I read your posts telling mods on 1.6 are not recommended owing to reliability issues. So i was thinking that just removing the cat will add more power, in addition to that we may go for a muffler also. So no need to touch headers nor any extensive mods. |
Swathyd, the cat is on the headers itself so there is no escaping removal of headers. Take a look at this picture:
Headers + Cat
The cylindrical object that you see is the Catalytic converter. The small pipes with four holes on top are the headers :).

The same is not the case with 1.2 ...or is it? And I assume there is a difference in the placement of the catcon in pre nv and post nv 1.2s right.
Another query i had was about the CPU remap or a piggy back system. Are these things available for palio? Has anyone tried them?
if u want u can remove the cat of 1.6 palio.
all u need to do is to have a seamless thick pipe welded to a pentagonal plate. that plate can then be fitted to the header with the help of the plate.just dont forget to install an adopter to accept the lambda sensor!!!!:)

The 1.2 comes with a stock 4-2-1 setup from the factory. The Cat is placed after the headers. I will recheck this for you.
I doubt if anyone has done a remap to the Palio. Never seen a piggy back system either. There is not much demand for these mods for Fiat cars. They should be readily available for the VTEC, Baleno, etc.
I totally agree... You go asking for any mods for a palio and the answer you will recieve is "If you want to mod your car get a japanese make" ....saaad...I am not even sure now to go for a FFE or not... havent heard any nice reviews about it in a Palio

It is a muffler I think. But will confirm this tomorrow. There is muffler in the end (not in picture). This is present midway on the exhaust system on the Palio.
I want to know what will happen if they are removed ? more power or more noise ?
Can we go for camshaft replacement for 1.6, without reliability issues and loss in mileage

People replace that can with an expansion chamber. Dont think of removing it, your car will yell out of the exhaust.
Someone from N1 engineering recommended a Piper highlift cam for the Palio but no one has ever used it before. Cost was something like 17-18k.

Isnt it the auxillary muffler or the expansion chamber.

kiran
it will happen only for 1.6 or you are saying it generaly, coz i have removed the cat and you have driven it ,not that noisy sound and no pollution issue.

I agree. Removing the cat will not increase noise but add to pollution (not to an extreme extent though).
It is only after removal of the muffler that the car becomes noisy.
I would always settle for removing the Cat only and putting a straight pipe.

I couldnt help bring this up coz I am getting my a** whopped on two different threads after suggesting NGK iridiums. Now I am seriously doubting my thoughts..... Are iridium tipped spark plugs that overrated???
