Please recheck. The old Elantra had a 2.0 petrol engine in the US, loosely based on certain famous Mitsu blocks. The Indian Elantra comes with a 1.8, unless I'm terribly mistaken.

I'd like to explore the limits of my stock car before touching the engine, when I buy a car.

With 150 deg. overlap you will be blowing huge fire***** out the throttle body & sucking in air through your freeflow exhaust.

I thought the Palio had zero overlap.

NOS and engine

What changes does one need to make to the engine to use NOS?
What other changes are involved?

Sorry if this sounds like a repeat question. I couldn't find a definitive answer on the forum when I searched.

Thanks.

No changes are required, just bolt a NOS cylinder and spray into the intake. Don't forget to use 2 buttons mounted on the steering wheel as that is the most important step. The buttons alone add 10 whp each. If you use steel braided lines, make sure that the fittings are blue in color as they lower the intake charge temps, help atomise the spray better and can increase horsepower by upto 30 nm and if you can procure cams with 360 degree overlap, you are set.

The changes needed to make the engine keep using NOS for more than a few seconds? That's a different matter altogether.

To above all just one question:-
is doing a engine swap legal in India?
Can it be officially be recognized by the RTO?

But if given a choice i would prefer dropping 4G63T into lancer and the rest mods like suspension and all.

You live the dream that most of us do / did. Engine swap per se is not legal unless endorsed on your RC (which is not the easiest thing to do)

Ya you could go that route, rather read Amey's ENLIGHTENING thread.

Honda D15/D16 single cam engine running a supercharger for throttle response at low revs and to get the revs high enough to around 5k RPM quickly, feeding the exhaust into a big turbocharger that's capable of around 600 whp, with my ITBs and a custom intake manifold to top it all up.

The block would be sleeved with Darton sleeves by one of the most capable guys for sleeving Honda blocks in the World, a one-man shop that runs Dan Benson racing.

Might just get it done one day

@pranavt

just one question will the nimble little OHC stay on its feet with 600whp??
baring in mind with custom suspension and body strengthening done.

isnt 600whp too much for the OHC?

Manageable, definitely. I should have a traction control system ready and on the car sometime during the next year. High speed stability is a function of the chassis design and the suspension; can't do much to the former but can definitely upgrade the latter.
