3M Lens Repair Film:

3M has introduced a very cool product know as a Lens Repair Film. These are adhesive backed films, which provide an air-tight and water-tight seal to repair cracked or broken lenses. These are available in red, amber and clear. It provides a temporarily solution to users who are left with small cracks / holes in their tail lamps and don't wish to spend too much to replace the entire assembly. After seeing a host of "limited edition" sticker jobs by manufacturers in the Indian market, 3M has launched a new collection of car wraps. While the company always offered solid colour wraps for cars, this new collection specifically focuses on the roof, bonnet and back. There are 25 varieties which include stripes, dual tone and prints, across 84 different kinds of finishes like matte, gloss, satin, brushed and carbon.

These wraps are dual layered cast films, and are digitally printed with a UV protective layer. This film is removable for up to 3 years. At a starting price of Rs. 4,500, these will be available across select 3M Car Care Centres in India and can be installed within 3 to 7 days.



As of today, 3M Care Centres are present in 18 cities across India - Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Cochin, Gurgaon, New Delhi, Nashik, Nagpur, Coimbatore, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Raipur and Kolhapur, Ludhiana, Salem and Mangalore.

So much better than using clear tape, or worse, insulation / packing tape across broken tail lights. However, Rs.4500 starting price is a bit too much to ask isn't it? Is that price for a large sheet of film, perhaps?

4,500 is for the patterned wrap that covers the whole car.

The lens repair film is per sq ft cost which needs to be found out at the store.

Also these lens repair films are not available everywhere. They are only stocked in a few stores.

Nice to see such products making their way into India, however Indian market is still nascent to them. It will be good to see how Indians accept these racing stripes and decals put on their vehicles. These are already popular abroad and make a humble looking car get killer looks! Even I have got racing stripes done on my Chevy Beat, and simply love how it looks.

This is a brilliant thing to have. I have a cracked RHS Tail lamp on my SX4. Though, i did not see any dust or water seeping in, but i would still want to try if this can hide the crack. I will see if i can visit them this weekend and check the availability

4500 is for the Body Wrap sheet but is just an estimate for one section for the smallest cars.

Agree this is expensive. They are about Rs. 290/sq feet.

Just Two lines of the earlier available solid wrap material itself was Rs. 4000+ for a small car Roof, Bonnet and Back (only Lines not the whole roof or bonnet). In Silver, White and Black Earlier.

These New Wraps would be about Rs.15000-20000 for the Roof, Bonnet and Boot section for a small to medium car.

The 3M outlets unlike other graphic design stores do not have machines to cut the pattern in house. So earlier it was hard to get the straight lines even with solid wraps as they would stretch during application suitable for wrapping a section but not for putting a specific design.

The new wraps would be preconfigured for each car. One selects the design from a catalogue and then orders. Hence 3-7 days to get the work done.

The other disadvantage is that they have nothing for the sides unlike Graphic prints outlets.

The Material used would be good though and removable without loosing the paint.

Thanks to a biker, got a crack in one of my tail lights.
Got the 3M lens repair film at the new 3M Center at Yelahanka.
Costs around Rs.1000 and the film size is 3.75 in X 7.75 in.
You have to buy the entire sheet. I'm now looking for someone with a cracked tail light to share the film (and cost!) with
I got the red one. They have these in amber and transparent too.

Does the job well. You can still find out that there's a crack. But water and air are kept out, which is important.
