Even if not recording video, this cam can be still useful to those driving old left hand drive vehicles. They can see better when overtaking bigger vehicles.

Hi,
No offences to your idea but I think something smaller like a go-pro or dash cam would be a better idea, I hate any obstructions on my wind screen which acts like a blind spot, even if it’s a key-chain or other fancy stuff hanging on the internal rear view mirror I immediately remove it. And if a dash cam is seriously required for recording then something smaller with a big recording capacity which can run for a long period can be obtained under 10K below is one available on e-bay.

Very nice DIY idea!
I would love to give it a try, apart from blind spot and bulky camera with its holder acting as projectile in case of an accident, I think such an interesting thing would definitely distract some attention away from the road.
It would be lot easier and safer if we rip off the screen apart from the camera, put it on another holder and keep it out of the field of vision or at a place which is already a blind spot.

I am thinking of trying the same thing with my Sony HDD based cam. Can somebody recommend a dashboard mount (Not suction based)?

I got this camera mount from aliexpress as well and tried this with my nikon coolpix L10. Battery is 2x AA so i had to change them every 30 minutes or so. Then there is the storage factor L10 can take 4GB card so I was shooting in QVGA. Only used in 1 trip. Moved to using old Samsung Galaxy Note 1 from the next trip.

Now I am going to use it as a still camera only for taking occasional still shots.
