Lack of storage space in Innova dash -- possible to modify?

Hi.

The space management of the dash in my Innova isn't really to my liking. All it has is a glove-box, and no space to keep something casually. The top of the dash is just too flat. When I compare with my Wagon-R, I find the glove-box is almost as big, plus on passenger side there are two more troughs on the dash, a nice hook to hang plastic bags, and on driver side a small rack under the steering allows to keep small stuffs.

The Innova V model may have reasons not to have troughs on the dash because of Airbags, but lesser models should have a hollow under it, and I should be able to utilize that space.

Is there any way I can replace the top cover of my dash by a custom made one which will allow me to have more storage space? Or is that a crazy idea ... ?

Said it yourself. It would be crazy to modify just for additional space.

What you can do is:

1. Get one of those non-slip matts to hold your cell-phone etc. They are pretty small (maybe 6 x 6 inch in size).

2. The Innova has some trunk area! Keep a small plastic storage box in there, but with padding to make sure that theres no rattling etc.

One bloke in the ICE section shoved the CPU of a carputer in that hollow meant for the airbags in the higher models, if I remember correctly.

Heh, that place is really far from driver's seat.

me planning to get a really ugly cellphone holder and hang it off an a/c duct for the time being.

you know what.. cellphones fit perfectly in that cubbyhole in the doors armrest. at least my n73 does. and it dosent rattle.
