XUV300: Stumbled across a problem while upgrading to LED indicators

Hi BHPians!

I recently decided to switch the stock halogen indicators in my XUV300 W8(O) to an all LED setup. I ordered the necessary bulbs off of Amazon by looking at the bulb ratings given in the owner's manual of the car.

Then i stumbled across this problem where, on the drivers side front indicator, it only works on Halogen and the LED refuses to turn on.

Here is a video ive made to show my situation

Things ive already tried but failed:

-Using the same LED on the other side (works on the other side but not on Driver side)
-Interchange bulb sockets from both sides

I suspect a relay failure as i know the LED works and i know the bulb socket also works.

Please do let me know what I can do to fix this issue.

Thanks!
Keshav

By nature, LED lights are polarity-sensitive. Remove the bulb and Put the bulb in the other way around.

Is it possible that by design, the polarity of driver side and passenger side are opposite. In halogen it won't make any difference but in LED it will.

You can try that using a multimeter and if you can conmect the wires in reverse in the connector itself

Re: XUV300: Stumbled across a problem while upgrading to LED indicators

Does the LED bulb have a resistor load? (some models come with built in load) This is needed to make the bulb draw enough current similar to the halogens, otherwise the flasher unit detects as a blown bulb. But when that happens, the indicator on the opposite side blinks faster (to notify that the bulb is blown), which in your case is not happening.

You can remove the LED bulb from the socket, to keep it open circuit and try again If it is similar behavior, then could be something wrong with the flasher unit.

Hey there,

I cant seem to understand what you mean. If there is any video or something explaining this, please do link it. It would be very helpful

Yes it does! It was mentioned in the product page.

I've tried this, and yes. When the circuit is open on one side, only that side starts hyperflashing. But when its closed (ie. installed LED bulb) the mirror and back indicators blink normally but the front indicator doesn't turn on at all.

Thanks!
Keshav

I've done the same with my 300 last year, and it works perfectly on all sides. I'm not sure what could be the issue with yours - maybe that particular socket is loose or something to fit the LED since there's no branded LEDs available in the market at present and the generic ones sometimes are not good in quality.. If there's an issue with the relay, wont the halogen have issues too?

Hmm, but if the socket is loose, wont the halogen also not glow? This is a very peculiar issue.

Thanks!

What it means is that on the passenger side socket, the orientation of the +ve and ground wires is such that it matches the +ve and gnd of the LED terminals. On driver side socket, it is reverse. LED is not the issue here since the same LED bulb is working fine on the passenger side socket.

What you can do it, de-pin the connector of the indicator socket on the driver side and exchange their positions. Else, you will have to cut the indicator wires and solder them back in a cross manner

What bulbs are you using of Amazon, can you share the listing please? I too want to convert all lights to LEDs, brake lamps and turn indicators specifically.
