Ojes Automobiles at Kothamangalam has fitted a toilet inside Mahindra Bolero

The firm has fitted a vacuum toilet that is similar to the ones in aeroplanes by removing the third-row seat in a Mahindra Bolero. The seat has been removed and an imported vacuum toilet has been fitted there. Besides, similar to washrooms at homes, there are equipped with health faucets, and soap and sanitizer holders.

The toilet is similar to the ones used in caravans of actors like Mammootty, Mohanlal, Prithviraj and others. It has touchpad flush control and other cleaning systems. An imported unit of the toilet has a price tag of Rs 65,000, which does not include the price of other components and labour charges.

There are two tanks to store flush water and waste water. Since GRP-coated aluminium tanks are used for this, it is unlikely to get damaged or develop cracks. The 12V motor draws power from the vehicle.

Any vehicle that has a roof height of 40 inches from the floor can accommodate such a toilet. The toilet can also be easily removed.

Owner Biju says that Ojes Body Builders is the only company that has a licence to build caravans. The caravans for Malayalam actors like Mammootty, Mohanlal and Prithviraj, and Kannada stars like Kumaraswamy were built by Ojes, claims Biju.

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra praises the owner on twitter

An owner retrofits a toilet into his Bolero to avoid public washrooms

The cost of this portable toilet is around Rs. 65,000 and it comes with a touch based flush control system. It is uses a 12V system which draws its power from the car's battery.

The current coronavirus pandemic in India has seen travel take a back seat. Using public toilets also entails a high risk factor is also something to be strictly avoided. This is where the new Mahindra Bolero with a portable toilet comes to the aid of those wanting to travel over long distances but fear the use of public toilets.

Ojes Automobiles from Kerala have designed a special Mahindra Bolero with a portable toilet. The rear seats are removed to accommodate this toilet seat which is fitted sideways. This limits the vehicle’s passenger carrying capacity while boot space is completely done away with.

However, Ojes Automobiles has done the modification in such a way that it is possible for the owner to once again refit the seats as per demands.

This modified Mahindra Bolero with a portable toilet comes with a flush control system which is touch based. There is a 12V motor that draws its power from the vehicle battery to initiate the flush operation while it is fitted with two aluminum tanks, one for fresh water and one to carry away the waste water. The tanks are made of GRP coated aluminium so that it lasts for years. This portable toilet is similar to the vacuum toilet one sees on aircrafts. There is also storage space for soap, towels and hand sanitizers in the boot. The cost of this portable toilet is around Rs.65,000. The last row windows are covered with opaque curtains. Not entirely restricted to the Mahindra Bolero itself, this western style portable toilet, which has been specially imported for this purpose, can be fitted in any car that measures 40 inches from floor to roof.

All modifications are done without changing the structure and this sort of modifications is so unique that it has even received accolades from none other than Anand Mahindra of the Mahindra Group.

That is very cool. In the boot and for the boot

At 65000 it is very much affordable. I think a hard partition would have been better than just a curtain from a privacy perspective as well as air circulation perspective.

Nice addition to have for a tourer. But only a few vehicles in our market would have headroom suitable for such a modification.

This will be a boon to the staff, who spend major part of their work in the field like police, healthcare. Right now they request the nearby home owners to use the bathroom. This benefit the ladies.

On a different note altogether. Imagine if that toilet gets jammed or stuck for some odd reason and ends up overflowing when flushed. Imagine having to clean that up.

And honestly, that water jet is only making me think of many possible disasters that could occur when someone's on that throne trying to sanitize their bottom. Water droplets flying all over the place.

I am thinking the reasoning for having curtains would be that when not required to be used, the curtain can be drawn apart to enable greater visibility using the IRVM, when driving. A hard partition would possibly render that as a non-option. However, I do agree with the air circulation and related odours part.

Upside: Safer in Covid. The ladies will love it! They have a major issue with hygiene at highway restrooms.

Downside: Maintenance & odour.

Still, a heck of an innovation . Trust Indian jugaad to come up with something like this.

Makes me think of the business opportunity petrol pumps have. Convert an old Omni into a spick & span restroom (or get a porta-toilet) and charge 50 bucks per use. All the urban dwellers will 100% stop. Added bonus will be the bump up in income from the additional footfalls (fuel, supplies).

While this looks cool, I wonder about the durability over the long run. The poor state of the toilets in interstate busses come to mind; I just hope that was due to the larger population base using it. But unless the Bolero is to be ridden on smooth roads always, I fear this product might suit more who uses the car not on an extensive basis (as a lot of Boleros are).

Ingenious Idea to install it into SUV's. COVID did bring about unique solutions. I had the same 'random' toilet situations to address for my 4 yr old. I have been carrying around a Portable Toilet in the boot of my KIA Sorento all the time along with wet wipes, freshners, soap, Sanitizer. etc.
Didn't go as far as even thinking about installing a Wet Toilet though.

Description, device, installation etc., looks fine from inside. How about disposal of sewage? Shouldn't be a case of drive to a highway flush out on open roads.

Excellent innovation at the right time. This is the best way to utilize the cramped 3rd rows of Bolero which in anyway is not that usable. If the odor and wetness can be properly controlled, this will help.

I Think a Hard, clear partition (Toughened Glass or Acrylic Sheet) with a curtain will solve both the issues.

Great work By the way.

Re: Mahindra Bolero fitted with toilet so owners can avoid public washrooms

Nice Innovation. One question though, how will the driver use the IRVM. I guess the toilet would also necessitate a rear view camera with a continuous feed to the IRVM or Dash

Re: Mahindra Bolero fitted with toilet so owners can avoid public washrooms

So the jump seat has given way to a "dump" seat ?!!

Using this loo surely won't be a comfortable experience for anyone when the car is on the move - You don't want to be shoved about by the suspension while relieving yourself, and you don't want the odor or the sounds to distract the driver or other passengers. So I guess the car needs to be parked, and others sent for a walk, before you get down to business.

Great concept, but a hard partition with sound insulation and necessary ventilation would have been a better execution. They can always have a rear camera to substitute for the IRVM.

Re: Mahindra Bolero fitted with toilet so owners can avoid public washrooms

Thanks for the information.
The nice guy who invented it said at the end "please copy to make use of this convenience "

If there is a small element of intellectual property existing in his invention, he should get it in his name.

Please don't shame it as a "jugaad". Look at the perfection of the work.
