Smoked headlamps

I wanted to know if there is any other reason behind going for smoked up head lamps besides the looks.
One more doubt which I have is that, there are some smoke sprays which people use to spray their head lamps and in which case they colour the transparent part or the glass as well where as the smoked housings which are available have some part of the reflector are and painted black. Dont you guys think that using a smoke spray really makes the car useless at night ( I havent seen a smoked up headlamps lit in dark so I dont know how much light do they let out).

Has anyone done a DIY by opening up the head lamp casing and painting the reflector?

check this http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/modifi...blackened.html thread for some help.

smoking the HLs and TLs only makes it look good IMO. i think one needs better / brighter HLs (if the Hls are smoked) for better visibilty at night.
