Re: The Maruti 800 Mod Thread

My 2005 model new M800 AC BS3 is giving me trouble. The car is consuming coolant. No leakages as I never find any fluids under the car. Suspect a blown head gasket. But I have no over-heating issues at all. The car is running perfectly, almost as good as new.

Going for a compression test tomorrow. Can someone tell me what are the things to be kept in mind? Is it advisable to go for compression test? Somewhere on this forum I have read that the compression test may make matters worse. It may actually give birth to the problem where there was none.

The car was neglected for a while but there were no signs of engine trouble. Except a tappet change and leaking engine oil there were no other problems at all.

Any update on this? Did you finally pick up the unit. I understand you have sold your M800.

Just trying to understand if the old Zen( Jelly bean shape) Auto box will be a straight fit to '98 M800?
Also, got a quote of 20K for changing the entire AC kit with latest refrigerant from a MASS. Pls share your valuable inputs on the same.

Re: The Maruti 800 Mod Thread

I am planning to lower the suspension of an 800 like the one in the picture. Does anyone have any information how it can be achieved. I have heard that the springs are usually cut as there are no aftermarket options. Alternatively can the springs of any other vehicle be used to achieve this. Please note this mod is only for the looks. I am not trying to improve the handling or anything.

Am thinking it would be easier to put high profile tyres than doing suspension alterations. High profile = larger side wall height. Did you consider that at all?

There will almost certainly be scraping of tyres when the suspension compresses etc. I am assuming you still want to go ahead with all the problems associated with this...

Re: The Maruti 800 Mod Thread

@Pedro
You could try jacking the car, heating the spring with a flame and then lower the jack.have seen this done and will lower your car but am not sure how safe it would be.Please consider the risk,Alternatively how about trying it on scrap springs and if you get the desired results then you could do them.
But you need to load the springs after one ring of the spring is red hot.
I hope you have understood what i am trying to imply here.

Since the primary purpose of this mod is to enhance looks, your suggestion may not work. The idea is to put 13" wheels with lower profile tyres (as per the tyre upsize calculator). So with the overall diameter remaining the same the suspension will need to be lowered.

The pic is a bit extreme. I'm planning something in between stock and this.

I understood your point but how do you ensure all 4 springs get equally shortened by this process? Maybe we should meet and discuss.

Re: The Maruti 800 Mod Thread

Agreed on your point of springs being equal, maybe timing the flame on each flame for a fixed duration may help, keeping the car on flat surface to ensure equal load, or the other thing i can think of is using the clamps to compress the springs which they use for doing suspension overhauls, those can be tightened as required, so if we pre-mark then maybe we could use those.

Am just throwing across my ideas so that we could probably arrive at some solution through brain storming.

Re: The Maruti 800 Mod Thread

Installed brake booster in a friend's 4 Speed MPFI, 2008 Model.

We purchased Brake booster, brake pipes and vacuum hose from MGP, as the one which came with the KBX kit looked too flimsy(container part). Also the vacuum hose supplied in KBX kit apparently doesn't have the vacuum check valve.

Quote:
If you have Old model Maruti 800, vacuum connection should be taken from the inlet manifold by drilling a small hole and fitting with small hose nipple. If you own latest Maruthi 800, vacuum pipe of the booster brake should be connected as per the picture I have posted below. ( red hose pipe) I have used brass type gas nipple (3 way) which is freely available with domestic gas stove repairer.
We had two options of tapping the vacuum, first by using a 3 way joint,

Or by drilling the intake manifold where usually 5 Speed 800s get a nipple. [Pic courtesy: TAI, Varun's thread]

The Maruti 800 Mod Thread-img20151201wa0023.jpg

I wasn't a big fan of tapping using a 3 way joint, as my close friend and BHPian baby_antu has the same setup, and his brakes weren't as effective as say a 5S 800.

My SA found a soft area in the manifold, which was much easier to drill and tapped vacuum:

Happy to report that after flushing the entire system, the brakes were as good as mine. Mission successful, and looks as good as OEM.

Total time taken was around 3 hours, and the labour charge at MASS was Rs. 500. We procured the spares from our local MGP dealer.

Regards,
Shashi

Can you please share the whole cost of the installation & if possible with part numbers. The one part I could not understand is that your installer found a soft area to tap the vacuum line, isn't the pipe you connected from the drilled spot to the booster of a definite length. If so, how could you drill in any spot?

Sorry for such a delayed reply. Not sure how I missed it.

For your swap, you'll need these things at the minimum:

1. Brake Booster assembly, OEM for 5 Speed 800:

Part No: 51000M84351
Name: CYLINDER ASSY BRAKE MASTER
Price: Rs. 3752

2. Since it's not an OEM installation, we cannot use OEM brake hose pipe from 5S 800. I used Alto's brake hose for this purpose as it's much longer.

Part No: 51010M79G50
Name: HOSE COMP BRAKE VACUUM
Price: Rs. 128

You can use any hose pipe, as long as it has a vacuum check valve in between.

3. One metal pipe which goes towards the right wheel needs to be changed.

Part No: 51420M84350
Name: PIPE MA SEC TO FR BRAKE HOSERH(TM
Price: Rs. 33

You'll see we have changed other pipes too. Well they are entirely optional.

Regards,
Shashi

Re: The Maruti 800 Mod Thread

Just wanted to check if its possible to swap the rear suspension to the ones from DX with coil spring for a type 2 M800?

Rear axle, struts, springs and bushings are some of the needed parts. Any idea if the body needs to be tinkered with to accomodate this OEM setup from the DX variant?
