Santro Suspension problems

Hi All,

I have a 8 month old Santro Xing and am not too happy with the suspension and ride quality, especially when loaded fully.

Can anyone let me know of special or custom shock absorbers which will improve the comfort levels.

Any advice would be appreciated as I am planning to go for a 5000 km trip very soon

Thanks

hi,
as far as i have heard ,nothing much can be done ,as msot of the small cars be it my zen or ur santro have a slightly bad ride in the rear.
dunno abt the suspension but ,maybe reducing the tire pressure 2pts.
in the zen changing from 70 to 80profile has improved ride but affected handling.
try reducing the tire presuure by maybe abt 2pts.
but then ur tire wud wear out faster .

Why dont you also ask an expert garage if after-market dampers (Shock absorbers) would help? Gas-charged? Oil filled?

ride comfort best option is go for gas shocks but then again santro oe is gas shocks if i remember correct.. after markert shocks basically are available for performance and will be stiffer so more harsh ride.. another option is go for a good tubless tyre, maintain tyre pressure less by 2 psi from the manufacturer recommended if not carrying heavy load, else better to go by manufacturer recomended PSI

Santro suspension issues

Hey Ashish,

Any updates? I have a Xing too and I am facing pretty much the same issues. While handling and pickup is good, the suspension is terrible, especially at the rear. I'd like to mod my shock abs, and perhaps stiffen the chassis a bit.... Would like to know if you've had any luck at improving your ride.

Cheers,
Lalvaz

I owned Santro Xing travelled around 10,000km before I sold it. I hated its suspension/ride. Thats how it is with Santro and other small cars but its worst in Santro.

WagonR and Old ZEN very nice with ride quality.

Santro is awasome small car except for ride quality.

My relative has Santro Xing when I travelled in his car even in rear seats ride quality in bad road is not bad. I feel ride quality depends on how patiently we drive in bad roads

Ravi.

Santro - Bouncy Drive

I have a Santro 2002 done around 105k kms, off late i have observed that the ride has become very bouncy and it increases by speed.

Initially i thought it was due to air pressure, when checked it was fine.I had changed the front shocks 6 months back.I have GIII 175/60 R13 77H on Prestige alloys and rear tyres are slightly bald on the outside.

1.Do i have to change the rear shocks ?
2.Should i get the alignment/balance done, got it done a month back.

Please advise

Have you changed the dampers (proper name for shocks) ever. They do not last much beyond 60-65k!. I would suggest the full set rear and front.

open to correction here

A simple test.
Rock the car using your weight.
As soon as you take your hands off the rocking should stop.

While rocking the movement should have been smooth.

Thanks for your response.

As is said I changed the front dampers 6 months back, Im pretty sure I havent crossed 60K on the odo after that.Do you suggest i change only the rear dampers or the whole set ?

bblost...I tried rocking it and did not find any quick jerks or bouncyness.

djjebs, the front dampers costed me less than 2k when i changed them not sure about the whole set though.

Hi Guys,

I am facing some issue with my Santro (2001 car completed 68 K on ODO). Off late, I have seen that when ever car goes through potholes / rough patches in the road, ride becames bouncy. Also the dash makes rattler/thudder when going over small potholes or uneven tarmac surfaces. The car is thudding horribly over the bumps at high speeds.
Does that mean suspesion of the car has gone kaput and needs to replace?

Also could you please help me with approximate cost for suspesion for first generation Santro in Mumbai? and also is there any specific brand to go for?

Thanks.

Just change the rear pair. No need to replace the front pair, unless they have leaked.
