Where are you located in Kerala? I can speak to some people I know to help you out. Hopefully, they will be able to sort things out for you.

Re: The Maruti 800 Mod Thread

Hey guys, I was thinking of refurbishing the old maruti 800 which my grandpa bought some 26 years back. I don't want it to be sold off to anyone as I feel it's part of my grandpa's "legacy". She still runs pretty decently for an old bird but has the occasional coughs and whistles. The interiors are really beat up and look absolutely pathetic. I'm willing to spend a good 2 lakhs or more in refurbishing her, but I need some solid advice on where to start and what to expect. I don't want anything gaudy like spoilers and stuff. I would like a decent set of wheels, maybe an engine overhaul, new interior parts, a new paint- job, new lights, stereo and maybe central locking. I was also thinking if it's possible to put the new k10 engine into the 800. All your help would be much appreciated.

Re: The Maruti 800 Mod Thread

I have Maruti 800, 2010 model. I have fitted brake booster (KBX) and Stebel horn. Works well. Original ceat tyres crossed more than 42,000kms. Planning to fit alloys and 165/60/R12 tyres. Its a good car and never let me down till today.

Re: The Maruti 800 Mod Thread

Hi, Alok.
KBX Booster kits are available in major auto parts dealers. Earlier Maruti 800 ( 5 gears model) used to come with factory fitted booster kit. KBX is the direct replacement for Maruti 800. If you have Old model Maruti 800, vacuum connection should be taken from the inlet manifold by drilling a small hole and fitting with small hose nipple. If you own latest Maruthi 800, vacuum pipe of the booster brake should be connected as per the picture I have posted below. ( red hose pipe) I have used brass type gas nipple (3 way) which is freely available with domestic gas stove repairer. Please use good type of hose for vacuum outlet as well as good quality hose clips. Also drain old brake fluid and use good quality brake fluid (TVS Girling Dot 3), see that there is no air-bubble in brake lines, cylinders. A good mechanic will help you in this process. Please note that after fitting brake booster unless the engine is in on condition, you won't get the pedal power and while driving the down hill you should not off the engine.
Stebel is a high quality horn, should be fitted with horn relay. I really like it.

Some serious mods there BRS Rao by your friend, particularly the power steering & power brakes. Ask your friend to join TBHP so that many other petrol heads can be aided by his advice.

Thanks for sharing it all,
Saket

You can fit a brake booster to almost all the cars on earth from any era.

1) Fit the brake booster.
2) Fix a T joint to the intake manifold (provided with the KBX kit)
3) Connect the vacuum pipe to it.

The whole set-up should cost around 3K including all spares and the mechanic labour.

I have a Maruti 800 SS 1985 model. Can a brake booster be fitted in this car? Any garage in Bangalore where this can be carried out?
