Dechromed the bumpers of my VW Taigun

Dechromed the bumpers of my Taigun 1.0L TSI Topline MT

Sharing pics of the dechrome process. Got it done at Car cosmetics, Mysore - my friendly neighborhood car accessory shop. We came to an agreement that if the chrome trim is removable, viney wrap would be the better option, if not then spray painting would be the only option. I was not very comfortable getting the trim painted in a 2 months old car. But then we realised that the chrome panels were detachable, albeit it was quite difficult to remove considering the sheer number of locks and since it's made of very very thin plastic.

Very nice and looks sporty. This is how it should have come out from the factory, at lest GT models.

Thank you. It should have been an accesory at the least, obviously vinyl wrap won't be as good as an originally black trim. The mod costed Rs. 800, but took a good 3 hours to do it. The front end feels bigger with the chrome removed, but will take some time getting used to.

Re: Volkswagen Taigun Review

Not entirely sure about how it looks in real life,

But doesn't it just look like the rest of the plastics in black matte?

Gloss black would definitely be the sportier looking mod. IMO, a full matte black wrap on these trims makes the black bumper lack contrast and makes the car look like an Espresso which doesn't get a body colored bumper.

I agree with you that gloss black will definitely look better, but i was scared it would become a scratch magnet, hence opted for the matte black. I'm not against chrome detailing always, just that IMO the chrome detailing was too much, i felt it was a very thick chrome panel. In fact the person who did the wrap suggested blackening the diffuser too, but i like the grey/silver diffuser since it adds contrast, so i let that be the way it is.

Really looks dope, loved it!
Any plans for getting the roof wrapped black?

Thank you. No plans of wrapping the roof for now, it's already too hot at Mysore this summer, also we do many road trips and the wife is against black wraps for the roof due to the heat factor; so won't be wrapping the roof.

Thank you so much GTO. I never imagined one of my posts would make it to the home page. You've made my day. Thanks again.

Good Work and Thank You

Just couldn't stand looking at the chrome moustache of an otherwise elegant VW front. Never agreed with the generalisation of "Indians love Chrome" leading to a lot of overdone designs.

If I ever got around one, I would also mask/darken the tooth like protrusions on the grill and would resemble the understated VW design I admire. But it would also be in contrast to the rear.

Re: Dechromed the bumpers of my VW Taigun

I beg to differ than the general sentiment on the thread but the car now looks more like of the previous decades where basic models used to come with black bumpers and top model with colour bumpers.
May be looks better in real life.

Definitely a fan of the new look. Saw a white one a few weeks ago with the central Chrome strip between the lights blacked out. He/she had also blacked out the ridges on the lower Chrome strip. Was really admiring the look coz the chrome lines sync with the top and bottom lines of the headlights.

Looks pretty neat, please do post some more pics on the road.

Taigun's chrome is overdone in my opinion. That was one of the reasons we opted for Kushaq.

Re: Dechromed the bumpers of my VW Taigun

In the different iterations of Polo/Vento we got, we either had a sleek chrome strip or a body colour painted trim to maintain the contrast. Gloss black or black chrome can be the choice, however I doubt if they would be prominent enough. IMHO the front fascia now makes it feel like a base model. You can try a sleek chrome strip or a body coloured painted trim or wrap to maintain the contrast.

I think the whole look would be complete if the lower part of the bumper is body coloured (Picture below for reference)! If we see the international models of T-Roc and Tiguan, they have body coloured cladding instead of black cladding. That looks even better!
