I don't think its available for the a/t 520d, but is there for the manual. Unfortunately we only get the a/t in India.

Out of curiosity, doesn't the 520d have the exact same engine as in the 320d? So technically, if they do offer the performance power pack for the 320d, shouldn't it be available for the 5 as well, or am I overlooking something here?

The new exhaust looks Hott!
Your 3 really needs some nice photographs after the spoiler and front splitters.A video of the car revving after the BMW Performance Exhaust would be really great too.

Performance Enhancements for 320d (F30 -2013 model)

Hi

I'm looking for a performance enhancement kit for my 320d F30. As I understand from the local dealership, it was available for the E90 but no clarity on the F30

Does anyone know of any good tuning kits for the F30 that won't void the warranty ?

'Efficiency and dynamics are already prevalent in the standard variant of the four-cylinder diesel engines in BMW 120d, BMW 320d and BMW 320xd. The BMW Performance power kits add even more power and thrust. In the newest generation of BMW 320d* and BMW 520d** engines the precisely-calibrated software and hardware components in the tuning package increase the performance from 135 to 147 kW. This means an additional 40 Newton metres torque and faster acceleration of 0.3 and 0.5 s, respectively, from 0 to 100 km/h. In fifth gear, even as much as 0.8 and 1 s, respectively, from 80 to 120 km/h. And the maximum speed of the BMW 520d is boosted by 7 km/h. '

Thats from BMW website. Did you take with your local dealer?

Hi Akshay & Karan561

So BMW has come back to me. They're offering the performance enhancement kit for the F30 @ Rs. 1.18 lacs plus fitting labour charges. They're replacing all components that you mention in your review. Plus they're replacing all BMW badging with "//M". They're going to send me detailed pictures of this kit. Ill share them soon.

Have you timed the car from 0-100 ? Any concrete numbers on that?
Also any idea of the exact hp that the modified engine churns out? I've read various websites and forums claiming the BMW Kit for 320d churning out 205hp, 224hp and 240 hp. Not sure how different or similar these kits are to yours but I assume BMW offers only 1 kit for 320d in india.

I'm in a bit of a fix. Considering my car is brand new I feel maybe I should use the car for some time and then install this kit as a midlife makeover to break the monotony. But I really don't want to wait.

Your recommendations ?

You really should wait, Bluebeem. Since you already seem quite happy with your F30 right, doesn't it make sense to give it sometime to get bored and then install the kit? Especially considering your BSI will stay intact as well.

The BSI stays in tact as it is a kit from BMW. You are right. I am very very happy with the car right now. I love the way it drives, accelerates, handles. I'm still in the phase where everytime I put it in sports mode, it surprises me. No need to change that I guess.

I have thought a lot about this and here's what I've decided for now. It may sound shocking but I still haven't got the BSI. As my running is not more than 10k Kms per year, the SA told me it wouldn't make sense for me to pay 60k for BSI of 2 years (the cheapest package available). As my services would cost half of that. I was also advised that I can decide to take BSI anytime before the first service/12 months as the car is anyway covered completely under warranty till then.

But I have thought about this a lot and decided that I am going to get the BSI ultimate for 5 years. I need complete peace of mind above all. I've driven the car 3500 km in 2 months. So I reckon I will end up doing about 15-18k km each year and I always tend to drive the car to its limits on the highway and sometimes in the city too. The BMW Technician informed me that the service intervals (usually 18 months/15000km) tend to get shortened when people drive the cars in a "rash" way. Meaning high revs and high speeds most of the time. My onboard computer already says I need service at 12000km. So for now I'm going to spend another 2 lacs (approx) on the BSI. and go for a complete makeover maybe 1-2 years down the line.

The exhaust system alone is for 30k. I'm getting a tingling feeling In my pocket to install that for now . I wouldn't mind getting better sound from the car.

Sorry for the late reply, am travelling. 1.18l is a steal, I am sure you will end up paying far more totally. IMO this is better than aftermarket, since so many components are changed. No concrete numbers on this but it feels well above 205bhp to me, definitely far quicker than stock.

The exhaust is separately available for 30k. Fitting for the kit is Rs 4800

Total cost approx 1.55 lacs including tax

Then go for it. Though finish at least 5-6k Kms so you understand the engines stock characteristics well, and are easily able to spot the difference when the kit is installed. The exhaust looks good, but doesn't add much sound except on more than half throttle.

Yup ill do that. Will probably get it installed when I clock close to 10k km

Btw. Just spoke to the dealership. The BSI programs are getting updated mid June and there's a chance that they may remove the BSI ULTIMATE altogether. Best case scenario, they will remove the coverage of some parts from BSI ULTIMATE.

Shocking !

Re: BMW Performance Power Kit and Exhaust for the 320D

Blue beam, did you get the performance kit for your car?

I am thinking about it for my new car. Sometimes, the lag gets annoying. I read somewhere the kit reduces the lag and the car becomes more responsive. It will be good to have that kind of acceleration as soon as you hit the pedal. Any idea about this?

Any idea on the costs as well? Thanks.

No Buddy. Haven't gotten around to getting one yet.

The prices as quoted by the Dealership around 4 months back are :
1. The M Performance Kit including Air Cooler (Turbo), Engine Control unit & Badge cost (They replace the BMW badging in on the car with //M badges) - Rs. 1.18 lacs plus labor approx Rs. 4500/-

2. New Exhaust - Rs. 30,000/- plus labor.

Total Cost should be in the region of 1.6 lacs. Most dealers don't even know this kit exists so I've attached the pics of the parts from the BMW system for reference.

Many people have suggested the Racetech ECU , but i'm still not sure whether that can be detected by the BMW guys, because if they do, they'll definitely void the warranty and BSI.
