Re: Redtiger F7NP DashCam Review

Thanks for such detailed review Nilesh!

I am confused between 70MAI A510 and Redtiger F7N series cameras. I had a few questions and hoping your guidance will help me decide.

- Does Redtiger F7NT has sony starvis 2 sensor? I can't find the sensor model (IMX 4xx/6xx series) and confirmation if sensor is starvis 2.

- Redtiger has another model F7NT. That seems to be the same model with touchscreen capability. Couldn't find major difference between moth models on Amazon and on their website. Do you think it'll make to go for F7NP or for the touchscreen model (F7NT)

- How is the video quality when you run camera on 2k+60fps setting? i guess 2K is good enough resolution if there are no frame drops at 60fps.

Re: Redtiger F7NP DashCam Review

Hey, I have purchased the same dashcam. Can you suggest what kind of sd card works with this. I want to buy 256 GB but what specification should we use.

Should I buy the high endurance ones?

Please ensure to buy Class 10, U3 sd card to ensure optimum read/write speed. Link below

It has Sony Starvis, but not 2.

Apart from obvious touch screen - F7NT has external IP rated water proof camera for rear while F7NP has an internal mountable rear camera that’s not water proof. SD card for NT comes with 64gb capacity while NP comes with 32gb.

Yes 2k is good enough for daily use both in day and night, it meets the purpose perfectly. Note that while the company advertises this is a 4K this is not a true 4K, this is primarily 2k but upscaled to 4K.

Re: Redtiger F7NP DashCam Review

Great writeup Nilesh, loved the details.

Couple of questions
1. If your dashcam is drawing power from the 12v charger, do you need to unplug it every time you switch off the car? Does it continue drawing power even when the car is off?
2. I noticed some old post on bimmerpost that says there is a 12v outlet below the glovebox. Did you try to power it from there (better concealed look)?

12v chargers typically get cut off the power after engine is shut down, mine loses power 10 mins after I switch off the engine. Hence there's no need to unplug.

My car doesn't have an outlet below the glove box, but if there is, it definitely is a better solution to power the dashcam. The less distance wires have to run, the better it is.

Re: Redtiger F7NP DashCam Review

I am using Redtiger Dashcam F7NP for more than a year. So far no issues, I purchased it in US through Amazon.
1. If possible go for Samsung Pro Endurance 256gb micro sd card, it is the best suited for dash cam. But costly ~7k(Amazon), 4500/-(tanotis.com) whereas in US it is 23$
2. You may download redtiger player for windows and play the files, the player displays route mapped on google map.

Very detailed and crisp review. Even I m considering F7N or F17. However concerned with washout effect under direct headlight throw. Is above image with CPL filter? If that's the case, the image clarity is excellent as per me. I have checked F17 of a friend's car (without CPL filter), license plates are a total washout in that case.

Don't want to spend 25K + on Vipfo since that's bit too expensive for my use case.

Thank you. Yea, all images are with CPL filter and they are perfectly acceptable.

Great review, Nilesh! You have covered all aspects extremely well.

Looking at the cable routing, looks like you have taken both cables to towards the left, isn't it? Hope you didn't take it along the gap between the airbag and headliner. Unless you opened it and routed it behind the airbag.

I am also planning to get the Redtiger F77 or the A4 model. But my worry is on cable routing through the headliner on the 330Li. There no gap between the windshield and the headliner. It is airtight. How did you manage to push the cable through? Looks like yours is an X series. It was easy on my F30 but not on the G28.

The A4 dashcam allows mounting on the dashboard, but the quality may not be that great. F77 is top of the line which is what I am keen on and the location on the windshield will be like yours, but need figure out this routing bit.

Could you please share the routing using a coloured line?

Thanks!

Re: Redtiger F7NP DashCam Review

Fantastic review Nilesh! Loved the detailed review.
I've been looking for a 4K Dashcam for a week now and I have finally decided on Redtiger F7NP.
I checked with them directly and they are offering it at the same price as Amazon but they are giving out hardware kit for free as a limited time offer

Now my question is, if we hardwire the Dashcam does it void the warranty of the car?

It might depending on the company. Do check with your authorised service centre. An alternative could be to use OBD port which does not interfere with physical wires however even that is not allowed by few manufacturers. But if they do, ask Redtiger to give you OBD2 adapter.

Re: Redtiger F7NP DashCam Review

Great details Nilesh. I am planning to go for the touch version. I have reached out to the vendor directly and he is giving a good offer as well. The difference between the two mentioned by the vendor is:
1. Touchscreen
2. 5.8 Ghz wifi
3. Voice control.

Can you answer couple of questions?
1. How is it holding up till now? Any observations?
2. How long are the recordings before being overwritten, for a 128 GB card? Can we use any other card other than the one you had mentioned?
3. Is there a cpl filter for the rear camera too? The vendor mentioned it only for the front.

Thank you in advance.

Answering to the extent I know:

1. It is working well - I have not had any issue whatsoever. After initial few days of experimentation, you would pretty much forget it is even there. You don’t need to view the recordings often unless there is any event, which hopefully never happens.
2. It would depend on the resolution selected. In my view it should last ~10 hours of recording with 4K and ~15 hours with 1080P. That is sufficiently long I guess. So even if you are going on a long drive, after you reach your destination, you don’t really require the previous day’s recording unless there is an event and even if there is an event, that specific video will get locked preventing it from being overwritten. In case you need to store videos for longer duration to create a travelogue, you can always carry multiple memory cards, let’s say, one for each day of drive.
3. Cpl filter is only available for front.

It is a good idea to directly buy from Vendor.

Good luck with your dashcam.

Re: Redtiger F7NP DashCam Review

Team, what is the shortcut button to save emergency videos so that it is not overwritten?
In my earlier Transcend DP200, there was a red button which couldn't be missed.
During my last week's trip to Golden Temple Vellore, I came across a Thar whose number plate was in black and instead of registration number, it was written "Mr. Subhash Charles". I wanted to post it in the appropriate thread, but sadly that video got overwritten.
