Hi Guys,

I’m continuing this subject from the Honda Accord V/S Skoda Octavia RS thread;

Well I have booked my 1.8T Rider and waiting impatiently for her, I in the mean time called these guys at www.starperformance.com in Scotland and had a chat with them about modding the 1.8T engine, initially I just called them to ask the best price they could offer me on the 1.8T 150hp chip but eventually landed up chatting up for long and asking * asking them what are the other possibilities to get the maximum out of the engine(I’ll get to this in a moment), first I’ll explain the things I got to know about the chip.

They asked me what fuel I regularly use for the car and if I had performed any other mod’s to the car so accordingly they could map the chip for the best performance, so I told them the best we can do here is 93RON and that’s as good as it gets and no other mod would be performed, so then they quoted me a increase to 198HP from the current 150HP as they would map the chip a little more conservatively to make the car absolutely comfortably with 93RON fuel as they recommended using 95RON , and if I wanted to down the line tweak the maps I would just have to send them the Chip to be re-programmed and I’m set. *

Then I asked about the other things I could do to get more performance from the skoda, Quote”We have maxxed a skoda 1.8T 180HP at 289HP and a 1.8T 150HP at 268HP”!! *the mods that went into this were, a new turbo K04 with intake, exhaust, air filter, new intercooler, bigger injectors, dump valve.. COST 2,900Pounds!!

They told me about the differences between the 150HP and 180HP engines too, the 150HP has a KO3 Turbo whereas the 180HP has a KO3S (a lil bigger)Turbo and the injectors in this are also bigger.

I guess I would plan to order this sometime Early next year, till then I’ll be used to the 150HP, also if some other members who own the 1.8T and are interested in getting it chipped then we could have a group buy and save some more money.

Satyam.

Congrats!!! The board is turning green already. Its pretty pro-active stuff from your end to call star performance for mods.

We expect a Team-BHP review of your car. But I would not recommend going more than 200 (+- 10%) horsepower with a FWD.

Just wondering......how much more hp would they be able to get by re-programming the Palio 1.6 chip.
100 bhp is quite good for Indian roads but the Palio is so damn well built that i always feel like it could easily handle another 50-75 hp!

Hey sbfx,

I'm waiting for the day the 1.8 rider comes into the used car market! Already started saving up for it! BTW, have your tried out the seats in the RS...they are simply amazing. You may want to coinsider sourcing similar seats for your car when it comes, especialy if you are gonna be running 198hp!

For the Palio, I remember posting a link to a South American company that sells chips for the 1.6. Just can't seem to find it. However, do a google and you are sure to come up with a few names. The Palio was and still is extensively used in rallies in South America, so there are quite a few parts available for it. You just need to know some spanish I presume!

Hi,

Rtech:I totally agree the seats in the RS are awesome, infact I test-drove the RS and then decided on the Rider 1.8T, down the line Recaro bucket seats are in order for the car , I met rehan yesterday to see what kits for the car is he offering and found something interesting for the front bumper but I was apprehensive for the rear bumper so lets see if he can sort me out for something to my liking.

Navin: That’s great I hope we can have a few more people who want to get the mod as it would save us some more money and also I have sourced the manufacture and will be speaking to them soon.
A friend of mine is going to the UK soon and her dad’s a pilot so we would be able to get away with the customs too!!, she’s planning a trip in the month of November so let me know if you want to take the plunge sooner than later. The list price is about 525Pounds and I was offered to have it at 450Pounds.

Regards,
Satyam.

Autobahn. I have still to get the car out of the installer. see mods posts....so far we have only finalised on the HU and 4 chan. amp and speakers. Gotta thank GTO for that. I am still working on the DVD and sub. my installer did not tell me that the Necvox DVD will play via the FM mod. Now I am apphrehensive if it will live up to my expectations in SQ. Since we have already cut up one head rest and installed the screen I am stuck. If the Necvox does not live up I'd now have to install the Alpine DVD. That is expensive the Necvox goes for about 20K the Alpine 55K. OUCH!

BTW I need only one screen as if I have company in the rear I wont need to use the DVD.
