourcing Crystal vision H1 and H7. I failed in Bangalore.

Yeah Crystal Vision is availble here in h-1 as well as h-7. However Crystal Vision is not worth putting it in the higher beams as its 55w wheras the Crystal vision in low beam is helpful i guess but nothing better then higher wattage bulbs.

Can you please name a few people who have done 100W on a Optra so i can get in touch with them. The dealer told me that they used to put and they can put it on my car but due to at high beam the low beams are also on and thats makes the wires melt and the bulb fuse so it wont be safe. Throw some light.

I think the optra lights are H1 for high beam and H7 for low beam and not Low Beams - H - 1 and High Beams H - 7 .

No the Fogs and the low beam both are 55W and both are H-1s. Wheras the high beams are H-7

One of the BHPian had earlier posted the name and number of 'philips karnataka distributor' in JC road (bangalore). His number is 26707295. He had a lot of philps bulbs you can try your luck with him :) for H1 and H7.

Thanx venkatrx but as you see that i am located in Mumbai and i do have the number for the philips guy here and there are all soughts of bulbs available but the problem is refer post 1

Planning to install Philips rally range 80 W, H7 Bulbs on my Optra, in the process do i need to install the relay as well?

I have recently upgraded the bulbs of my optra to 100/80 watts, ie. 100w for hi beam and 80w for low beam, i have put in philips rally because i wanted similar light not blue or white, based on boomshiva's experience i too have not used an additional relay and everything seems ok and the light is improved drastically, now i have a very long throw and seems perfect for highways. I thought I'll add a relay if I blow a fuse or find any hint of overheating. I bought the bulbs for about 720 bucks here in bangalore from the authorised distributor for philips, he is located on JC road, his number is as mentioned by venkatrx, the guy's name is SK Mittal.

Are you sure guys that the high wattage bulbs wont affect battery, wire of the lights??

I've been using Rallyeye 85 watts (H7) and 100 watts (H1) with the stock wiring for 4 months now and no problems with wiring, battery or bulbs so far.

Only difference is the lighting is much better.

H7 - Low beam, H1 - High Beam or is it the other way.

You are right, it is H7 for lo beam and H1 for high beam

Btw, Busa, I don't think the Optra fogs are H1, the bulbs look completely different. I've been looking for an upgrade so suggestions are welcome.

My friend had put 100/90 on his Optra and the wiring melted?? Is 100/85 the right ones??
